Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?

It’s just odd you seem to be targeting 2 people making their way to church in particular, but are also fawning over 2 people who still benefit from the very same institution

targetting?
fawning over?

Get a grip.
I was perfectly clear I want the monarchy abolished and have every right to express my opinion on people my taxes support.
Disagree with me by all means, but please don't manufacture emotions I have not expressed.

I pay a TV license for 'entertainment', I don't like keeping a family and their cousins, aunts, uncles etc in unbelievable splendour for the entertainment of others.
Right now we have a Monarch, a trainee monarch aged 73, and another trainee monarch aged 39. Utter joke.

I've been appalled at the coverage of H & M. She's worn thousands of $s worth of jewellery and outfits, and I've not read one article in the UK press about the actual competitors whom surely the focus should be on. As for being followed by a Netflix crew, shame on them. They hijacked the Canada games with their 1st appearance, then the Sydney one too with her pregnancy announcement.

W & K have also been somewhat of a disappointment in terms of their work ethic, and they both seem to bristle with disdain at their roles at time but in their defence they both know the path they have to treat, and do so in complete deference to HM.

I'm so sick of the H & M PR spin. And on every thread you get the "Andrew is worse" reply and then comes the "you're a racist".

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 19:55

I could spend all day telling you the benefits of the DofE scheme to young people

Thank you, I am fully aware of many schemes supporting people. The D of E scheme is run by volunteers, not by the deceased Duke.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 18/04/2022 19:58

H&M have no value without Harry’s royalty

D of E
Prince’s Trust
Earth Shot
Kate’s early years stuff.

ghislaine · 18/04/2022 20:01

For some people, Easter is a time with a serious point, a real purpose and a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice.

Perhaps media coverage of people attending church services to celebrate the triumph of life over death might be meaningful to some in these times of disease and warfare.

Badger1970 · 18/04/2022 20:02

The Princess Royals' carers trust and her work for Save The Children

The Princes Trust and The Princes Foundation

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 20:09

Christ can’t win with you OP!

The D of E was heavily involved in the scheme - massive LOL at criticising him for not doing so anymore because he’s dead 😂 he can hardly help that!! It goes on thanks to his legacy

ssd · 18/04/2022 20:09

Of course YABU

The Royal family are perpetuating the English class system .
That's enough reason to get rid.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 18/04/2022 20:10

I did my research on royal charity patronage and i don't think plasticinemeg will like it because it turns out to be largely pintless: giving-evidence.com/2020/07/16/royal-findings/

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 20:13

@AuxArmesCitoyens I work in the charity sector and can assure you patronages very much have their place.

You may want to have a think about why that particular company wants to pose a question like that too

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 18/04/2022 20:16

@badger1970 why not direct your anger at the daily mail then- they are the ones who print all these shitty articles, not Harry and Meghan.

Harry and Meghan are just there to take part in the invictus games that Harry set up.

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 20:17

Nice to see Meghan taking time our her busy schedule to post a thread on MN

Thanks Kate - nicest thing you've ever said to me.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 18/04/2022 20:20

Any particular aspect of their apparently very thorough analysis you take issue with? Is it fair they don't visit many of them once in ten years? Is it fair they are over-concentrated in some charity sectors snd geographical areas? Is it fair politically sensitive causes like refugee rights don't get a sniff of their largesse?

Wnkingawalrus · 18/04/2022 20:25

@StoneofDestiny

Didn't see much self promotion by Harry and Meghan - like it or not, it's 'his event' and he promotes it and it has a value internationally. (Though whatever they say will be interpreted at 'having a go').

Harry can do Invictus with or without monarchy.
William and Kate have no value outside monarchy.
Monarchy has no real value at all - impressive things can and are being done by more people who are not royal, than has ever been done by 'royal family' members.

I’m sorry but I disagree with this. Harry’s value to the games is purely because of his royal background. That’s exactly why he gets so much support for the games and exactly why Megan introduced him with his title.

And as others have said, Kate didn’t even wear a new outfit. My kids wore new outfits to go out for lunch today. They’re kids. They grow quickly which means they’re often wearing new clothes.

Badger1970 · 18/04/2022 20:44

It will be interesting to see how Harry moves forward with this.

The constant use of HRH and Duke/Duchess is a bit galling when they made it clear that they didn't want to be part of the BRF anymore.

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 21:13

I've already addressed this up thread. Harry has used his royal status to good effect - why can't the others? Kates royal title has been used for nothing more than a dress parade since she married! William hasn't done much in his 39 years with his. Look at what Andrew did with his! Their latest tour was a complete disaster - despite ' the best advisers money can buy'. Their university level of education couldn't even suss out the obvious pot holes in what they were doing parading around like colonial rulers!

OP posts:
RonaldMcDonald · 18/04/2022 21:17

I’d imagine the Games will be removed from Harry within a year or two.

I think we could have a lovely new monarchy that makes a difference but they’ll need to address colonialism and internal racism prior to that ever being able to be achieved.
I doubt they’ll make that journey.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/04/2022 21:28

I’d imagine the Games will be removed from Harry within a year or two.

What do you mean? Who would/could remove it from him?

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 21:31

Why was the last tour a disaster?

And people have posted plenty of good things K&W have done but you’re ignoring those posts for some reason.

Also your comments about her clothes reek of sexism. HTH

RonaldMcDonald · 18/04/2022 21:31

I believe ( I am aware I may sound bonkers) pressure will be placed on Invictus, via the Military, on the behest of the Royal Family, to have the games led in future by a Royal.
After all they were injured in service to the Crown.

They will then tell Harry and that will be it.

SFHJ · 18/04/2022 21:37

Catherine reward a dress to the service, and her wardrobe cost of her last tour significantly less than what Meghan has spent during the games. Depends what news you look at depends on the narrative.
Saw one site where it was slated what Charlotte wore she’s a child, whatever they do they can’t win.
Must say I cannot stand Meghan and harry since opera interview, imagine doing something like that to your family when you know one of them is at deaths door.

RonaldMcDonald · 18/04/2022 21:37

The last Royal at our was an unmitigated disaster.
I’m unsure anyone truly can say otherwise.

It looked like a colonial rehash and felt tone deaf and at best somewhat racist throughout.
Why they did not highlight the brilliance of innovation, engineering, stem, education, business, sport, tourism of the region I’ll never know.
The uncomfortable white people dancing was too much. As was the cos play Land Rover troop inspection and drive by
Kate’s clothing bill was astronomical but this is to be expected from old school British Royal Family Tours. They could have highlighted designs from the region.
Compare their Tour with The Princess Royal’s and it was utterly different.
It was a terribly received Tour.

LoveSpringDaffs · 18/04/2022 21:45

@StoneofDestiny

You are full of 💩

You clearly don't bother yourself to know what the members of the RF do, or how the monarchy raises a LOT of money for charities & the Economy.

If we 'did away' with the RF as you would like, we'd need to replace them with other people to do their jobs who would NOT bring in the tourism money they do. The RF are a net gain, any skternstive would be a huge net loss.

Mischance · 18/04/2022 21:48

@DorothyZbornakIsAQueen

It's sad that he and the Mrs are using these injured veterens to promote themselves

Oh come off it. I cannot bear the institution of the royal family and would like it to be abolished, but accusing Harry and Meghan of 'using injured veterans', is a bit of a reach.

Come off it indeed!

If it had been William and Kate at the Invictus Games, I guess they would have been praised. But no - it is Harry and Meghan, so it must of course be self-promotion.

Cocopopsss · 18/04/2022 21:49

Well I would say MM was parading just as much as the Royals at the Easter Sunday service. MM wore new and expensive outfits and jewellery. She was there to support injured veterans, she could have worn something less pricey and casual. 🤷‍♀️
