Royal Pantomime

Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games. These games have a serious point, a real purpose and offer a real contribution to reminding us of the significant service and personal sacrifice by injured armed forces personnel. The competitors are certainly inspiring, showing examples of how determination and training can overcome disability.
Never was there a greater contrast in the Royal Family, showing these games and an articulate Harry and Meghan promoting them and the total pantomime of Prince William and the female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service.
I'm no royalist and want the whole institution abolished - but what a contrast this was! Or am IBU?
**@emuloc I have no problem with what anyone wears, but I didn't start a thread on mumsnet complaining about the "female Royals parading in new outfits on the way to Easter Service"

And that is your level of comprehension in reading the OP? Wow.

Two Royal Princes - one using his status to promote an internationally acclaimed event of significant worth and value - one more often seen doing very little except parading around in 'royal appearances' that could just as easily be carried out privately (and much cheaper if they were).
And how would you expect him to privately go to a church service? Walk there hidden under a bedsheet?

The RF rely on the curiosity and fascination of the Great British public, their PR machine is way too beneficial to them and powerful for them to carry out all engagements in secret.

I do know of one secret engagement back on 2010 because at the time I worked for the local authority and was involved in the visit. Prince Charles privately visited the families of victims of a mass murder. He was very nice, we weren’t present during the visit, only before and after and he went with his security i to a room for several hours speaking individually to the families. That wasn’t promoted at the time.

@HRTQueen

I thought this thread was to announce another royal It’s a Knockout

That was great Grin

Best bit was Prince Edwards tantrum

Lol - I actually thought it might be plans for a Royal Pantomine with the royals playing the parts - was quite excited.

Andrew managed it - and they even managed one of his children getting married without the public!

But yes - I agree with you. their PR machine is way too beneficial for them

Beatrice got married in lockdown with family standing far away from her. Nothing to do with her father’s scandal

Alwayscheerful · 19/04/2022 15:01

What a strange thread .
I thought you meant the panto that was Meghan introducing Harry as her husband at the games followed by the on stage kiss.
Don't they know who Harry is already ?
Why did Meghan introduce him?

StoneofDestiny · 19/04/2022 15:49

That is not true.
The whole event was scaled down to keep Andrew away from the public eye. No pictures of Andrew with his daughter at the wedding even came out.

She loves the titles does Meghan. I cringed at the introduction, such grandstanding. My husband Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex! I mean, really, who talks like that?

She got married in July 2020 when there were still restrictions on wedding sizes. The RF may not have kicked PA out but they’re not fucking stupid. They know we want to see the Queen in them. The photos we see are ones released by the RF, no press were there but I imagine her own father was on of the few guests at the wedding.
PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 16:06

Fair enough introducing him, it would be weird if she just said “goodbye” and walked off stage, but the kiss was entirely unnecessary. I’m pleased the Royals don’t tend to do PDA, no one needs to see that, it reeks of smugness

Agree plus why not “ my husband Harry “ rather than Prince Harry , Duke of Sussex “?

Blossomtoes · 19/04/2022 16:24

@emuloc

Well, if you call that work. They do have to give a little, I guess.
If you’re going to work on the premise that Meghan worked and call it work, then you have to judge the others by the same criteria.

Reeks of smugness? What a bizarre reaction. Do you feel that way about PDA when it involves Joe Bloggs? Are they being in your eyes, smug too?
GirlsTalk250 · 19/04/2022 16:27

You’ve taken a snap shot of H&M doing “royal” work and tried to use that against the full time royals.
Royals who travel round the country visiting schools, hospitals, hospices, opening buildings, presenting awards, hosting dinners, garden parties etc etc.

Except those royals often don’t make front page of the newspapers or lug around a Netflix crew…

emuloc · 19/04/2022 16:28

This thread is Gold!

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 16:34

@emuloc absolutely! No one needs to snog anyone else in public, be it on stage at the Invictus Games, or in the queue at the swimming baths as I had to put up with the other day

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/04/2022 17:04

Charles would be fine as well

Each to their own of course, but personally I'd turn down an award just to avoid meeting him
But then I'm not over-keen on paedophile enablers

EscapeTheCastle · 19/04/2022 17:26

H&M the artists formally known as royals are all about the Netflix money truck, cha-ching, cha-ching.

LetitiaLeghorn · 19/04/2022 17:29

@Puzzledandpissedoff

I'd rather get (an award) from her than any politician too

If you're thinking of OBEs, CBEs and so on you wouldn't get the chance; the Queen stopped doing these investitures ages ago and Charles steps in instead

No, I wasn't thinking of OBEs etc in particular. Could be the presentation of my BAGA gym award certificate grade 4. I'd rather get it from the Queen than Prince Charles of course, just as I'd rather get it from King Charles than Prince William. But I'd be very happy to get it from Prince Charles. Politicians drag drama around with them. Macron is head of state in France and next week it is a possibility it'll soon be Marie Le Pen. I wouldn't want anything to do with either of them. #shudder.
ancientgran · 19/04/2022 17:30

@StoneofDestiny

The sheer irony of wanting to be awarded a gong from the royals - none of them have put their life into something significant enough to win a similar award themselves! All their awards are 'honours' given as 'gifts'.

'The Firm' - In reality, some of these Royals would have been dismissed from their jobs in a normal 'Firm' if they had one - Princess Margaret, Prince Philip and Andrew to name three. While Sophie, Andrew, Fergie tried to exploit their Royal status to get money corruptly!

Prince Philip was awarded medals in WWII for his service in the navy, he wasn't married to the Queen at the time.

He may have been awarded more but I know he was awarded these as my father was also RN and had many of the same medals and one of my jobs as a little girl was to polish his medals:

1939 -45 Star
Atlantic Star
Africa Star
Burma Star
Italy Star
War Medal 1939-45

None of those medals are given as gifts, they are given for service in a very dangerous time.

So I think you should take back your comments about Prince Philip, I accept that you are probably of an age that would mean you aren't aware of his war service but to say he would have been dismissed from a job is really unfair and untrue.

He was also mentioned in dispatches

Oh stop it. The guy who owns your local petrol station could be a paedophile and you could be funding his lifestyle.
ancientgran · 19/04/2022 17:37

Too true, I worked doing admin for the vice squad of a large police force. I used to look at some "happy" families at school events knowing about some of things the husband (or older son) had been up to. It was quite an eye opener.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/04/2022 18:41

That may be so, but the guy who owns the petrol station's not going to be our next king and so be placed completely beyond the law

Say what? Are you saying Prince Charles is a paedophile?!! That's a serious accusation. What's your proof?
Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/04/2022 19:05

Maybe some reading comprehension practice needed there, LetitiaLeghorn?

I didn't write that Charles was a paedophile but a paedophile enabler and the proof of that is out there and staring us in the face, not least in the IICSA report

StoneofDestiny · 19/04/2022 19:37

I didn't say he wasn't there. Most certainly Andrew was kept out of the pictures published because of the Epstein case and his involvement. Saying it was because of Covid is ridiculous..
