To have huge admiration for the Ukrainian president?

The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

He's very brave considering the Russians have sent hitmen after him and his family now.
Also several Ukrainian multi millionaire sports stars such as world class boxers are fighting in the army.

He's certainly making an impression in this house. I with any of our politicians were half as admirable.

Yes *@nightlystroll* . . . my post was not an instruction to all future governments, just some thoughts running through my head. The answer to those questions might be yes, no or qualified. These are things we should be thinking about, instead of just whether to vote for X party or Y party. Also, the world of politics is not just confined to England.

Fair enough. Sometimes we can take one instance and then try to impose it on all situations. Zelensky and Macron are the same age. I don't get anywhere near the same vibe, though. And Trump was 70 and had no loyalty to any party or indeed anyone. But I do think he did what he thought was best for America, he was just horrible and inadequate. In fact Trump is a prime example of how hard it is to be a president without a political background. He just didn't have the breadth of contacts needed to fill the govt positions that fall vacant with the election of a new president. And he didn't have long standing political contacts that are necessary to get deals done across party lines.

I’m absolutely amazed that some people on this thread still think a) Boris has done a ‘good job’ and b) that he is ‘handsome’ 🤮 This place is full of loons! Agree Ukrainian spirit is incredible.

Boris is a bit of a buffoon but I don’t think you can question his looks! There are lots of people who agree that he’s one of the most handsome PMs we’ve had. I have fantasies about sucking his eyebrows

I was really impressed by him too. Massive balls of steel on that man. Can you imagine UK in a similar situation? Boris having a last minute release telling us to pull to together and be strong whilst heading out the door to set up a war cabinet somewhere else.

😂 Yeah his press release would have been him speaking to us in Russian before bending over for Putin. If that's what you mean...

@Nightlystroll - fair point, I get what you're saying. I'm just at the start of really considering these things so don't have any real answers but current events do get your mind to thinking. The world seems to be in a sad state at the moment and we are so pathetically devoid of real leadership = maybe thats why this guy has really caught the attention of the world (especially when contrasted with Mr Putin).

@Lobelia123. Yes, it certainly puts everything into perspective. I was moaning about a broken fence panel the other day! Now I'm just grateful there were no bullet holes in it. It's good that we reflect on politicians and what we want from them. Sadly, it's my experience we just return to the same old. And I think politicians in democracies will just get worse and worse because no one with any sense would put themselves under the spotlight of 24hr social media criticism.

A true leader. Any of our politicians would fall very far short of him.

I agree that the extraordinary courage and leadership of the Ukrainian President highlights what we are lacking in the West. Compare him with Joe Biden, for example, whose offer of help was to offer him a 'free ride' out. It tells you everything you need to know about both men.

And as for Johnson, full of rhetoric, as he hides behind those huge, ridiculous flags, in similar circumstances, I have little doubt that he would be on the first plane out. Perhaps we get the leaders we deserve.

The bravery and determination of the Ukranians is truly humbling and awe inspiring.

Compare this to our 'leadership' none stop parties while people are banned from attending funerals.

Or successive German Chancellors cozying up to Russia and strengthening their trade relationships with them at the expense of Ukraine and other former Soviet countries.

This is so true. And the thing that makes me smile. Putin is desperate and pathetic. The more he tries to exert power, the more feeble and cowardly he looks. And deep down he must know this.

I hope Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people go down in history for toppling Putin.

He's being incredibly brave. I do fear for him though.
