Waitrose

Just tried the 'new offers' on Waitrose. You have download the offers at home but then scan to scan a QR code at the til point and click into a coupon for every offer. Surely they could put the offers directly into your Waitrose Card like M&S Sparks Card does?
Given John Lewis is on a downward track - surely making shopping difficult at Waitrose won't help keep customers. Anybody else found this as unnecessarily complicated?

Thanks @smogsville! I didn't go last week but was surprised when I got last week's vouchers which run out today to work alongside the new vouchers!

Fairisleflora · 27/04/2022 14:57

I used to shop at Waitrose every week but stopped since they stopped the newspaper. I went in yesterday as I still have a Waitrose credit card and had £20 of earned gift tokens to spend. The till took ages as the two people in front of me were elderly and struggling with the app to try to save money with the vouchers.

vjg13 · 11/05/2022 13:43

Went to a smaller branch today, didn't buy the products and the check out lady said I had to go back and get them or have the coupons refused, will have to have her sacked! JOKING! I think it was a rookie error with a small amount of shopping on my behalf and getting a bit cocky!

smogsville · 12/05/2022 14:30

@vjg13 do you mean the vouchers didn’t work as you were buying different products? OMG. Is our lovely scam over?

I came on here to recommend that everyone get their partners on board too. It didn’t occur to me until a friend said she’d taken her husband’s card and vouchers (with his consent!) and used them too, but of course DH has his own voucher allocation, so he’s now signed up too.

vjg13 · 12/05/2022 14:37

Hi @smogsville! The vouchers worked fine and were deducted but the check out lady made a huge fuss that I hadn't bought the products and so would be removing them. I had only bought about £25 of shopping and the vouchers were for £8.50

It wasn't my usual branch and I do normally buy more so it is less obvious. Shamed by the super strict Alderley Edge check out lady! I will continue to fight the good fight at my usual branch! Wink

StCharlotte · 12/05/2022 14:52

Having missed my bus thanks to the poor woman ahead of me struggling with these vouchers, it's a no from me.

If I'm that desperate to save money, I'll cross the road and go to Morrisons.

smogsville · 12/05/2022 15:10

@vjg13 thanks for the clarification. We all need to be sticking to the self-checkout from now on, don't we!

BooseysMom · 12/05/2022 20:35

Noooo!!! Don’t say it's over!
I used all my vouchers in one shop when they came in the post as I can't always get a connection in the store and now I don't have any on my app. But I do find that they let me have anything as long asit's related to the voucher. eg. they let me use the confectionary one for choc biscuits and I had even used another confectionary one for something that you would call confectionary, ie chocolate! So two confectionary vouchers in one shop!

vjg13 · 13/05/2022 08:17

I was very unlucky to find the only strict check out person in existence!

smogsville · 13/05/2022 09:46

@vjg13 it must have been quite a traumatic experience actually! Hope you're ok now 💐

@BooseysMom you can go totally 'out of category'. Just took DH to show him how it's done. We got £3.50 off tonight's curry deal using his £2 pizza voucher and a £1.50 biscuits one (using self-checkout to avoid detection).

@StCharlotte a fair point, but there's no Morrisons (or equivalent) that's convenient for me on way back from school run to home in time to start work. For me, the vouchers help to mitigate the Waitrose price premium, so it's win-win.

vjg13 · 13/05/2022 11:52

@smogsville It was quite funny really, the Waitrose lady got very shirty and had her hands on her hips at one point!

Self check out on the small shops from now on!

smogsville · 13/05/2022 12:33

@vjg13 absolutely! Keep flying under the radar.

Blimey! That's unbelievable. They always check that I've got everything the vouchers say I must have! Apart from the occasional stray like the choc biscuit bars for the confectionary voucher!

Poppyblush · 19/05/2022 12:44

I don’t get vouchers - apparently I don’t shop there enough!!!

BooseysMom · 26/05/2022 06:51

Update...I don't get any online vouchers any more! I had a load come through the post (which I didn't request as I have managed to battle and succeed with the app) so I spent them in one go I think there were £8 worth and now I don't get any weekly ones come thru on my app. I expected this might happen but this was months ago and I'm still not getting any thru. Has anyone else found the same?

Courante · 26/05/2022 07:20

We're still using the app vouchers fine (thanks to this thread)! Yesterday DH and I went shopping together and used £14 worth (£5 + £4 of mine and £3 + £2 of DH's - I don't think we actually bought any of the items the vouchers we for though). DS (17) also has the app and his best vouchers are £1.50 and £2 this week. Definitely reflective of how often we shop in there respectively and what we buy - DS probably goes in once, maybe twice, a week on average with his GF and picks up what they went for dinner and any bits I ask him to get for the house (we pay him back, but it is a small shop).
How often do you shop in there @BooseysMom?

Courante · 26/05/2022 07:22

Should add I always use the quickcheck self scanner

WatermelonSugarEye · 26/05/2022 07:46

Ain't nobody got time for this!
They've really pissed me off with their complicated rules. Unless they've sent me the £16 off a £120 shop, I don't ventue in now.

BooseysMom · 26/05/2022 08:17

Courante

I always do a big weekly shop then pop in for a few other bits in the week. I spend far more than I should really. DH doesn't know as he leaves it all to me so he just has to suck it up!* *😅

smogsville · 26/05/2022 11:48

@Courante you're this week's champion.

Fairly unimpressive voucher haul for Casa Smogsville this week. A fiver off for me, just £3.50 for DH. Bring back the days of the four consecutive weeks of £4.50 parmesan discounts! Then again, it's not our main shop so it's not unreasonable, I have obviously just become spoilt and greedy.

TheDogsMother · 26/05/2022 14:10

I just used the vouchers and app in store yesterday. It was my first time and what a bloody faff. Surely if you choose your vouchers then choose those same items in your shop it could be automatically deducted. The cashier actually asked me if I had those items in my shop so presumably I just say and pick up any item ? Either way it seems really badly executed.

Courante · 27/05/2022 14:24

Thank you - I was very pleased with our £17.50 off this week!

I can't think why you're not getting them @BooseysMom - you're definitely spending more than my DS and DH do in WR. I would contact them.

User7493268965 · 27/05/2022 17:47

I just print mine off each week as my phone often doesn't work that well in Waitrose and it's a bit of a faff, the vouchers for the papers are on a different page which makes it even more difficult to find, I don't know why they can't be all together.

BurscoughBooths · 27/05/2022 19:03

You don’t need to print vouchers, or try to find the right page on the app in store.
Screen shot the vouchers you want to use, they scan perfectly at the till. Then delete

Murdoch1949 · 28/05/2022 01:15

I get my weekly shop from Waitrose, and the new My Waitrose offers annoy me too. I’m sure there will be people who can’t find them, so just go without. The ‘free newspaper’ about which many of us made a fuss months ago, is offered to me as one of my 3 vouchers every week, so what was that all about? The other vouchers are linked to your purchases and can be worth £2.50 each. New offers are uploaded on a Wednesday as well, so I have to remember to update my next weekend’s order. Rant over.
