Hope you don't mind whytcvv just posting here as your thread reached the limit for posts

Posting your original OP here:- Ignore my previous thread-start as it didn't include important title"

whytcvv
When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.

@TheAbbotOfUnreason

Emma Weyant won Olympic silver in the 400 IM in Tokyo. Brooke Forde was awarded an Olympic silver medal for swimming in the 4 x 200 Free relay prelims.

I don’t know if Weyant or Forde also spoke out in defence of Thomas.

@TheAbbotOfUnreason, just so you know Brooke Forde did defend Lia Thomas’s right to compete. I don’t agree with her.

“In an episode of Yahoo Sports’ College Football Enquirer podcast, Sports Illustrated reporter Pat Forde shared a statement from his daughter Brooke about her thoughts on competing against Thomas. Here is the statement in-full:

I have great respect for Lia. Social change is always a slow and difficult process, and we rarely get it correct right away. Being among the first to lead such a social change requires an enormous amount of courage and I admire Lia for her leadership that will undoubtedly benefit many trans athletes in the future. In 2020 I, along with most swimmers, experienced what it was like to have my chance to achieve my swimming goals taken away after years of hard work. I would not wish this experience on anyone, especially Lia, who has followed the rules required of her. I believe that treating people with respect and dignity is more important than any trophy or record will ever be, which is why I will not have a problem racing against Lia at NCAAs this year.

“I was impressed by the perspective,” Pat said after reading his daughter’s thoughts. “People don’t necessarily have to agree. I’m not sure I agree completely because I’m not sure this is a level playing field. My daughter’s thing is, ‘I’m the one that has to get in the pool with her and I’m fine with it.’ I think some people could take a good lesson from that.”

Thanks @Zotter - I hadn’t seen that.

The lesson that I take is that fairness and women's rights are not Brooke Forde's to give away on behalf of all women.

GroovyGroovy · 05/04/2022 11:53

Do you remember the nursery story of "The Emperor Without Any Clothes?" (Must read it again sometime).

Thats how I feel with all the lunacy on this subject.

Who the people are in "authority" - whether sports councils, health authorities, councils etc that are sanctioning all this nonsense - I simply cannot get my head around it. Whether they believe this rubbish themselves or are just completely gutless in the face of pressure from Stonewall, Mermaid and various self-interest groups, its hard to say.

Justanotherobserver · 05/04/2022 11:53

Quite, I agree.

GroovyGroovy · 05/04/2022 11:56

arethereanyleftatall. I have no words for your swimming situation SadAngry

Exactly.

Interesting from the PM. Just hope he means it and they aren't empty words

Historyherstory · 06/04/2022 21:42

@Glittertwins

After all the Uturns I’m finding it hard to trust the PM on this!

BUT it does feel a relief that someone is recognising the current ridiculous state of affairs…

itsgettingweird · 06/04/2022 21:56

I'm not 100% sure he actually recognises it but he's realised what he feeling if the country is and jumped on board.

Likely a vote winning attempt but he'll get it because of labours stance.

And as long as it's action and not just words that follow I couldn't give a toss about his motives in all honesty!

Definitely not liking reports that Labour are pushing back on a blanket ban on trans athletes competing in female events.

Brendan O'Neill podcast Great interview with Sharron Davies well worth a listen.

British Cycling maybe admitting they have made a mistake when they threw women under the bus?

@334bu

Brendan O'Neill podcast Great interview with Sharron Davies well worth a listen.
This should be broadcast on public speakers throughout the land! Sharron Davies is knowledgeable, articulate, fair and passionate. She puts her points across in simple understandable terms, she doesn’t resort to abuse or denigration, she accepts that trans people want to take part in sports, but at the same time she says clearly and unambiguously that the priority in female sport is the women who are currently involved and the future women athletes who are presently at grassroots level. Well worth listening to, thank you @334bu for the link. Anyone in any doubt of the issue should make a cup of tea or pour a glass of something and listen .
duskyspringfield · 08/04/2022 20:01

I think this is the final nail in Labour’s coffin anyway…

Unless Rosie Duffield (?) is keen to step up??

707smile · 08/04/2022 20:08

Even surgically castrated transgender women have been exposed to adequate amounts of testosterone during their physical development that their musculature is different.

How about if we're going to have to go along with all this trans stuff, that there's a separation division for Transwomen and Women?
