I just walked into the kitchen to see this thing grinning at me from the table. It is a gnome in full Crystal Palace strip. DH intends for it to go in our garden. I thought he was joking but no, he's absolutely serious. Apparently it's to celebrate the fact that they've reached the semi-final of some football competition or other.

I have spent £100s on beautiful David Austin roses recently and thought we were going for a cottage garden vibe. Apparently not.

WIBU to LTB?

YANBU at all. If he wants the gnome fine - but plant a great stonking bush in front of it so you can’t actually see it. Or buy another bunch bigger one in CP rivals’ (whoever they are) colours.

You could secretly get rid of it but put a post up on local Facebook with "what's the world come too... someone nicked my husband's beloved gnome...is nothing safe these days" and he won't realise it was you who got rid of it.
Although problem with that is some kind hearted local people might offer to replace it...you might end up with a team of them

My mum is an incredibly keen gardener. Her garden is genuinely spectacular, beautiful layout and planting schemes, seasonal colour all year round, all in excellent taste. Tremendously out of place in all this, and yet still much loved, is her gnome wearing a Spurs kit I'm actually very fond of him now. He's so incongruous.

I had to step in when my dp thought black and white photos of Muhammad Ali would be a nice choice for our lounge. Sporting memorabilia has its place, and that place is the garage. On his side, a creepy - but obviously amazing - pottery head I bought must stay in the attic.

I am a real life person so, I'd say yes, some do?

It does NOT involve blue and red gnomes.

Anyone who hasn't visited the David Austin nursery in June is missing one of life's great experiences, it's stunning and it's free although you may find you've bought more roses than you really need by the time you leave. Let the gnome lurk in the shrubbery and bring it out on match days. When his team's lost a few matches persuade him it's unlucky and bin it.

In fairness, he does put up with my growing collection of pottery that could be described as joile-laide I suppose. I bought another vase yesterday so I think the gnome may be revenge.

Paint over his strip in the colours of the team your dh hates and tell him he was transferred. He will get rid of it himself then.
