Waitrose

Just tried the 'new offers' on Waitrose. You have download the offers at home but then scan to scan a QR code at the til point and click into a coupon for every offer. Surely they could put the offers directly into your Waitrose Card like M&S Sparks Card does?
Given John Lewis is on a downward track - surely making shopping difficult at Waitrose won't help keep customers. Anybody else found this as unnecessarily complicated?

Well from having several free newspapers per week, usually worth about £7 to me but about £18 if I went for a paper every day, I was offered 50p off 2 of 6 items so £1, yes a massive £1 per week!

For that privilege I have to download the app, then choose the two items I want which may or may not be in stock, then download the coupons and then present them at the checkout.
When I went in this week and was asked to present my card I said I wasn't going to bother in future as the new scheme isn't worth the hassle. The partner said I wasn't the first person to complain. Surprise, surprise!
Waitrose has long been my supermarket of choice but without any incentives to shop there I'll be less like to pop in and spend. Who came up with this idea? Total mistake for a supermarket which will struggle as the cost of living increases.

mrsrobin · 01/03/2022 19:11

Far too much of a faff for me too. I had a word with a staff member on Sunday at Waitrose and they said everyone thought the same. Bring back the paper and coffee - I think it's a poor show getting rid of them.

TristesseDurera · 01/03/2022 19:22

Agree. I am so pissed off they stopped doing the paper. The Sunday Times was a huge bonus for shopping there.

StoneofDestiny · 01/03/2022 19:24

Yes, losing the paper has shot them in the foot. I'd pop in there to get that and top it up to £10 with a bottle of wine or something. I'll be going less often and may just swap to M&S as their money off deals at least are on the card!

Be nice if Waitrose responded to this dissatisfaction.

I'm struggling as well chose two items @ 50 p off and didn't realize they weren't automatically added until l got a letter in the post telling me to use the QR code download choose 2 and then at the end of it 0 available, so confusing tried again still telling me I have 2 vouchers 0 available and that even before going into the store.
I use the barcode thingie and it didn't seem that I could use that to get my so-called discounts.
Absolutely no incentive to shop.

Braithwaite37 · 01/03/2022 19:31

I think the new newspaper offer is very generous as you literally get a free paper even if you don't buy anything else. Previously I only got the paper on Saturday as that was the only time I spent £10, now I get a free paper every day! I also haven't had any trouble downloading & using the vouchers.

saraclara · 01/03/2022 19:42

It's a PR disaster. I had every problem going, from not having a signal in the store, to the item I'd chosen at home now being in stock, to now having a clue where to scan the code on my phone (turns out it's at an unsigned area behind and underneath the card reader).

Like a pp, the checkout supervisor told me to complain, I did, and got an email back that seemed to think I was complaining about something else (I wasn't complaining about the newspaper thing, just the meanness of showing me six offers and telling me I can only have two of them, and the farce of what you have to go through to save 50p on a couple of things.

I've shopped less at Waitrose than I usually do since I got the new offers (I was in the randomly selected trial group that had them for a month before everyone else). Tesco has benefited from the Waitrose 'deals'.

jamandmarmaladeoncrumpets · 01/03/2022 19:44

Since they dropped the newspaper offer didn't like their bitter free filter coffee anyway we no longer bother with Waitrose

Was far less interested whrn the faffy offers and QR codes bollocks came in.

Sticking with Sainsbury's and Aldi and Co-Op for now

Bye-bye Waitrose...

not all of us want a smartphone !!

@ISmellBurnings

My local Waitrose closed down, so I get annoyed when they post me the offers as I can’t bloody shop there (only went there for the free coffee anyway…).
Mine too - was a great store! Never had the coffee though. Grin

They should just be honest and say

“The only point of having a loyalty card is the magazine and scan as you shop, take it or leave it”.

And you wonder why it closed down.
Inanun2 · 01/03/2022 20:02

I have just been tonight and had exactly the same conversation with customer services.
I had downloaded 2 offers and assumed it would work like everywhere else ie Boots & M&S but noticed my £1.00 had not come off my shopping to be informed I should have scanned it before I paid.
Who thought that up ! How ridiculous.

I too miss my weekend newspaper, I honestly think they should have kept it but increased the spend to qualify to £40.00 or more.
I would have been happy if they did that for coffees too rather than stop for their shoppers.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/03/2022 20:10

I always sho online, I chose my offer (£2 off cat food) then found the item was not available . I will have to do my online shop, then choose best vouchers, go back into online shop and apply. It’s a faff but will take about £3?off the bill, which is handy as it’s the same amount as the delivery surcharge.

How do you get free newspapers everyday? (Shoplifting? 😱😱)

I've not been offered any more than 50p off anything so far! What am i doing wrong?
TakeMe2Insanity · 01/03/2022 20:43

Oh gosh i’ve just browsed the offers, really not worth the effort.

Fastforwardtospring · 01/03/2022 20:50

I wonder if they’ve stopped the 20% off a £40 spend vouchers, I used to get these to entice me back, I always pick up a few things each week but I don’t always present my MyWaitrose card so they are not tracking my visits so I certainly won’t bother now as the vouchers, 6 weeks worth at a time were very useful.

A few Exec's have come over to waitrose from the Co-op and brought their awful members offers idea with them 😭😭😭😭😭

ButtockUp · 01/03/2022 21:53

The Waitrose card is basically redundant now.
My poor old man doesn't have a smart phone or a computer, yet she blindly carries on presenting her card.
She gets no offers or coupons but carries on , in the hope.
It really is a pointless points card.

AWavyLine · 01/03/2022 21:58

Have never understood the point of the card. Our local Waitrose (rightly) didn't offer free newspapers due to local issues- is it good for anything else?
