Waitrose

Just tried the 'new offers' on Waitrose. You have download the offers at home but then scan to scan a QR code at the til point and click into a coupon for every offer. Surely they could put the offers directly into your Waitrose Card like M&S Sparks Card does?
Given John Lewis is on a downward track - surely making shopping difficult at Waitrose won't help keep customers. Anybody else found this as unnecessarily complicated?

Hasn't the free paper gone?

smogsville · 07/04/2022 12:54

@woodhill re the free paper - yes it went, but I then received an email saying we've noticed you buy the times, you can have it back. And now there's a 'newspapers' tab in the vouchers section of the phone app. It gives me a voucher for the times to use every day. And I don't even need to buy anything I could just waltz in, put a paper through the till using the voucher and leave. It's ridiculous given that you used to have to spend a tenner.

@BarbaraofSeville re how did I work it out about the vouchers working for different items - because the process of using the vouchers is quire complicated, I ended up going through the FAQs which say that if something is out of stock once you're in store having already picked your two vouchers, you can just get something else in the same 'category' instead. I then wondered if the product the voucher was for actually had to be out of stock for this to work, so downloaded a voucher for a bottle of (in stock) port and used it against a bottle of white wine, it worked. Since then I've used cheese vouchers for any kind of dairy, a granola voucher for cereal and mince meat voucher for chicken. I pick the two highest value vouchers they offer me each week and buy what I want.

@Lolabalola yes you're right I ought to be careful but I'm drunk on the discounts now, there's no hope for me. Defo self checkout!

Newestname002 · 07/04/2022 23:23

@BarbaraofSeville

You're only allowed two vouchers, but at least it asks you if you're sure you want it now. The first time, I clicked on the first two vouchers not realising you could only have two, and then it wouldn't even let me look at the others.

Yes - that's REALLY annoying. I hope that's something which Waitrose will change - and that they are reading customer feedback - particularly Mumsnet for unvarnished comments - on these vouchers. 🌹

BooseysMom · 08/04/2022 02:26

@smogsville... WHAT?! Sorry didn't mean to shout but this is amazing!! I will try that when I go today. I just hope they continue it. At first I thought no no no, not downloading things!! But now I'm sold!

lemongreentea · 08/04/2022 02:28

Dont have a local waitrose anymore so use Asda which isuvh better imo

smogsville · 08/04/2022 18:10

@BooseysMom let us know how you get on!

thelastgreatdynasty · 08/04/2022 18:14

I agree, I won't bother shopping there anymore. They're not particularly competitive anyway and all of the perks have gone.

Fairyarmpits · 08/04/2022 18:20

It works for me. I got £6 off two items this week.

I find the items I want in store then choose them on my phone. I use the scanner thing and scan the bar code on my phone at the end. It's not hard.

It's no good for my 83 year old Mum though.

BooseysMom · 09/04/2022 13:50

@smogsville . Well I was able to use a £1.50 voucher for cheese and I chose the Davidstow which was already on offer so only paid £1.50 for a 350g slab! Then I used the £2 voucher for a large pie which was £4 so got it for £2. I know that wasn't getting something similar and still being able to use the voucher but it was still good and something I wanted!

I'm always getting slayed by family for shopping at waitrose but I don't care and tbh am fed up of having to defend my choices. I still get good offers there and they've even re-opened the cafe!

smogsville · 14/04/2022 08:44

@BooseysMom

I'm glad about your cheese/ pie triumph but I am winning. I just used a £4.50 Parmesan voucher and a £2.50 teabag one against an Easter egg, it works. The lesson seems to be just choose the highest value vouchers each week and then buy whatever you want.

@vjg13 no alarms sounded at the self checkout, I am free for the moment.

longwayoff · 14/04/2022 10:10

O thank you smogsville I'm back on board with the vouchers then.

vjg13 · 15/04/2022 07:43

@smogsville Well done! Last time I shopped there the check out lady asked how I found it and I said how crap it was, she said there had been lots of complaints so I don't think they'll be clamping down on the loop holes and risk further wraith!

smogsville · 15/04/2022 14:46

Thanks @vjg13 and @longwayoff and a very happy Easter to everyone!

longwayoff · 15/04/2022 14:51

Easter Smile to all with a vouchered egg

BigWoollyJumpers · 15/04/2022 14:56

I have been using them on my on-line shop, no issues. I always choose the biggest vouchers, and it's for stuff I always buy anyway. So, the last few weeks I have always had £5 off my shop. Pays for the delivery now...... now that DID piss me off, introducing a delivery charge, as that was their USP.

BooseysMom · 18/04/2022 13:57

I was recently singing Waitrose's praises for coming up with this system but this week I wasn't able to download any of the vouchers at the till. This after saying to the partner that its great cos I always manage to download the vouchers!! Not happy with them at all now Sad

smogsville · 20/04/2022 13:00

that's very irritating @BooseysMom

the system is definitely not very intuitive. Goodness knows who they got to build it. Once again this week I have the vouchers for £4.50 off parmesan and £2.50 off tea bags (how much parmesan/ tea do they think I eat/ drink!). I'll just be using both vouchers to get money off whatever shopping I decide I need.

BooseysMom · 23/04/2022 09:35

smogsville... I know but this week I was able to download both. I made sure I had a connection before I went in and then when the dreaded moment came (!) I pressed the button to say use in store or at the till or whatever and it worked. Then you have to go back and select another one and that was when i thought this won't work but it did! So they both were scanned!
The only bad thing I noticed was they were for £1 each so there were no £1.50 or £2 ones available.

Lolabalola · 23/04/2022 10:34

@smogsville , will be joining you in Waitrose prison, it works 😝

Biggest issue was navigating self service checkout as also had paper voucher and was very confusing as to where to scan all the voucher bits but luckily there was an off duty till lady shopping next door and she took pity on me 😎
Thank you for the tip

vjg13 · 23/04/2022 10:43

I screen shot the vouchers and card and then scan those and it works fine and is quicker.

smogsville · 25/04/2022 13:01

Good work everyone, keep it up.

vjg13 · 27/04/2022 12:50

Major success story to report... today used last week's and this week's vouchers to get £16.50 off. The check out man was suitably impressed! Only 1 voucher of the 4 was for a product I bought too! Wink

Courante · 27/04/2022 13:53

Well I guess it is better than the paper vouchers (hated those) but still a faff and I probably won't remember. I'm just back from WR and completely forgot, thankfully I didn't actually buy any of the items in the my offers section this time. I would much rather it was simply points based and there was no remember involved on my part, or they at least got automatically applied...

Courante · 27/04/2022 13:57

Long may this loophole stay then - seems on further reading I just overpaid £8 for my shopping (still I'm sure to be back before Wed...)!

smogsville · 27/04/2022 14:37

@vjg13 you're this week's champion 🏆

I got a mere £5.50 off today by using the highest price pizza and chicken vouchers available for bread, milk, bananas and a few other bits and bobs.
