Hope you don't mind whytcvv just posting here as your thread reached the limit for posts

Posting your original OP here:- Ignore my previous thread-start as it didn't include important title"

whytcvv
When will the rules change as I completely agree this is unfair and I expect that you will all largely agree with me.

For anyone that doesn't agree, please explain your reasoning to help me better understand.

This reminds me of the weightlifting story from last year.

People that are born female and people who are born male should not be competing in these events together. Our physical bodies are not comparable.

Have as many genders as you can think of, but there are only two possible sexes that you can be born as and that is what eligibility in these competitions should be based on.

@arethereanyleftatall : good luck for Rome! I've done EM before, I'm not doing anywhere near enough training to justify it now though.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/03/2022 14:18

@Glittertwins thank you!

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 25/03/2022 14:42

@Helleofabore

also read that 2 of those 3 young women fully support LT and have stated do publicly

Have they released statements since the event? To clarify that the photo was not a protest then?

Because I have not seen those new statements.

And a whole lot of good sentiment can disappear with the missing of a podium finish you expected.

If I have missed their renewed support, I would like to see it. Otherwise, they have had ample time to reconfirm and to denounce the ‘protest’. If they haven’t, that is also noteworthy.

Erica Sullivan posted the photo of her, Weyant and Forde (3rd, 2nd and 4th respectively in the 500 yd final) on Insta stating that the photo was not a podium protest but celebrating getting together as 2021 Olympic team mates. Not sure why Forde was holding a medal unless they do medals for 4th place or it was a medal from a different race.

I do wonder if any of those women would have been as supportive if they’d lost their Olympic squad place to Thomas.

Incidentally, the men’s NCAA swimming finals are currently underway. Bobby Finke, 2021 Olympics gold medalist in 800m and 1500m Free didn’t even make the 500 yd Free A final. It was won by Michael Sates in a time of 4:06.61.

Thomas’s winning time was 4:33.24. Thomas’s PB for 500 Free is 4:18.72 from Feb 2019 (so before hormone treatment), This time would place 36th in this years Mens 500 Free prelims.

Sophoclesthefox · 25/03/2022 14:43

good luck for rome, arethereany!

hope it all goes really well for you

TheAbbotOfUnreason

Thanks, TheAbbot.

so 1 out of the 3. And the one that has an Olympic medal which trumps this race so her future career prospects are a-ok without a higher place in that race.

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 25/03/2022 18:19

Emma Weyant won Olympic silver in the 400 IM in Tokyo. Brooke Forde was awarded an Olympic silver medal for swimming in the 4 x 200 Free relay prelims.

I don’t know if Weyant or Forde also spoke out in defence of Thomas.

More athletes questioning how unfair thus is to everybody.

Not a bad letter that…

@spacehardware

It's not just that every race counts and the need to maintain / improve their personal bests (although that is important) - this is college sports. At this elite level funding of their college education is contingent on continuing to make the cut in these events. If they refuse to take part they could lose everything.
A lot of the funding in women's college swimming is Title IX ie federally funded to ensure female participation!
Valeriekat · 31/03/2022 03:16

@DrSbaitso

If I saw a transwoman athlete competing in her correct sex class, wearing women's gear for her sport, I'd cheer her so, so fucking hard.
This is brilliant!

A woman is not a castrated man.

It’s being reported that the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America has recognised the women pushed out into 9th and 17th places by Thomas at the NCAAs by granting them first and second-team status. Normally it’s the top eight swimmers granted first team and the 9-16 performers on the second team.

Now happening in English Universities but this time it is a female footballer who has lost her place.

mistyoak · 01/04/2022 14:52

Outright cheating

2Gen · 01/04/2022 18:26

Of course YANBU!
I may just not have heard of a case, but it never seems to occur that F-M trans want to compete against men. I have certainly never heard of a F-M trans wanting to be put in a men's prison when convicted of a crime! I think the why of this is obvious. F-M trans athletes know they wouldn't stand a chance competing against men and a F-M trans's life in a men's prison wouldn't be worth living! It might not even be very long come to that!
As it is, it's men pretending to be women who are no good against other men so they claim to be trans, compete against women with their biological advantages and thus, are cheats. With women's prisons it's male sexual deviants who are jumping on the trans band-wagon to gain easy access to women in prisons so they can prey on them.
It's so fecking obvious to me that it's legally enabled and legislated misogyny and IMO it is evil! Women are suffering and if this is not stopped, we will soon hear of a women being murdered by one of these creeps in a prison or a refuge or even a public toilets. There have already been a fair few rapes. It has to stop!

Ketoketo · 03/04/2022 10:57

And now there’s a story about a transwoman being selected as goalie for Hastings United. This is ridiculous, not to mention incredibly unfair.

The unfairness, the greater risk of injury, it’s appalling.

Women’s sports are being decimated and governing bodies and the government are just letting it happen.

I feel so sad this morning.

Only Rosie Duffield has spoken out.

I have no one to vote for in the May elections. Do I just spoil my ballot paper or what?

Where is Gary Lineker on this issue?

334bu · 03/04/2022 12:13

Said goalkeeper has been playing for Hastings for a while. The controversy at the moment is that they have deprived a woman of a place in the English Universities Women's team

Keepingmytoeswarm · 03/04/2022 13:52

@334bu - that’s still shit

Keepingmytoeswarm · 03/04/2022 13:54

Women should be competing on women’s teams… the goalkeeper is still depriving a woman of her place.

If men’s football was threatened by bigger, stronger men there would be OUTRAGE!

334bu · 04/04/2022 14:37
Helen Joyce talking a lot of sense about the conflict of rights between male athletes who identify as women and female athletes.
