To think Linda Evangelista still looks great?

I've always loved Linda Evangelista and recently read her Instagram posts in which she refers to herself as 'disformed' and I'd really expected her to look completely different. I've just seen some photos of her taken recently and she still looks amazing, she's 56 and whilst not quite the supermodel she once was she's still a really beautiful woman. And whiIe I know if must be different for her as her face was literally her fortune and I'm in no way trying to imply that what she's been through and continues to got through isn't really traumatic for her but more that it's a really sad state of affairs when a woman feels so unattractive and unhappy when she starts to look her age.

@DrSbaitso I’m not a surgeon, so this is all guesswork! But I think I’m correct that you can’t just remove lots of tissue without a sort of ‘hole’ forming, as you can’t keep the skin and stretch it back over the wound. So you would end up with lots of open flesh wounds and they would need covering up with skin from elsewhere. Depending on how many areas and how big they are, she may not even have enough skin to use for grafts.

MoonOnASpoon · 07/03/2022 10:16

I get why Linda Evangelista is so upset. It's not just getting the opposite of what she wanted and having painful effects to live with, but also having to endure the world's scrutiny over cosmetic surgery gone wrong. Most people don't tend to want to broadcast what they've had done, let alone have everyone comparing before and after pics.

Madonna looks extremely odd and unreal. We know how old she is, we know she can't really look like a 20-year-old, so when I see the pics I just wonder what kinds of scary things she keeps doing to herself (besides filters).

Of course it's up to her what she does, but I think she would have been a naturally beautiful older woman.

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2022 10:17

Madonna’s IG reminds me of a film I got part way through with Will Smith digitally recreated as young. It was strange to watch as it was as he was when young

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2022 10:18

Linda E is probably a good reminder procedures have risks so be aware before doing stuff

Iwonder08 · 07/03/2022 10:24

No, she is not beautiful. She looks alright for an average person of her age, but she wasn't an average person. She was uniquely beautiful woman and I can see why she is upset because her looks were her only commodity.

Yes I agree with that. But it's very common, especially among the famous. And things like botox and fillers are widely presented as "looking after yourself" and "doing what makes you happy" etc - but when something goes wrong people say "Oh if only she'd left herself alone" and she must wish that too. It's a bit like there's a whiff of it being a punishment for vanity - but when it doesn't go wrong, there are big rewards for the same vanity.

I've never had any "work done" at all and intend to grow into a proper wrinkly old bat, but I can understand the pressure on her, and I feel really sorry for her.

@zafferana

She looks like a normal, ordinary, 56-year-old woman, which for many women would be completely fine. But she used to lauded as one of the most beautiful people on Earth, she was on the cover of magazines, she was the one who 'didn't get out of bed for less than $10,000'. I think it must be very hard to go from being that, to being utterly ordinary.
Yes, it's kind of like if someone was raised in a palace and then had to move into a suburban semi D. A perfectly fine home, and probably better than what most people have, but that doesn't help if you are not 'most people'.

So while Linda may look fine compared to other women in their 50s, that's not her point of reference. Her point of reference is her decades younger, stunning self.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 07/03/2022 11:18

She looks a bit bloated to be honest. I agree that ageing must be very, very hard when you were very beautiful and younger.

Oh, Christy Turlington has work done, it appears. She looks like she has filler in her lips which gives her the third lip look. Also looks like she has some subtle fillers and botox.

Cindy Crawford fucked with her face, looks like she had surgery around her eyes in particular. Her eyes were hooded but instead she has a squint now. Her eyes are wonky now. And more than a touch of the Marie Osmonds around the eyes.

Helena Christensen looks like she has fillers.
Carla Bruni went hard at the fillers a few years ago.

Kate Moss appears to have had a facelift recently.
Naomi Campbell looks like she has had a lot of fillers, she wears loads of wigs and looks like she has lost a lot of her hair.
Her nose looks a lot different today compared to before. She looks like she had her nose rebuilt. Her nostrils look different now.

The woman could never win. The same as Madonna. Whenever a woman is renowned for her looks, feathers are ruffled, and there's a gleeful rush to point out that she's lost what she once had. If she has procedures, the grow old gracefully camp are out to say she looks unnatural, if she doesn't there's another cohort displaying pictures of her wrinkles. No matter how a woman chooses to age she will be criticised, and typically the more beautiful/sucessful the woman the more spiteful the commentary. I know nothing of LE, but if as some say, she is not a nice person, then perhaps she deserves criticism for her behaviour, but the gloating over her altered appearance is unnecessarily unpleasant.
DrSbaitso · 07/03/2022 11:24

Her issue is less about ageing, as hard as that must be, and more about the botched procedure. The supermodels all still work regularly; they're still very famous and in demand. They've all had work done but while we might not personally like the results, they are what they wanted and they weren't botched.

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2022 11:26

I wouldn’t gloat, not sure which posts this is referring to, but I’d avoid the same brand of procedure she had (not that I’m in the market for any).

Presumably that’s the reason for the article - to warn others about the risks. And the damage it has caused. I feel for her as it’s an alteration that is causing her distress.

Nnique · 07/03/2022 11:28

I’m not gloating either. I fully understand why she felt the pressure to try to keep her body as close as possible to her vision of ‘perfect’.

Was the procedure 'botched' or was Linda unlucky enough to be one of the people suffering from a rare but known side effect of Coolsculpting?
DrSbaitso · 07/03/2022 11:38

"Botched" might be the wrong word. Perhaps it was just an unfortunate side effect.

But she's still upset less about looking naturally older, and more about a procedure that didn't go to plan and left her looking worse than she did before.

I do agree with PPs that there's often a sense of gleefulness about these things.

I'm pretty sure the "I don't get out of bed" comment was meant as a joke.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/03/2022 11:57

Christy Turlington looks amazing. She doesn’t seem to have had anything done, not even botox. So her face is lined but still as beautiful as it always was.

I think after her modelling days she went back to university and then founded a charity supporting maternity health in developing countries. Basically had interests beyond her own image.

I do feel sorry for Linda though. When you’re used to every head in the room turning to look at you, becoming more ordinary looking must be an adjustment.

What makes you so sure?

How about “It was God who made me so beautiful. If I weren't, then I'd be a teacher.”

Was that a 'joke' too?

DrSbaitso · 07/03/2022 12:18

What makes you so sure?

I think I remember reading somewhere that she meant it as a throwaway joke. And I think she made a crack about scriptwriters stealing the line in Mr and Mrs Smith. Also, it's always just sounded to me like a bit of a glib one liner, like John Lennon saying the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. I might be wrong.

How about “It was God who made me so beautiful. If I weren't, then I'd be a teacher.” Was that a 'joke' too?

Possibly. I really don't know. I've never heard that line nor met the woman. Ask her.

It isn't something to which I've dedicated a huge amount of time or thought. It sounds as though you have, so I'm happy to bow to your superior knowledge.

If this is an attempt at a dig, it's a poor one.

You seem to have dedicated enough 'time and thought' to the subject to be aware of 'cracks' she allegedly made about her comment, as well as to form an opinion as to the 'glib one liner' nature of said comment.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 07/03/2022 12:24
Christy Turlington on Why at 51 She'll Never Have Any Work Done
The word "work" for CT may not have the same meaning as "work" for you and me.

Some of these ones do not regard subtle fillers and botox as "work".
They only regard brow lifts or facelifts as "work".

The third lip is strong with CT.

IcedPurple · 07/03/2022 12:28

@GiantHaystacks2021 I think a lot of celebrities only consider 'work' to be 'work' when a scalpel and general anesthetic is involved but these days, most 'procedures' are much less invasive.

I do agree that Turlington has had botox and fillers at the very least. Which is absolutely fine, but I don't think it's true to suggest that she's completely au naturel. Very few famous women over the age of 40 or so are.

5128gap · 07/03/2022 12:29

I'm not sure why the teacher comment is so offensive? Is it not just a statement of fact that had she not had the looks to become a model she would have had a different job? It's not disrespectful to teachers to acknowledge that her looks made it possible for her to have a more glamorous and lucrative career than theirs. Its stating the obvious really.

You asked why I thought it was a joke. I told you. I'm sorry if the answer to your question offends you.

I would love to spend the rest of the day arguing with you about who cares more about everything Linda Evangelista has ever said to the press and how much of their headspace it takes up. It sounds really exciting.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 07/03/2022 12:32

She says she'll never do anything 'chemical'. I believe her. I have pretty good eye for spotting botox and she doesn't appear to have any.
