Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?

And Meghan actually worked, remember!

@Mischance W&K don’t hire a TV crew to get personal financial gain. You’re referring to press access which is pivotal to how the RF operates.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 13:32

They also don’t allow the press unfettered access, they film what the public can see with their own eyes and no more (barring specials such as Diana’s 20 year anniversary of her death, the Queen’s jubilee etc)

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 13:33

@TheKeatingFive

Charles would be fine as well

Jesus, why? The man can't brush his own teeth without help, why would you want an award from him? 😂

Are you referring when we had a broken arm so ONCE asked his valet to put the toothpaste on his brush?
TheKeatingFive · 19/04/2022 13:35

Are you going to argue that normal functioning adults require a valet?

No, they just live in luxury, at the taxpayers expense. Nice gig if you can get it, I suppose.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 13:36

@emuloc

So did Kate, William, Harry, Sophie and Edward. William and Harry providing an amazing public service to GB. Eugenie and Beatrice also work.
emuloc · 19/04/2022 13:37

Well, if you call that work. They do have to give a little, I guess.

No, but some people have them and personally I can’t get too worked up or angry about it.

IMO, as far as the RF go, they don’t fuck up too much to get me even remotely angry. I save my ire for elected heads who are criminals and actually making the rich/poor gap wider on purpose. Not those who found themselves by virtue of birth thrust into the spotlight and work to make the odd person’s day a little bit brighter. In an ideal world I’m sure they’d all abdicate but turkeys don’t vote for Christmas do they - and it would make no difference to their privacy levels. If anything if they became private citizens and moved into a 4 bed in Surrey they would never, ever be left alone.

Yes I do call a rescue helicopter pilot and an infantry soldier jobs. Don’t you?
MsSquiz · 19/04/2022 13:40

@emuloc I have no problem with what anyone wears, but I didn't start a thread on mumsnet complaining about the "female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service."

Other than seeing 1 photo of Catherine in a blue dress and 1 of Meghan in the white dress, I have no idea what any of the Royals wore over the weekend.

emuloc · 19/04/2022 13:43

Quite. The point I am making is that Meghan did work, and could have paid for her clothes out of her own pocket. Not the taxpayers.

ancientgran · 19/04/2022 13:48

So did Kate, William, Harry, Sophie and Edward. William and Harry providing an amazing public service to GB. Eugenie and Beatrice also work. So did the Queen (ATS service) Prince Philip (naval officer) Prince Charles (Naval officer) Prince Andrew (helicopter pilot not sure if the was RN) I don't think I remember Princess Anne or Princess Margaret doing paid employment but I assume Princess Anne worked with horses but was that her family business? Not sure.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 13:48

She could have but I don’t think she did.

They all have private earnings they could dip into, and I imagine they don’t when it comes to working wardrobes as they’ll see that as an expense. There’s no getting away from the fact that they are never gonna be frugal because
A. They don’t have to be
B. That’s not how they’ve ever lived I doubt it would even occur to them

We have of have to square it with ourselves I guess

1forAll74 · 19/04/2022 13:49

Meghan was just a smiling side kick for Harry at the games. i don't think she would be remotely interested in the Invictus games, she prefers to be more centre stage at fancier do's.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 13:49

@ancientgran yes good point, I don’t recall Margaret ever working but I’m sure Princess Anne did something at one point

ancientgran · 19/04/2022 13:50

No, they just live in luxury, at the taxpayers expense. Nice gig if you can get it, I suppose. I think I'd rather work down the mines than have to have dinner with Donald Trump or have the Blairs stay for the weekend (and conceive their youngest son and tell everyone about it.)

Sitting through the Royal Command Performance every year when I'd rather be at home with Netflix also springs to mind.

Royal spouses are always smiling sidekicks. That’s basically their job once they get hitched. Kate is a smiling sidekick, Philip was too. And I bet they’d all rather be anywhere else than these events, but it’s part of the ‘job’ even when they’ve left the ‘job’

Do you normally refer to someone's wife, as a sidekick? How odd. You have no idea how she feels about the Invictus games.

I think Princess Anne can be frugal, not in everything but I'm sure I've seen things in the papers about her wearing an outfit to some big event that she wore 20 years ago. Maybe she was just showing off that she hasn't put weight on Grin
StoneofDestiny · 19/04/2022 13:52

Re work

Wasn't it the Queen who took issue with Kate not working while dating William and reprimanding Beatrice and Eugenie for taking more holidays than actually working? And that was according to the Royalist Press and the Royal commentators who often are encouraged to leak stuff to prove the 'firm' is 'on message' re public concern.
I think it has been shown over and over that Anne does more 'royal visits' than any of the higher profile royals with round the clock security and more share of the public purse..

@emuloc I have no problem with what anyone wears, but I didn't start a thread on mumsnet complaining about the "female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service"

And that is your level of comprehension in reading the OP? Wow.

Two Royal Princes - one using his status to promote an internationally acclaimed event of significant worth and value - one more often seen doing very little except parading around in 'royal appearances' that could just as easily be carried out privately (and much cheaper if they were).

OP posts:
StoneofDestiny · 19/04/2022 14:07

The sheer irony of wanting to be awarded a gong from the royals - none of them have put their life into something significant enough to win a similar award themselves! All their awards are 'honours' given as 'gifts'.

'The Firm' - In reality, some of these Royals would have been dismissed from their jobs in a normal 'Firm' if they had one - Princess Margaret, Prince Philip and Andrew to name three. While Sophie, Andrew, Fergie tried to exploit their Royal status to get money corruptly!

MsSquiz · 19/04/2022 14:08

@StoneofDestiny is a dig a comprehension the best you can do?

Funnily enough, the comment on the clothes was the one I took issue with as it's a pathetic dig at the Royal females, without looking at the bigger (and more equal than you would like to think) picture.

You have taken umbrage at the difference between William and Harry while at 2 very different events.
William attended a church service with his family, Harry was attending the Invictus games. There have been times where those roles have been reversed, many times over the years!
We all know the interest in Harry (and Meghan) would be no where near the level it is at without media and the public enjoying pitching the brothers (and their wives) against each other! I find it really quite disgusting that people take such pleasure in encouraging that behaviour too

wordler · 19/04/2022 14:23

@Theunamedcat

Tbf beige does suit her
I think she does too much white, beige, and cream. She looks great in colors - I thought the Invictus outfits were a bit 'meh' really. She looked so much better styled before she married Harry - it's odd.
