To not allow DH to put a FOOTBALLING GNOME in the garden?

Just that, really.

I just walked into the kitchen to see this thing grinning at me from the table. It is a gnome in full Crystal Palace strip. DH intends for it to go in our garden. I thought he was joking but no, he's absolutely serious. Apparently it's to celebrate the fact that they've reached the semi-final of some football competition or other.

I have spent £100s on beautiful David Austin roses recently and thought we were going for a cottage garden vibe. Apparently not.

WIBU to LTB?

LTB.

Why are you posting on MN when you should be packing or phoning the police? Grin

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/04/2022 15:41

I have two gnomes.

I’m weirdly fond of them.

They’re more like stone gonks. But they fall into the ‘gnome’ category.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/04/2022 15:42

YABU.
I assume its also his garden? Gardens are supposed to be a place of joy surely.

AnotherNC22 · 08/04/2022 15:42

Deffo YANBU to LTB! 🤣🤣

Think long and hard before DH introduces gnomes - if you are in any way superstitious then it is bad luck to remove them once situated. We bought a house with two in the front border and several years on, they are still there, despite the fact i despise looking at them EVERY SINGLE DAY 😳🤯

Lolly49 · 08/04/2022 15:42

Put it in the garden then kick a football and knock it’s head off.

Hadalifeonce · 08/04/2022 15:42

I think it may get accidentally broken if it was in my garden!

Stone gonks I could (possibly) live with. Gnomes in a bright red and blue strip, fuck that.

Compromise, stick it deep in the undergrowth behind the David Austin Roses Grin

PostingForTrafficz · 08/04/2022 15:43

I bloody love a gnome. The weirder the better. So sorry but YABU I'm with your husband.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/04/2022 15:43

Wait until he's lost interest, cover it with live yogurt, quickly it's an aged stone ornament.

LakieLady · 08/04/2022 15:43

YANBU, especially if it's in a Palace strip.

I have an abiding hatred of Crystal Palace, having lived not far from the ground for several years and seen the awful behaviour of their "fans" at close quarters.

There is fuck all joyful about this creepy, ugly little dude.

We're gonna need to see it op Grin

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/04/2022 15:44

I've also got a giant Easter island head thing too. And a cow made out of plant pots

Dh is a very well behaved fan but has clearly lost his mind.

Well it's his garden too. But if they lose, put the gnome in the corner facing the wall.

UnnecessaryFennel · 08/04/2022 15:46

UGH

And £20! I could've bought another rose for that.

I HATE gnomes. When I was a child a relative of mine told me that garden gnomes come alive at night and cause mischief. Been terrified ever since.

A normal gnome I’d hate. But a football gnome???

Does he want it in the front garden or back garden?

UnnecessaryFennel · 08/04/2022 15:48

Technically it will be in the front garden, but probably (definitely) only visible from the house, not the road.

#teamfootballgnome

ProseccoStorm · 08/04/2022 15:48

Sounds hilarious. Keep him and enjoy the nonsense.

We have inherited a gnome that appears to be partaking in an intimate solo act. He's named after a favourite uncle. He looks splendid next to my David Austin roses.

Topseyt · 08/04/2022 15:49

I am now tempted to get a gnome too. I already have a stone own and a stone yorkshire terrier dog. Why not a gnome too?#

DH would be delighted if I got one in Arsenal colours, but I am tempted to go for Aston Villa instead.

I can well believe this, they are clearly EVIL.

I am shaking and crying now Grin
