Sex scenes in movies

Now I’m not a prude. I enjoy sex just as much as the next person. But I’m fed up of every other scene in a movie being a sex scene. It’s boring and often takes away from the storyline. Am I the only one who feels this way? I think it would be better if it was simply implied, rather than showing the whole scene. It’s just unnecessary and annoying. Anyone agree or am I in the minority here?

Not sure what your watching but most films dont have sex scenes these days . I go to the cinema alot.. Seriously? I think there’s pretty much always an unnecessary sex scene.

Can you name some ?

I seriously dont remember seeing many lately

Most are unrealistic, never any mention of condoms or other forms of contraception. Cringe is appropriate.

Maybe those conversations happened off screen

In the episode of Normal People where the two first have sex there's more about contraception than was required IMO. Everyone was raving about it though.

But I don't think films and tv programmes are supposed to be documentaries to teach everyone about contraception are they?

Haggisfish3 · 07/03/2022 17:54

@Sparklingbrook I thought it was really good.

I don't remember it in the book so they must have decided to add it for some reason. Confused After that, no mention of contraception until near the end of the series though.

I am surprised at so many of the views here. While there's still a lot of rubbish TV series where the sex is fairly gratuitous (hello, Netflix), so much more often it's honest, moving & enhancing a storyline.

So much less of over-made up women in lingerie never seen in real life, spouting ridiculous lines to a dominant man.

I would say the concept of female pleasure is being brought far more to the fore, overall.

I agree with this. I've seen far more shows recently where there is more attention to oral sex and female pleasure than even 5 years ago.

I'd far rather watch a good sex scene than anything violent at all. A well made film/show will be enhanced by it, ie the sense of the nature of the relationship can be felt etc. Sex is one of the great pleasures in life so why shouldn't it be celebrated and shared?

Yes, absolutely agree.

I agree with this. Black Sails for instance is a brilliant TV series but geez louise, stop with the tits already.

@LittleGwyneth

Love a good sex scene. Can't imagine watching a show where people die and feeling fine about that but upset about a bit of shagging. But then this is mumsnet, where most people don't like sex.
For those of us who are very old, it's as near as we're going to get to the real thing!!!
