To think Linda Evangelista still looks great?

I've always loved Linda Evangelista and recently read her Instagram posts in which she refers to herself as 'disformed' and I'd really expected her to look completely different. I've just seen some photos of her taken recently and she still looks amazing, she's 56 and whilst not quite the supermodel she once was she's still a really beautiful woman. And whiIe I know if must be different for her as her face was literally her fortune and I'm in no way trying to imply that what she's been through and continues to got through isn't really traumatic for her but more that it's a really sad state of affairs when a woman feels so unattractive and unhappy when she starts to look her age.

@5128gap

I'm not sure why the teacher comment is so offensive? Is it not just a statement of fact that had she not had the looks to become a model she would have had a different job? It's not disrespectful to teachers to acknowledge that her looks made it possible for her to have a more glamorous and lucrative career than theirs. Its stating the obvious really.
Because the implication is that teaching is a job for ugly people.

And how does she know she'd have had the skills to qualify as a teacher? She might not have even made the entrance exams.

If she's said something like 'I really wanted to be a teacher but then I was lucky enough to be offered a modelling contract when I was 15', I don't think anyone would have had an issue with it.

IcedPurple · 07/03/2022 12:37

You asked why I thought it was a joke. I told you. I'm sorry if the answer to your question offends you.

Who's 'offended'?

I would love to spend the rest of the day arguing with you about who cares more about everything Linda Evangelista has ever said to the press and how much of their headspace it takes up. It sounds really exciting.

It was you who tried to make this discussion into a silly personal spat about how much thought has been given to the topic. Not me. I won't be responding to your attempts at bad sarcasm any further.

It's such a shame that maturing women are not seen as beautiful and younger women are expected to adhere to a very narrow definition of prescribed beauty which is getting narrower by the day thanks to botox/ fillers.
In the meantime men can slob about and not get the same scrutiny as they are judged more on humour and intelligence. Mary Beard, a very intelligent, therefore attractive woman was properly slated for her looks.

Notwithittoday · 07/03/2022 12:46

I think it’s hard to tell without seeing her just prior to the procedure. She seems to have had a bad reaction to the procedure she had done so she’s right to complain. Women need to be aware of risks. She does look a bit odd but she always did have an odd look. Beautiful obviously but almost other worldly looking. I think where she is now is combination of normal ageing, a bad reaction to the fat freezing, weight gain from depression, and general sadness

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 12:50

Madonna looks so young in photos these days but no idea if it's touched up photos or if she's genuinely been inflated

Is that a joke, or haven't you seen the photos?!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/03/2022 12:53

I think LE looks like Ashley Judd in the pics on the DM. And I think Ashley Judd is gorgeous (although she's had botched cosmetic surgery I believe).

I can see why a person who's made their living on their face and body would be upset by this. Honestly though seeing the before pics it's kind of unclear why she even did it. She looked fabulous before, just older. And you can't halt time.

Notwithittoday · 07/03/2022 12:55

There’s definitely something more than normal ageing going on here. First pic was only 7 years ago

It must be really hard when your whole life has revolved around your looks.

Helena Christensen is another who is still stunning but she badly facetunes her pictures (shockingly so for a photographer) so remove her jowls.

It's a procedure that's supposed to melt excess fat, but when it goes wrong it can actually mould the fat into solid lumps on a person's body. And cannot be removed.
GarlandsinGreece · 07/03/2022 13:04

@Notwithittoday, she also had CoolSculpting done on her lower face and neck, which had the opposite reaction and made her face swell, much like the lumps caused on her body.

Copenhagenoffice · 07/03/2022 13:05

StrychnineInTheSandwiches

Lord that just sounds, well like it was bound to go wrong 🤦‍♀️

Copenhagenoffice · 07/03/2022 13:06

No good old fashioned diet and exercise for her then . Must be hard when you have the money to do these things but my what a change in her appearance. She really was fantastically beautiful before

Notwithittoday · 07/03/2022 13:08

@GarlandsinGreece that’s what I mean. I think there’s some women who seem to think she’s just whinging about the normal ageing process. On the other hand, it’s sad she’s being held up as some kind of cautionary tale to women trying to improve their looks.

7 years is quite a long time in terms of looks.

Also, the first pic is a red carpet type appearance, with full professional hair, make up and styling. The other she's just out on the street, wearing glasses, no make up and with her hair pulled back. So I don't think it's a 'like for like' comparison.

Copenhagenoffice · 07/03/2022 13:10

Tbf she does look very very different though

She does, but look at any 'stars without make up' feature and you'll see that these women often look radically different in their 'down time' when compared with red carpet appearances, even without the passage of time.

Also, she'd clearly already had a lot of facial work done in the first picture, so it wasn't 'normal ageing' even then .

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 07/03/2022 13:21

God I can't understand all of this refusing to get old business.
I'm 60 now and was very good looking when I was young, could have been a model but I was too short.
I've grown old and fat and couldn't give a shit, I feel much more relaxed now and happy.
Being beautiful is really hard work and is all you are judged on, there is jealousy, you attract horrible men, you are not taken seriously.
I would hate to have had nothing to fall back on once my looks were gone, as it is I have a professional medical career and lovely friends who don't care what I look like now.

Clarabe1 · 07/03/2022 13:35

You cannot mess with nature. You might get the odd tweak of filler or Botox when wrinkles first appear and yes you might look a bit fresher or younger but eventually over time you will start to look weird. You cannot hold back the tide forever. A 60 year old woman who has had work done looks like just like a 60 year old woman still. I am all for self improvement but don’t think it will make you look younger. That’s down to genes and to some extent lifestyle. I wish it was otherwise, I would be lining up for it! Nobody likes getting old. The menopause is a turning point for many women. You just have to do the best with what you have got but you will never be able to compete with youth and shouldn’t try. If I have to get old I still want to have my dignity!

This really isn't true. You can mess with nature a great deal. And unless you go too far or have poor work, the majority of women could look many years younger if they so chose, through surgery and other procedures. It stands to reason that if you have an operation to return your skin to its pre sagging position, remove age related wrinkles and replace fat loss, if skillfully done, you're going to look more like your younger self. I know several women late 50s and 60s who look years younger after having work done. It's not a case of competing with youth. Super models in their 50s are still far more beautiful than the average 20 year old in the street, as young doesn't automatically mean good looking. It's usually more a case of women disliking some of the changes age and lifestyle bring to their own face and wanting to correct or minimise them.
BusterGonad · 07/03/2022 14:08

I cannot believe that people are still banging on about her just 'getting old'. She's not just got old, she had a procedure that went incredibly wrong. Can no one understand this??? She has the face and body of a supermodel so even if she did just get old she'd look amazing. She's not someone who's overweight and works at the local Newsagent. She was drop dead gorgeous, made millions (I'm guessing) due to her looks. It wasn't her hair or make up in the before photo it was her face and body and now that's ruined. Some people are pretty dim or maybe they're just pleased that she no longer looks so great?

Infinitemoon · 07/03/2022 14:16

I get that and it is terrible what has happened to her, but bad things happen to people all the time. They have a stroke in their 20s, or go blind, have an accident that causes paralysis. What is so special about LE? We put so much worth and importance on someone who literally did well from luck. She now has had some terrible luck. I think she should try to focus on the good things she has and maybe help people not to have some of these invasive procedures.

I believe her. I don't think this is just about ageing.

Developing pockets of fat as a response to CoolSculpting (ie fat freezing) doesn't surprise me. I've heard that liposcution can cause fat deposits in new areas and also deeper fat deposits around organs.

Why anyone would want to mess with that I don't know.

IcedPurple · 07/03/2022 14:21

I do understand it, but all procedures have risks. What happened to her is a rare, but known, side effect of Coolsculpting. She will very likely have signed a waiver prior to having the procedure done. I do feel sorry for her, but no more so than for anyone else unlucky enough to have a cosmetic procedure go badly wrong.

She has the face and body of a supermodel so even if she did just get old she'd look amazing.

But she obviously didn't have the 'body of a supermodel' or she wouldn't have had Coolsculpting done.
