To not allow DH to put a FOOTBALLING GNOME in the garden?

Just that, really.

I just walked into the kitchen to see this thing grinning at me from the table. It is a gnome in full Crystal Palace strip. DH intends for it to go in our garden. I thought he was joking but no, he's absolutely serious. Apparently it's to celebrate the fact that they've reached the semi-final of some football competition or other.

I have spent £100s on beautiful David Austin roses recently and thought we were going for a cottage garden vibe. Apparently not.

WIBU to LTB?

@lisaandalan

I presume it's his garden too, he should not have to ask if he's allowed he's not a child. X
It's lighthearted hun XOXOXO

@wishitwasaduvetday @UnnecessaryFennel - I really wish I had the full email thread to show you. It was the most ridiculous thing ever. My brother had actually just finished his PhD and was working in the field of physics and research so his days were split between quite high level technical work and hiding a shitty, cross-eyed owl in random places and sending spoof emails.

Thank you for posting Fennel - I would never have remembered all of this without your own deeply distressing gnome saga and it's all given me a huge laugh!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2022 18:27

Sorry if it's been suggested, but you can get Man City gnomes if you want to launch a counterstrike.

My absolute pleasure, @SpidersAreShitheads - glad it's brought back some happy memories Smile

Well, a family member keeps their Palace gnomes in the living room.

Would that work as an alternative? If not YABU

UnnecessaryFennel · 08/04/2022 18:30

Anyway, dh and I are off out for dinner in a while. I will of course be ordering for him, based on my preferences.

What's it made of OP?

I'm sure my dad once told me you can use broken pots in the bottom of non-broken pots to help with drainage or something.

At least it'll have a proper use when you 'accidentally' mow it down - in the literal sense Grin

TabithaTittlemouse · 08/04/2022 18:32

@SpidersAreShitheads your brother sounds amazing Grin

@UnnecessaryFennel I wouldn’t worry about the oh so serious poster’s trying to tell you off, they are probably gnome lovers. I wouldn’t want to associate with such riffraff.

Donotgogentle · 08/04/2022 18:33

@theemmadilemma

You need this instead:
I need one of those in my life.
UnnecessaryFennel · 08/04/2022 18:37

Oh I'm not the slightest bit fussed @TabithaTittlemouse. I am wondering if David Austin does a nice scented climber called Classist Bitch though. Could look lovely across the pergola.

In fact dh and I have just agreed he will fit in nicely by the compost bin

I'll fix that for you.

I don't even know how someone can accuse you of being classist when you were kind enough to marry a Palace fan Grin

Ah, the poor man needed to have some hope in his life.
SockFluffInTheBath · 08/04/2022 20:28

@Toottooot

Maybe he should leave you for such a garden snob 🤷🏻‍♀️
Well I’m dead working class and he’d better not come my way with his stripey fucking gnome. They say football is a religion. Possibly. Roses certainly are- you’re either one of us or you’re not 🤓
Imissmoominmama · 09/04/2022 11:42

@Ludoole- brilliant!! Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 09/04/2022 11:45

Speaking as a massive football fan, whose team also got through to the semi final of some competition or other, YANBU. ALL football themed items for the home and garden are naff and unspeakably revolting.

LTB. And cancel the cheque while you’re at it!

ThinWomansBrain · 09/04/2022 11:45

YABU - having one is really unfair.
You need a full team, plus subs waiting in the wings.
And an opposing team for them to play against.
How big is your garden?

Let him put it out in the garden - then disappear it.
Maybe sell it on eBay?

Gizacluethen · 09/04/2022 12:03

I couldn't get mad about a 20 quid gnome.

..... but hundreds of pounds on fucking flowers? I'd be steaming. You can get them for 5p when they're a bit dehydrated.

GrandTheftWalrus · 09/04/2022 12:40

Thanks to this thread I'm now getting adverts for them on fb.

Wonder if I can get a rangers one for my dad...

threecupsofteaminimum · 10/04/2022 12:59

Just be grateful it's not an Arsenal strip tbf

ExplodingElephants · 10/04/2022 13:34

I'm surprised he 'allows' such a waste of money in roses, maybe he has an opinion of those or are you the arbiter of what goes in the garden?
UnnecessaryFennel · 10/04/2022 14:43

Yes.

Are you always this humourless?
