The man seems quite incredible. I didn’t know much about him until now but he seems incredibly brave and intelligent. Was just reading an article about how he has been tirelessly and successfully speaking to western leaders to get stiffer sanctions and support implemented, I really hope he remains safe.

He's amazing isn't he!

greenlynx · 28/02/2022 09:16

Yes, he is showing true leadership in this situation.
I was a bit curious and googled, it turned out that he’s got law degree from one of the leading Ukrainian universities. He was taken part in popular university performing movement quite successfully and then moved to performing sector. So I would say he was a businessman as well before presidency.

Lobelia123 · 28/02/2022 09:17

When I saw the pics of him and his ministers standing together, I did think....is this what happens when you (1) elect non-career politicians - you get a different sort of person and a different mindset/set of values eg loyalty to country not party and (2) elect younger officials - not 70 year old men who are running out of principles and energy?? Dont know the answer to these musings, but it did get me to thinking.

GirlInACountrySong · 28/02/2022 09:18

@Lobelia123

Yes I agree with that.

CurzonDax · 28/02/2022 09:20

I have a lot of admiration for him - he has had lots of chances to run (even in the days leading up to the invasion, it was clear to him what was about to happen), but he never has. He is fighting alongside his people, for his country. He seems the majority of his team are, as well as the previous president too. Civilians taking up arms ... To be honest with you, they've all behaved in a way that I'm not sure I would have the strength to, if I was in the same situation.

I do wonder about his family though. I imagine that nothing has been said about where they are/what they are doing (fighting etc) for their own protection. I hope we'll be able to hear the news, in the upcoming weeks and months, that they are also okay.

Are you talking about sukcing Boris or Zelenskyy eyebrows Confused🤢🤣

Wasn't Trump a non-career politician? When did we last have a 70yo pm?

Boris. I’ve always had a thing for him Blush
TheVolturi · 28/02/2022 09:25

Boris, handsome? Are you on glue? 🤣🤣🤣

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 28/02/2022 09:25

He is brave, charismatic and a true leader. Incredibly impressive.

(In passing, am amazed that anyone has swallowed the story that Johnson has been leading the way on sanctions!)

Cognoscenti · 28/02/2022 09:25

@Fakenamefornow

Yanbu I admit, I rolled my eyes when the Ukrainians elected a comedian, but he's been brilliant through this. I wonder if his family got out?
He recently said, in a video, that his family are still in Ukraine. His wife is definitely still there.
Pizzadreams · 28/02/2022 09:26

He’s becoming a global hero, the fact he has stayed in like this, when he could have ran, is what’s partially helped motivate the Ukrainian people to pick up arms and fight. I’m also super impressed with the Ukrainian people. They are so brave, people who have never handled a gun before are being weaponised and protecting their country. Collectively they are the reason Putin is in such a mess right now.

The issue is if Putin does manage to kill him now the global outcry and rage will be so much more than it was four days ago.

Crimesean · 28/02/2022 09:26

His wife and children are still in Ukraine Sad

I'm so impresses by how Ukraine had held out - I thought it'd be over in a day, but it's really not going Russia's way at all.

That's pretty worrying too, as Putin will be desperate to save face - what will he do next?

Woolybear · 28/02/2022 09:26

Incredibly brave. ♥️

Octomore · 28/02/2022 09:41

Boris' eyebrows.... really? The thought of that makes me want to throw up my breakfast.

teaandchocolate1 · 28/02/2022 09:43

Lighthearted, but can't believe that some people fancy Boris Johnson.

The thought of him naked.....

🤮🤮🤮

mum2jakie · 28/02/2022 09:43

He's amazing. Such stoicism and integrity. Absolutely pisses over our current leadership. Joker Johnson - you'd think he was the ex-comedian not the other way round. Wish I felt so inspired and proud of our own politicians.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 28/02/2022 09:43

Let's hope, when this is all over, that our politicians learn something from this man and take a good hard look at themselves and how they should be leading and representing the country.

Oh don’t, makes me all weak at the knees thinking about it (and I’ve thought about it a lot!).
Lobelia123 · 28/02/2022 09:45

Yes @nightlystroll . . . my post was not an instruction to all future governments, just some thoughts running through my head. The answer to those questions might be yes, no or qualified. These are things we should be thinking about, instead of just whether to vote for X party or Y party. Also, the world of politics is not just confined to England.

ESGdance · 28/02/2022 09:46

Not sure if you have seen this. In a previous incarnation he was the voiceover of Paddington Bear in Ukraine.

OnlyAFleshWound · 28/02/2022 09:47

@Hoppinggreen

That’s what an actual leader looks like. The Foreign minister is pretty impressive too. I think what Putin forgets is that Ukrainians have lived in The USSR and have now had freedom and they know what they prefer As for Balls of steel - my geography might be a bit off here but aren’t these people descended from The Cossacks?
No, he's not descended from Cossacks. He's Jewish.

And as another descendant from Ukrainian Jews, we are very very proud to have him Grin

powershowerforanhour · 28/02/2022 09:47

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. He strikes just the right note.

Agree the Ukranian spirit is so admirable. Lots of their MPs are ready to fight too.

TheVolturi · 28/02/2022 09:52

I love that you are standing by your crush! Good for you 👍. If Carrie dumps him you can be first in (a very short) line for him.
