I have ploughman’s sandwich, steak McCoys and a sprite (Tesco)

When I was a student 20 years ago, I was broke all the time but always saved up for a Boots meal deal on a Friday. Shapers vegetarian bean wrap, Shapers mint chocolate bar and I think back then you could choose between a drink or a third food item. Diet Coke in the plastic bottle not the can or a packet of fake bacon crisps. Choices, choices!

theruffles · 14/03/2022 13:58

Feta & tomato pasta, original Doritos and a bottle of Coke (Tesco)

None, I dont feel the need to eat or drink, when out shopping.

I don't think many people buy meal deals to eat while out shopping - my understanding is they are usually purchased to be eaten at lunchtime at work/if on a train over lunchtime etc

Eh? There is no rule when you can eat them!Confused
I eat them when I'm at work

I mainly get them for a work lunch. Sometimes if dh and I are out on a day walk, that’s our treat lunch.

@Grasping

Vegan wrap Innocent Smoothie Eat Natural Bar

I don’t eat them all. It does me lunch for 2 days

Confused Who was talking about shopping? I presume people are mostly referring to lunch during their working day. Not sure what's so bad about having lunch in the middle of a longish shopping trip though! Some people might even stop for lunch at a café Shock.

Hobbesmanc · 14/03/2022 14:21

Sainos- Cheese savoury sarnie, S and V square crisps, cherry pepsi max

RestlessMillennial · 14/03/2022 14:29

Co Op Chicken, bacon and sweetcorn mayo pasta. With an Oasis Summer Fruits, and cheese and onion walkers baked crisps. But also partial to tuna and sweetcorn sarnie, or sushi.

Badnightguaranteed · 14/03/2022 14:36

love this thread.
Only on Mumsnet does a meal deal last two days Grin

Nicholethejewellery · 14/03/2022 15:12

Not had one since pre-Covid but my usual would be BLT sandwich, beef Hula Hoops and a smoothie (because they're more expensive than other drinks so I feel like I'm getting more for my money).

Wilkolampshade · 14/03/2022 15:37

Egg and cress sarnie, Walkers Ready Salted, Diet Coke
Or:
Cheese Savoury sarnie, Cheesy or Beef Hula Hoops, Diet Coke

What a great thread OP 😂

Butteredtoast55 · 14/03/2022 16:01

Wait....what? What is a cheese savoury sandwich and where can I get one? Tempted to steal Hobbesmanc's meal deal!

Liverbird77 · 14/03/2022 16:29

Egg sandwich, either beef hoops or salt and vinegar squares and a diet coke

rookiemere · 14/03/2022 16:33

Cheese savoury sandwiches are £1.50 in Tesco, so you might be better skipping the meal deal, same for egg mayo or plain ham or tuna.

DameHelena · 14/03/2022 16:50

Haven't worked in an office for aeons, so my memory is hazy as to where I'd go for them, but you can't beat a tuna sandwich and steak McCoys (interesting that they make such a good showing on this thread!)
I don't like fizzy/sweetened drinks, so would go for fizzy water.

zingally · 14/03/2022 16:52

Chicken and stuffing sandwich (or maybe chicken salad), packet of Quavers and an orange juice.

Wilkolampshade · 14/03/2022 17:06

@Butteredtoast55
Cheese Savoury, often labelled as Cheese and Onion, (I get mine from the Co-op) actually MUCH more like the Cheese Savoury stotty filling I remember from Greggs in Newcastle when I was a student there in the eighties. Cheese, mayo, onion and I think a wee bit of grated carrot. It's like cheese and coleslaw but on caloric steroids. Fuckin delicious.
A Google around and it looks like Morrisons do a tub of it at sandwich filler, and as PP has said, Tesco do a cheap one too - although personally I think its too oily and not creamy enough.
Sorry, trying to post links but phone being an arse.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Morrisons are indeed the King of meal deals and it's so frustrating there is not one anywhere near me Shock

Tandoori naan, innocent smoothie, graze lemon drizzle (Tesco £3)

Fernsinthegarden · 14/03/2022 17:25

I’ve enjoyed this thread so much. Do some posters realise that photosynthesis isn’t a viable human choice?
For posterity -
Southern fried chicken wrap
Prawn cocktail walkers
Fanta lemon
OR
Greg’s Mexican chicken baguette and whatever crisps are left on the meal deal shelf.
