Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?

Most people would ask, idk, their wife to help. Not have a valet to do it alongside ironing his shoelaces.

ancientgran · 20/04/2022 14:38

My husband was working away, he took a few days off but couldn't take any more. My niece used to come round to help me, if I'd had a fulltime maid to assist it would have made life easier.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 20/04/2022 14:45

Shame you were not born royal, the taxpayer would have given you several.

Didn't see much self promotion by Harry and Meghan - like it or not, it's 'his event' and he promotes it and it has a value internationally. (Though whatever they say will be interpreted at 'having a go').

Harry can do Invictus with or without monarchy.
William and Kate have no value outside monarchy.
Monarchy has no real value at all - impressive things can and are being done by more people who are not royal, than has ever been done by 'royal family' members.

You think the Invictus Games would get as much publicity if Harry wasn't royal?

@PlasticineMeg

Of course it’s self promotion, they’re there with a Netflix crew
W & K have often had camera crews with them. But it's OK for them to do this.

Why self-promotion? - why not promotion for the games themselves?

Why always interpret everything H & M do in a negative way?

They have the press following them. Not a film crew so they can earn money from the film/book/tv programme

Not quite the same

Blossomtoes · 20/04/2022 15:44

How much value would Harry have outside monarchy?

Nanny0gg · 20/04/2022 15:47

emuloc · 19/04/2022 13:37

Well, if you call that work. They do have to give a little, I guess.

Seriously, how strenuous a job was 'Suits' do you think?

Hardly like stacking shelves or working in a factory

Nanny0gg · 20/04/2022 15:48

emuloc · 19/04/2022 13:43

Quite. The point I am making is that Meghan did work, and could have paid for her clothes out of her own pocket. Not the taxpayers.

So why did Charles have to fund them? Harry's sitting on a sizeable inheritance too. No idea what he did with his army pay

The sheer irony of wanting to be awarded a gong from the royals - none of them have put their life into something significant enough to win a similar award themselves! All their awards are 'honours' given as 'gifts'.

'The Firm' - In reality, some of these Royals would have been dismissed from their jobs in a normal 'Firm' if they had one - Princess Margaret, Prince Philip and Andrew to name three. While Sophie, Andrew, Fergie tried to exploit their Royal status to get money corruptly!

Why include Philip in that list?

He had a distinguished wartime naval career and you can't dismiss the DoE adward either

I think jobs like that are actually quite full on, lots of early starts, learning lines, standing around in uncomfortable clothes and having to do retakes etc etc. Nobody is saying it's the equivalent of going down the mines but it's lefitinately quite hard work I believe. Then again I've never been on a TV set in my life!

Aspiringmatriarch · 20/04/2022 15:53

Legitimately!

Maybe some reading comprehension practice needed there, LetitiaLeghorn?

I didn't write that Charles was a paedophile but a paedophile enabler and the proof of that is out there and staring us in the face, not least in the IICSA report

I bet anything you like that the minute Charles is king we will see nothing more of Andrew

Someone else did develop the DofE scheme before he put his name to it.

Who?

Blossomtoes · 20/04/2022 16:02

No idea what he did with his army pay

It was beer money to him. I imagine he could spend a years Army captain’s salary in an afternoon.

It was reported at the time. Both Princes had to draw their military salary (fried too many admin systems if they did not) but both donated it to military charities

Nothing to do with this thread but this new Mumsnet look and feel is shit! Please make it go away. 😱👻😈💯

Like others said, these two two chancers are using the games to get more oxygen of publicity. They know that they have absolutely 0 to offer and credibility that is shattered to pieces due to the drama. So they will do anything to get in the news.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/04/2022 20:09

You could be right, NannyOgg, but if that's the choice it may well present a hell of a risk if a thoroughly peeved Andrew was to "do an Oprah"

Are you sure PH donated his army salary to charity?

I've never heard anything to suggest that they did not live up to their word on that one.

And it was all over the tabloids back then, so I don't see why they'd risk reneging on it.

Blossomtoes · 20/04/2022 21:29

Apparently it’s common for very wealthy officers to supply payroll with the Army Benevolent Fund’s bank details.

A quick google I can see a lot of mention of PW donating his Air Ambulance salary but not PH his salary. Nothing wrong with him keeping his salary of course but I’m not getting anything that suggests he donated it.
