To think Linda Evangelista still looks great?

I've always loved Linda Evangelista and recently read her Instagram posts in which she refers to herself as 'disformed' and I'd really expected her to look completely different. I've just seen some photos of her taken recently and she still looks amazing, she's 56 and whilst not quite the supermodel she once was she's still a really beautiful woman. And whiIe I know if must be different for her as her face was literally her fortune and I'm in no way trying to imply that what she's been through and continues to got through isn't really traumatic for her but more that it's a really sad state of affairs when a woman feels so unattractive and unhappy when she starts to look her age.

Agree - can't see where she thinks she's deformed tbh

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 06/03/2022 16:11

I don't think she looks deformed at all and it's more than looking her age. She looks completely different. I despair of how normal plastic surgery has become.

AngeloMysterioso · 06/03/2022 16:11

‘When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression’

In LE’s case, her privilege was her beauty. Not being drop-dead gorgeous must feel like deformity in her eyes, although not, obviously, to those of us who’ve been bang average all our lives.

Want2beme · 06/03/2022 16:12

I thought the same thing when I saw a photo of her the other day. To me, she just looks like someone who's ageing. I wasn't sure which super model she was, so I looked at photos of her through the years, and, I think her face has changed many times.

10001namechanges · 06/03/2022 16:12

She is beautiful but she is referring to the bulges, like the one under her armpit/above bra line in the pic, that appeared after the treatment.

I feel deformed because I’ve lost weight at mid 40 and I’m left with a tummy like an old deflated party balloon. Someone telling me I look great because they see me with my clothes on doesn’t take away the fact I’d be mortified if my top fell open in public because I now have the tummy of a 90 year old. I imagine that’s kind of what she means.

I couldn't see a hint of the deformity she was talking about tbh

Dillydollydingdong · 06/03/2022 16:13

She isn't beautiful any more, and she's used to being beautiful.

Byefornow · 06/03/2022 16:13

I think she looks fine and perfectly normal.

gunnersgold · 06/03/2022 16:16

It must be hard to go from being so beautiful to being plain . Im starting to age at 48 after being young looking and 'pretty' . Im finding it hard so it Must be a million times worse for her . Especially as Naomi and cindy look incredible still!

RitaFires · 06/03/2022 16:17

I can understand her feeling deformed when she has hard lumps protruding from parts of her body that cause her physical pain. I don't think they're that obvious to the naked eye but she must be constantly aware of them.

It's a shame that it's not acceptable to age gracefully for many in the public eye but I can't blame her for being upset that she had rare side effects from a cosmetic procedure.

Exactly it’s these spots of fat she’s talking about and she’s described how they’re solid masses so not even a “bulge” really. I think most people would be very upset to have large solid lumps appear around their body and apparently there’s nothing much that can be done.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/03/2022 16:19

She looks great.

She's used to looking phenomenal though. I understand why it's hard for her.

Lurking9to5 · 06/03/2022 16:19

Yeh to me she still looks v attractive
Still looks more attractive than most people her age and more attractive than most ordinary yo8nger people.

Agree that beaty was her privilege and she just do3snt get that the majority of us went through life without it

But she's not your average woman, is she? She was one of the most famous models ever. Her face was literally her fortune. She still looks OK facially, but honestly, I wouldn't look twice at her in the street. She's just average now, and given her past, that must hurt.

That said, other models adapt to ageing much better. I think Linda always had a certain arrogance and disdain for others not fortunate enough to be born looking like her. Not just her famous $10,000 a day quote, but also something she said about how if she were plain, she'd be a teacher. Well, now she is relatively plain, maybe she should retrain as a teacher? It might be more useful than complaining about a rare but known side effect of a 'treatment' she chose to subject herself to.

newlabelwriter · 06/03/2022 16:20

See I'd say she still is beautiful, not supermodel beautiful but if I had a friend of the same age and looked like her I'd definitely still consider her so. Agree with @10001namechanges that it's all entirely relative to how you feel yourself.

I think her face doesnt look like it has aged. It looks like it's been botched. She has weird lumps and bumps in different parts of her face.

I wouldn't call it deformed but it doesnt look like normal aging either.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/03/2022 16:25

She's still beautiful but anyone would be horrified at having big lumps sticking out of them.

Nnique · 06/03/2022 16:26

It’s the bulging masses of fat on her body she’s referring to, not just the fact that her face is rounder as a result of ageing and weight gain.

However speaking more generally, for a strikingly beautiful woman like her of course it’s potentially going to feel quite horrendous to no longer have that, especially if one’s whole identity/sense of self was wrapped up in it in the past and especially in one’s formative adult years.

I think she’s still a beautiful woman but I understand why she hid herself away, although I do think it’s very sad that she felt it was necessary to do so.

Theluggage15 · 06/03/2022 16:29

She’s got big solid lumps in her body due to the treatment she had, I’d be upset and I wasn’t a supermodel! I think she was one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen, I can understand why she feels so bad.

CounsellorTroi · 06/03/2022 16:32

I think Linda Evangelista looks great. She looks a lot better than Marie Helvin.

Nnique · 06/03/2022 16:33

As pp has said, I do think her (in)famous quip says a great deal about just how much her sense of self-worth was tied up, quite literally, in fact, in the bankability of her face and body.

It’s so important to have more than that or you risk feeling like an empty shell when your looks go.

DrSbaitso · 06/03/2022 16:33

@Byefornow

I think she looks fine and perfectly normal.
But she isn't used to fine and normal. She's used to extreme beauty.
DrSbaitso · 06/03/2022 16:34

I'm nothing special to look at and I'd be upset if I had lumps like that on my body.

Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 16:40

I also think it's those large solid painful bulges she's referring to.

Apparently her neck ( which is undoubtedly thicker and not the swan like profile she had ) is also a problem due to cool sculpting.

I agree that it must be very hard for her to age having been one of the most beautiful women in the world but I genuinely think that's not it.

Her peers are all still looking hard turningly stunning ( Naomi and cindy for example ) and because she used the cool sculpting to correct smaller issues with her body she has been left with what she considers deformities.

I lost six stone in my late 40's and was left with a very loose neck and profile. For me it was a choice financially between my stomach which is still a 16/18 because Of the huge spare tyre or my neck.

I had the surgery on my neck and lower face in the end as I thought relying on Spanx can at least disguise it whereas I couldn't do anything about my neck.

I do wonder if she's put weight on due to hiding for 3 years after being disfigured with all of those lumps, perhaps she turned to eating ( I probably would ) 🤷‍♀️

Clarabe1 · 06/03/2022 16:41

It must be so hard ageing when you are in the public eye and have been known for your beauty. To me she is not deformed at all but obviously that is how she feels. I think there is a hard lesson there, you cannot mess with nature. I saw Madonna looking incredibly bloated in the newspaper yesterday. I am guessing she has gone too far with the fillers. It’s sad that we women feel the need to take these risks with our health and looks..
