Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?

@gogohm

I thought the opposite, he, and more Meghan were posing for their Netflix crew trying to look oh so sincere. Even her all beige outfit, why? It's all for the cameras
Indeed - it’s funny how they were supposedly quivering in their boots at the thought of doing a Royal engagement because granny wouldn’t make them special and fund unnecessary security, but as soon as Netflix hop on board they’re back happily using titles in engagements they helped set up as working Royals
Carpy88999 · 18/04/2022 19:03

I think the lot of them are pathetic

Theunamedcat · 18/04/2022 19:04

Tbf beige does suit her

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:04

And FWIW I FULLY blame Harry for blatantly not briefing his wife about what her life as a Royal would be like. Poor woman hadn’t a clue, and why would she when she hasn’t grown up in the UK? But to do things like tell her 2 seconds before meeting the Queen “oh BTW you need to curtesy” was selfish, sloppy and fucking neglectful seeing as she was about to go into the lion’s den

Chilledchablis1 · 18/04/2022 19:05

What happened to The Prince who couldn't
stand the click and flash of cameras? Or is that just in the U.K. ?

Chilledchablis1 · 18/04/2022 19:06

@ PlasticineMeg

I totally agree that H should have better prepared M .

SprayedWithDettol · 18/04/2022 19:07

The whole concept of royalty in the 21st century is an anachronism. We should be free of such nonsense. I don’t pay the smallest notice to any of them - this thread notwithstanding 😉

lollipoprainbow · 18/04/2022 19:08

Loved seeing and hearing from Meghan and Harry. I've no interest in seeing the stuffy, silly hat brigade walking to church !! Meghan is so modern and fresh compared to them.

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:08

@Chilledchablis1 yep, I remember in Kate and William’s engagement interview he was asked why it took him so long to propose (remember the ‘waity Katie’ nickname?). He said he wanted her to be as prepared as she could be for Royal life no matter how long it took. If only his brother extended the same courtesy.

Have I missed some significance about beige??

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:15

Have to say I’m a bit disappointed OP, by your thread title I thought there’d been an announcement of a Royal Pantomime, a bit like the Time they did It’s A Knockout. I think Edward would make a cracking Widow Twanky!

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 19:15

The walk to church on Easter Sunday is a long standing tradition and remember the Queen couldn't be there so it was important to see the Royal family

Yes - fully aware of the 'tradition' and the position in the established church. Point is - it was a parade of frocks following a skiing h9,I day. I struggle to think what William and Kate have done of any significance - and given the amount they are rewarded from taxpayers from doing so little - it's galling. .

OP posts:
StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 19:20

Didn't see much self promotion by Harry and Meghan - like it or not, it's 'his event' and he promotes it and it has a value internationally. (Though whatever they say will be interpreted at 'having a go').

Harry can do Invictus with or without monarchy.
William and Kate have no value outside monarchy.
Monarchy has no real value at all - impressive things can and are being done by more people who are not royal, than has ever been done by 'royal family' members.

@StoneofDestiny the Royals not only do plenty of charity work but engagements are a huge boost for the local economy of where they visit. Is it all Royals or just K&W you have a grievance with? Because AFAICS they aren’t any better or worse than any other working Royal.

And they’re walking to church as a family. Like many families, it’s not a public engagement, it’s a tradition. Should Kate have gone looking like a bag of spanners?

It was a Pantomime before that notorious Pantomime (after which Edward went into hiding) and each day is more of a Pantomime. Enter chief villain Andrew (by side door of the church), enter Prince Charming and the Princess (on top of a Land Rover) - oh yes he did!

I doubt it would have taken off in the same way if plain old Harry Windsor had suggested it…

Shh stop making sense, it’s interfering with the OP’s rant Grin

Like it or not OP, H&M have the clout in the Invictus games because of their ‘previous’ royal status, not because they themselves are particular extraordinary human beings

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 19:34

I want the whole institution abolished - clear enough I hope.

Countless thousands do impressive and life endangering charity work every hour of the day - they save lives, do the work on top of their own paid work often and do not reap the unimaginable rewards the royals do - and let's remember - that includes their offspring and partners - all reaping inherited grandeur and privilege from birth. All this while police, prison service workers, nurses and teachers struggle to get paid a decent wage.

A royal visit won't improve the choice of local schools on offer, the NHS waiting lists, the crime rate locally, or the housing situation. That is what matters day to day.

Not saying she should turn up like a 'bag of spanners', but the outing was more like a day at Ascot - and that was the importance the press gave it!

Just because you don't agree with an opinion doesn't mean it's 'a rant'.

Yes - I agree. He used his position to kick off something worthwhile. Shame the others haven't.

It’s not really up to you to decide what’s important to local economies. Im sure the food van that gets a huge boost when a Royal visits a local area thinks that’s pretty important to them. What’smore, if we got rid of everything that didn’t directly benefit schools, NHS etc it’s would be a pretty dull world.

It’s just odd you seem to be targeting 2 people making their way to church in particular, but are also fawning over 2 people who still benefit from the very same institution.

StoneofDestiny · 18/04/2022 19:43

Kates outfit wasn't new

Oops - she wore it once before, how frugal.

Rainbowqueeen · 18/04/2022 19:44

So the Duke of Edinburgh awards and the Princes Trust are nothing then??

I’m not particularly inspired by the royals (also opened the thread to read about an actual pantomime) but your bias is really mind blowing.

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:46

Well then I’m afraid you should probably do your research.

William is Patron for Centrepoint which is a homelessness charity that supports 10,000 young people to find homes. They also run the Royal Foundation and Heads Together. Which Harry gave up when leaving the RF. Google should tell you what those charities do and how they change people’s lives

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:46

What would, in your view, have been a more appropriate outfit to wear to church?
PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:48

Not to mention what the DofE scheme does for young people, particularly young people who have faced adversity. As someone who’s worked in schools, I could spend all day telling you the benefits of the DofE scheme to young people.

Nice to see Meghan taking time our her busy schedule to post a thread on MN
