Sex scenes in movies

Now I’m not a prude. I enjoy sex just as much as the next person. But I’m fed up of every other scene in a movie being a sex scene. It’s boring and often takes away from the storyline. Am I the only one who feels this way? I think it would be better if it was simply implied, rather than showing the whole scene. It’s just unnecessary and annoying. Anyone agree or am I in the minority here?

Woman usually on top, or on display more than the man. Yawn

Laiste · 06/03/2022 18:31

I'm sitting here thinking and honestly not many of the films me and DH sit through these days has many full on sex scenes.

Mind you we tend to veer towards sci fi block busters and horror though. Or comedies such as Tropic Thunder.

worriedabouttomorrow · 06/03/2022 18:32

I know it is not something I like either

MayorMargeret · 06/03/2022 18:33

It's the microphones picking up the slurping kissing noises that's the worst. Sounds like someone sucking soup off a spoon.

ToastandJamandTea · 06/03/2022 18:34

Not always irrelevant. Shame comes to mind as an example of very raw sex scenes that were vital to the story. I guess everyone who watched that knew what they were getting into though.

mumsie8 · 06/03/2022 18:35

Thank god i'm not as big a prude as i thought I was! I had to stop watching Outlander because i just couldn't bear watching anymore deeply satisfying for them sex scenes probably because i'm jealous that i don't have a fraction of that passion

WildFlowerBees · 06/03/2022 18:35

They're all very cringe, why does she still have her bra on when they've been humping all night, how is her make up still perfect no smudgy mascara or a false lash stuck to her cheek and the worst when they wake in the morning and face to face say ' good morning' then start going at it. All I can think is Christ you both must stink 😷

Nancydrawn · 06/03/2022 18:38

I think it's a bit odd to be blasé about dozens of people dying onscreen and flinching at a bare bum.

Momicrone · 06/03/2022 18:39

No sex scene is vital to the story, the knowledge that sex has happened, may be, but not a graphic depiction of it. Tv dramas have loads, normal people and industry to name just two.

A bare bum is not a sex scene.
Blossomtoes · 06/03/2022 18:42

It was the only thing I disliked about Bridgerton - so many sex scenes.

ClemFandangoo · 06/03/2022 18:43

The only one I've seen recently was House of Gucci and all I could think was that's Lady Gaga shagging Kylo Ren

Haha same and that was so bloody unrealistic too. Me and DP just looked at each other and laughed as if DP tried to hoik me up with one hand like that he’d be on the floor squashed as I’d have face planted on top of him 🤣

Momicrone · 06/03/2022 18:43

So many blow jobs as well

mynamesnotMa · 06/03/2022 18:43

Totally unnecessary. Trying to be risqué. It's like watching someone shit

dirtbird · 06/03/2022 18:44

Totally agree. Watched Death on the Nile a few weeks ago and the while there was no sex scene there was a lot grinding and I just thought that it cheapened the whole thing. Totally unnecessary

BOOTS52 · 06/03/2022 18:45

I agree also but what gets to me more is that in so many movies there are strip shows and half naked woman gyrating around on poles, never seem to have naked men. I like Jake also who is a great actor.

MorningStarling · 06/03/2022 18:46

YABU, I don't know what films you enjoy but sex scenes are pretty rare. To me the main problem is that the scenes are so obviously false, I prefer things like 9 Songs or Shortbus which actually show people having sex rather than people simulating it (even if they're not great films, at least they tried). It's not like it has to be faked (which obviously is the case in scenes where people get killed etc.). Sex scenes should be real, even if they are not graphic.

I also find it strange how obviously fake most sex scenes are. It's like actors are able to recreate other emotions but when it comes to sex scenes everything has to be a caricature.

Sobeyondthehills · 06/03/2022 18:47

The main I remember is watching a creature feature, cant remember what sort of animal it was but think dinosaur, come onto land was killing everyone and for some reason the main actor and actress decided then was the best point to have sex.

It still puzzles me, but because I cant remember anything else about the film, I cant find it to rewatch it. This might not be a bad thing considering some of the crap I have watched

BikerWifeFromMars · 06/03/2022 18:47

I watched top gun with DD (20) and there's a sex scene where you see Tom Cruise dip his tongue in the woman's mouth in a silhouetted view and we were both Shock

boatyardblues · 06/03/2022 18:49

@Darkstar4855

It’s not just movies! Grey’s Anatomy has so many sex scenes it’s amazing they get any work done! And what’s with all the women wearing bras during sex?
There must be a very low proportion of screen writers and directors who are “breast men” or, alternatively many savvy actresses with watertight no nudity clauses in their Winkcontracts.

You think movie actors should have actual sex?

Crazykatie · 06/03/2022 18:50

Cringy, yes mostly not relevant to the story usually, although probably less harmful than the blatant violence you get in many movies. On the other side if movies did not provided drama and excitement there would be a lot of unemployed actors.

redglobox · 06/03/2022 18:50

Please send me a list of the films you have watched recently.

Never enough sex for me

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/03/2022 18:51

What I find funny is the inverse relationship between RL harm and complaining.

Swearing - does no harm whatsoever, masses of complaints about it in the media.
Sex - can cause harm possibly (unwanted pregnancy, STIs, they never wear condoms in films), quite a lot of complaints.
Violence - Obviously causes lots of harm, fewer complaints. This is often sexual violence or the threat of it casually thrown around.

Misogyny and a general lack of passing the Bechdel test and/or tits and arse almost constant - Cause lots of harm, crickets and tumbleweed.

Very strange.

OP watch Before We Go. No sex, lovely film.

Moaningturtle · 06/03/2022 18:52

I’ll have nothing bad said about Outlander….it awakened something in me Grin
