To think that JK Rowling is being vilified for standing for women and children?

Getting sick of seeing her being torn down constantly on social media.
Her essays are thoughtful and careful and she's primarily concerned with safeguarding.

AIBU to say it's a witch hunt?

Of course it is. They won't be happy until women are completely silenced.

TheGoldenWolfFleece · 05/02/2022 12:48

Why what's she said now?

toots111 · 05/02/2022 12:51

Agree.

ExtraPlinky · 05/02/2022 12:55

@TheGoldenWolfFleece

Why what's she said now?
Well the most recent thing she said was that her charitable trust has so far donated over £8m to more than 70 UK and international charities to help alleviate the social effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However that won't stop people saying they want to rape and murder her for standing up for women.

What made me post was opening up my Facebook and seeing a "friend" saying "F£&k that TERF JK Rowling for ruining the Harry Potter books for me."

Women saying no to men makes men angry.

The fact they can't touch her fuels the rage and silly children and adults repeat shit they hear on tiktok and Twitter without even reading a word of her essay.

anothersmahedmug · 05/02/2022 12:58

Successful women cause even more anguish to men

Successful women living their life true to none patriarchal values are the most evil though

PonyPatter44 · 05/02/2022 12:58

My DD was repeating the jkr=terf bollocks, and I asked her to read the actual essay. She was genuinely surprised and admitted there was nothing hateful there ....hopefully it has made her a little bit more critical in her thinking.

ExtraPlinky · 05/02/2022 13:00

My daughter's classmate told her not to read Harry Potter because "JK Rowling is evil and hates women." and said she won't speak to her anymore.

DD wore her Hufflepuff badge to school the next day in badgerish defiance.

Over the last few months I have seen supposedly normal friends saying they would like to burn her books. Some of them are mediocre writers.

Definitely a witch hunt. A teenage girl recently told me very earnestly that JKR is transphobic but could offer no evidence. When I pointed out that she has been nothing but polite and reasonable towards trans people, she said she'd get back to me with the proof. Still waiting. JKR's only 'crime' is to believe that sex is a biological reality and matters. This is the belief of everyone I know apart from men's right's activists and the hugely misguided Scottish government.

SalsaLove · 05/02/2022 13:01

I believe history will be kinder to her than she’s currently being treated. And yes, men don’t like it when women say no.

Momicrone · 05/02/2022 13:01

It's like something out of one of her books!

Rainbowshit · 05/02/2022 13:03

YANBU

Her actual essay.
After posting it The Sun interviewed her ex husband and gave him the front page to say: "I slapped JK and I'm not sorry".

She's also the 27th highest tax payer in the UK (according to the list in the Sunday Times last week) - £36m this tax year.

No tax havens or offshoring her wealth like many others.

Her contribution to this country both culturally and financially is immense. The sustained efforts to libel her, to discredit her and to threaten her are an absolute disgrace.

anon12345678901 · 05/02/2022 13:04

YANBU at all. Men don't like it when women disagree with them.

SisterAgatha · 05/02/2022 13:04

Still unapologetically love her.

ScottishDiblet · 05/02/2022 13:05

She is a true hero of our time and I am extremely grateful to her.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 05/02/2022 13:06

Yes, agree. I really admire her courage and integrity on this.

I think part of the 'problem' is that there is a big overlap in the venn diagram of "people for whom Harry Potter is culturally massive" and "people for whom transactions is culturally massive", and that drives a lot of emotional intensity. Not to underplay the v familiar theme of misogyny, but this is a factor too I think.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 05/02/2022 13:07

Transactivism not transactions 🙄 bloody autocorrect

TheGreatATuin · 05/02/2022 13:08

I agree. Pure witch hunt. What she has actually said isn't even on the same planet of what she's accused of.
It's so far removed, that if I see people parroting the same crap about her now, I assume they're either dishonest or thick as mince.

TheChild · 05/02/2022 13:09

Your DD sounds brilliant! Hopefully she didn't get any comments from her friends about it!
Spookytooth · 05/02/2022 13:09

I think a lot of it is hatred for rich or successful women. Look at the treatment of women MPs, they're held to much higher expectations (expectations impossible to achieve) and vilified much more than men by both sexes. JKR is also attractive - another reason to put her down.
Look at the criticism of women celebs - mostly they can't win whatever they do. How many snide comments do you see against Kate as opposed to P William.
We are a horrible society, jealous, angry and mysoginistic.

Sausageandeggs · 05/02/2022 13:10

I’m immensely grateful for her speaking out. She’s incredibly brave. The ironic thing is her bravery is lost on people who claim she ruined the message of HP for them.

She's as brave as her characters - braver in reality.

She is transphobic, she conflates trans women with sex abusers. She does not speak for all women, thankfully.
