The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

Yes. He could have capitulated.

RhubardCrumble · 02/03/2022 07:17

@DropYourSword

Yes I guess it could have caused issues.
But what issues could be worse than thousands of innocent people being murdered?

Jackjack0962 · 02/03/2022 07:59

@echt

Yes. He could have capitulated.
Hmm and then where does it stop. Putin will just continue moving west. Does everyone just give in to one man?

Thousands more being murdered because they're under an oppressive dictatorship of a madman

@DropYourSword
"Thousands more being murdered because they're under an oppressive dictatorship of a madman"

Where's the evidence for that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not standing up for Putin, at all, but that statement is a bit wild.

I don’t think it is. You just have to listen to the behavioural analysts and military experts to find that the majority of them have assessed his actions as not being those of a sane person. The ones who haven’t are just too nervous to say it.

TuesdaySmoozday · 02/03/2022 09:51

Who are the thousands he was going to murder?

If ukraine didn't say they wanted to be part of Nato and be part of Europe, Russia would not of invaded. Then no one dies. No one dies.

That's my very simple opinion.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 09:53

If Ukraine capitulated, Finland and Sweden were (are?) next.

cushioncovers · 02/03/2022 09:57

Yes. He could have capitulated.

You don't just roll over when someone wants to invade your country, what a ridiculous thing to say. Putin is entirely in the wrong here.

MimosaPiqueNique · 02/03/2022 10:01

If anyone follows Rosie Holt on twitter, she shared a funny clip this morning from one of Zelensky’s shows. I think we’re allowed a thread of admiration for a leader who has shown such grit and determination in defending his country, we’re not used to that.

Meanwhile Boris has failed to sanction Putins pal Abramovich which has given him the opportunity to sell his London property fortune and liquidate his assets.

HadaVerde · 02/03/2022 10:32

Yeah what a great guy woo!

Nationalistic and has a neo nazi battalion in the Ukrainian home guard.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Battalion

The circle jerking over Zelenskyy shows how well propaganda works.

This. There’s no way Putin would stop at Ukraine if the people there just rolled over. He’d keep going until he met resistance.
TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 12:40

I think his jewishness also played a role in his refusal to capitulate. His family was almost completely wiped out by the Nazis for being Jews.Sad

Or accepted offers for a safe route out of the country for himself to lead a war cabinet from a remote location. Which you know our UK government would have done without question or hesitation.

I’ve spent some considerable time trying to find articles seeing how much of a diabolacle person Zelensky is, but I’m not really finding any.

I realise propaganda exists but I think we KNOW Putin is in the wrong here, and the fact that Zelensky is staying out and fighting for his country shows a lot more finesse than the wanker we have in charge of things who repeatedly laughed at all of us while he partied away behind closed doors during lockdown. On numerous occasions.

I think that’s what this thread represents.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 17:19

That's a Ukrainian battalion who have been fighting since the 2014 invasion. Zelensky won the presidency in 2019, he did not form them and is not to blame for their existence.

His Jewishness and family history is well known @HadaVerde.

TristesseDurera · 02/03/2022 18:20

@HadaVerde Who is paying you? It's transparent.

Barney60 · 02/03/2022 19:25

Totally agree, total respect for him.
Amusing he played a president now he is the president.

He is clearly ok with their existence or they wouldn’t be part of the Ukrainian military.

I’m genuinely surprised at people being ok with a branch of a countries military being openly nazi.

This is a bizarre post.

Nothing I have said is untrue.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 22:31

Oh catch yourself on @HadaVerde. The guy became president in 2019. His country had already been suffering war for 5 years. Covid hit a year later.🙄 He's admirable, but he's not a miracle worker.

By contrast, the Conservatives have been in power here for over a decade and still criticism is met with "But Labour".Hmm

HadaVerde · 02/03/2022 22:36

The casual dismissal of actual Nazis in a military unit is something I didn’t think I’d see that’s for sure!

Catch on yourself.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2022 23:24

What would you have done @HadaVerde? How exactly would you have disbanded, then replaced a key defensive battalion who are fighting the enemy on your soil and have been since the invasion, when you are only known for being a comedian?

As I said, He's admirable, not a miracle worker.

bemusedmoose · 03/03/2022 10:47

Boris - attractive?? he's not only an idiot but reminds me of Baron von Greenback from Danger mouse! Smiley ugly toad that he is.

The Ukraine however have struck gold with theirs. Balls of still and actually has a clue about real life and does actually 'get things done' unlike Bozo he is all talk and no action. We'd be screwed if we were in Ukraine's shoes with twat face at the helm - he'd b#gger off on holiday, miss all the meetings then get caught partying while everyone else was bunkered down in the tube tunnels.
