The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

He’s got balls of steel and was apparently the voice for Paddington bear

OdeToSadDisco · 28/02/2022 08:17

Yes I'm really impressed by what I'm hearing of him too. He was previously a comedian and it seems Putin vastly underestimated him.

thepeopleversuswork · 28/02/2022 08:19

With all the usual caveats about never trusting propaganda of any kind and the Ukrainians seem to be pretty good at this yes its hard not to be impressed by his courage and his savvy. If nothing else he's definitely winning the propaganda wall.

The Ukrainians in general seem to have balls of steel. I am pretty awed by their courage.

thepeopleversuswork · 28/02/2022 08:19

Propaganda war not wall! FFS

MsTSwift · 28/02/2022 08:21

I fear for him the Russians want to kill him.

GirlInACountrySong · 28/02/2022 08:22

I just heard his speech in Russian

Saying bomb what? What am I supposed to bomb? The town I had dinner with friends in, the town my best friend mother lives in etc

I know it's only tik tok but some are really moving, especially the show of support from all the European capital cities, the people gathered with flags etc and the football got to me too. Standing ovation for Ukraine players that made them cry 🇺🇦

Then the grilling of the captured Russian soldier who has little clue what he's there for, he's a kid, 21.

GirlInACountrySong · 28/02/2022 08:23

@MsTSwift

I fear for him the Russians want to kill him.

'I don't want a ride, I need ammunition'

If they do they have the rest of Europe's contempt for eternity. Russia will be shunned entirely

MaggieMooh · 28/02/2022 08:37

He’s incredibly brave and has my complete respect for standing up for his country instead of running away. Apparently Russia intends to assassinate him, I hope by some miracle he stays safe.

MsTSwift · 28/02/2022 08:40

Can’t really imagine one of the worlds super powers actively wanting me personally dead. Puts my day to day worries into perspective!

Fakenamefornow · 28/02/2022 08:45

Yanbu
I admit, I rolled my eyes when the Ukrainians elected a comedian, but he's been brilliant through this. I wonder if his family got out?

teaandchocolate1 · 28/02/2022 08:46

I admire and respect him, but at the same time I'm so worried for him and his family.

It's clear as day that Putin would like nothing more to take him out to demoralise the Ukrainian people.

womaninatightspot · 28/02/2022 08:47

I was really impressed by him too. Massive balls of steel on that man. Can you imagine UK in a similar situation? Boris having a last minute release telling us to pull to together and be strong whilst heading out the door to set up a war cabinet somewhere else.

showmethegin · 28/02/2022 08:48

Just shows the difference between someone like him, who people didn't take seriously because of his celebrity "background", and the kind of self interested, corrupt, career "politicians" we have here.

Zelenskyy appears to have more bravery, integrity and understanding of his people than ours have in their little fingers.

Hoppinggreen · 28/02/2022 08:49

That’s what an actual leader looks like.
The Foreign minister is pretty impressive too.
I think what Putin forgets is that Ukrainians have lived in The USSR and have now had freedom and they know what they prefer
As for Balls of steel - my geography might be a bit off here but aren’t these people descended from The Cossacks?

showmethegin · 28/02/2022 08:50

*zelenskyy has more in his little finger!

Long night apologies!

forcedfun · 28/02/2022 08:53

Agree. This is leadership.

But more importantly, the Ukrainians in general have impressed me endlessly. Their tenacity and bravery, whether standing up to fight or sheltering with their children. My heart is with them right now.

Fakenamefornow · 28/02/2022 08:58

Compare this to our 'leadership' none stop parties while people are banned from attending funerals.

Nightlystroll · 28/02/2022 09:01

As I understand it, he was not a great president and struggled to action the election promises he made. He was losing popularity. But I think he's been an amazing leader during this war. He's been front and central the whole time. Even his critics are full of praise for him. And just to add the previous president, Poroshenko, is also out fighting with the civilian defence force.

BigGreen · 28/02/2022 09:02

Likewise, his bravery and smarts have been a particularly stark contrast with Boris, whose attempts at macho leadership are failing due to massive Russian influence in the Tory party. I have got so much respect for Zelenskiy.

You can't compare the pandemic with this

2 completely different things

KevinTurvysGravy · 28/02/2022 09:08

So much braver than our fridge hiding joke of a PM (and much more handsome)

Boris is a bit of a buffoon but I don’t think you can question his looks! There are lots of people who agree that he’s one of the most handsome PMs we’ve had. I have fantasies about sucking his eyebrows Blush
