Sex scenes in movies

Now I’m not a prude. I enjoy sex just as much as the next person. But I’m fed up of every other scene in a movie being a sex scene. It’s boring and often takes away from the storyline. Am I the only one who feels this way? I think it would be better if it was simply implied, rather than showing the whole scene. It’s just unnecessary and annoying. Anyone agree or am I in the minority here?

Every sex scene there has ever been in the entire history of cinema and TV and books has been completely mortifyingly cringey and mostly unnecessary to the plot. Fact. Grin

Unless you’re watching the 50 Shades Trilogy then what movies are you talking about that have this much sex in?

I might have to go and have a watch of them before passing comment…. Grin

I’ve found myself thinking they should cut after maybe 10 seconds. We all know what happens once the clothes start coming off, 10 mins of grinding under the duvet is not moving the story forward.

Yep, they're shit. They're not exciting, because they're unrealistic, and if they were realistic they'd probably be a bit nauseating. A chaste, post-coital scene in the bed with the sheets over is perfectly adequate.

I will make an exception for comedy sex scenes however, they can be good. Like the one at the beginning of Bridesmaids. It's when they're meant to be sexy that they're awful.

I just watched a movie called All I See is You and not only was it bloody boring anyway but there were about 6 or 7 completely unnecessary sex scenes that had nothing to do with the storyline.

Add in the unnecessary and graphic violence that also seems to be prevalent.

Darkstar4855 · 06/03/2022 17:56

It’s not just movies! Grey’s Anatomy has so many sex scenes it’s amazing they get any work done! And what’s with all the women wearing bras during sex?

girlmom21 · 06/03/2022 17:57

I haven't watched a film with a sex scene for ages. But they are cringey and unnecessary.

This. I feel it would be better if it is simply implied, then cut to next scene. I don’t understand the necessity of showing the whole scene, showing his bottom if he’s on top, the unrealistic fake orgasmic noises Grin

Are we talking sex scenes here or graphic violent scenes? Because I think with graphic violent scenes, if it’s relevant to the movie then I don’t mind. Saying that though, I watched that over-hyped series Squid Game some weeks ago and found the violence unnecessarily exaggerated.

I was thinking the same.

The only one I've seen recently was House of Gucci and all I could think was that's Lada Gaga shagging Kylo Ren Confused

VaddaABeetch · 06/03/2022 18:03

I love it when women are screaming in orgasmic ecstasy at the mere sight of a penis. It very true to life.

movies now generally have far less sex in them than when I was a teenager/young adult. the most recent fifty shades shitfest made the news a little bit for being the only movie that year to get an R rating for sexual content. the Hollywood 'bonkbuster' seems to be largely a thing of the past.

television, on the other hand...

it makes sense, though, honestly, online content has made new viewing habits (huge generalisations ahead), aimed principally at a male audience you have plain old pornography, filth, which they typically watch alone, and aimed principally at a female audience you have 'racy romdram' like bridgerton or sex lives, which they, again, will typically watch alone.

zeldaonadreamcloud · 06/03/2022 18:08

I completely agree. I find the sex scenes almost always dull and an interruption to the actual story. Could just be implied. Wish they would not do them.

Hyenaormeercat · 06/03/2022 18:10

I have always said that if it needs to be graphic the producers and directors are rubbish..its lack of artistic talent..

Snow1n · 06/03/2022 18:13

I agree. They rarely add anything to it at all, in fact I tend to get bored and roll my eyes, and possibly switch it off if it was on so so anyway

isthismylifenow · 06/03/2022 18:20

Outlander springs to mind.

I agree, it's a bit much. We don't need to watch the entire sexual act.

flashpaper · 06/03/2022 18:22

There's one in Eternals. It was entirely unnecessary to show that the two characters loved each other. It wasn't graphic but not needed at all.
And in This is Going to Hurt. Just not required at all.

Exactly! Although can I just say, currently watching a movie called Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal. There has now been 2 sex scenes in the space of 14 minutes and while I am a married woman, I would gladly allow this hunk of a man to do whatever he wants with me. Repeatedly. Grin

I need to watch This is Going to Hurt. But I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews about it.

If every other seen has sex in it then why are you watching Pornhub in the first place?

BadHabitsOn · 06/03/2022 18:25

Have just rewatched Bridgerton before the new series arrives at the end of the month and had forgotten just how much sex there was in it!

Lots of lengthy, energetic shagging too! I just prefer eating chocolate and watching tv...

musicalfrog · 06/03/2022 18:26

I was thinking there just aren't any decent sex scenes any more.

80s films though, now you're talking!

cantbecoping · 06/03/2022 18:26

HATE them, no need for them. I stopped watching Outlander because of them. We get the message but we don't need a close up of heads between legs and screaming and writhing in complete orgasmic rapture. I just fast forward them. 10 secs is enough.

ofwarren · 06/03/2022 18:27

I love Outlander but I fast forward the sex scenes. I don't need to see it.
