To think that JK Rowling is being vilified for standing for women and children?

Getting sick of seeing her being torn down constantly on social media.
Her essays are thoughtful and careful and she's primarily concerned with safeguarding.

AIBU to say it's a witch hunt?

What's happened to jk rowling is a classic example of what happens when the most important thing , over even having a coherent argument or evidence to back up claims , is to be seen to disagree with the right people.

Have you been living under a rock for the last few years?

CorrBlimeyGG · 05/02/2022 13:11

(And yes, I've read her 'essay'.)

ExtraPlinky · 05/02/2022 13:12

@CorrBlimeyGG

She is transphobic, she conflates trans women with sex abusers. She does not speak for all women, thankfully.
Where does she do that? Evidence please.

Watching this thread to test a theory. How long do we give it?

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 05/02/2022 13:13

JKR is to be admired for standing up for women and girls when she really could have just hidden away in her privileged world. She didn't have to get involved but she has bucketloads of integrity and bravery. She is inspirational.
It's really demonstrative of where the TRAs are at if they can't read her essay and work out that there is another way. They're still pushing for total annihilation of women's spaces with a load of numpty who haven't read what she actually wrote. It's a modern day witch hunt.

Anyone slagging her off on social media can’t have read her essay.

Glisil · 05/02/2022 13:15

Completely agree. I find it thoroughly depressing that people no longer think for themselves, they just go along with whatever people on social media are saying. Usually they have no idea about any of the background, or they do but it’s a twisted version of events to suit the agendas of certain groups.

Ablababla · 05/02/2022 13:17

It scares me how post-truth the world has become. So many people think she’s a transphobic regardless of any actual evidence. There is a large section of society that seems unable to engage their brains.

She obviously amazing but even more so now as she is willing to pay a high price for what she believes in.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/02/2022 13:17

I've come to the conclusion they genuinely think they are being kind. They are fortunate enough not to have needed DV refuges, or rape counselling or a womens prison or similar services and don't understand the trauma and PTSD of people who do, or that every person experiences these differently.

It isn't as black and white as they want it to be. We don't live in utopia, we need compromises in real life.

Please can you give direct examples of this.
RavenclawDiadem · 05/02/2022 13:20

Big fan of JKR in general and all things Potter in particular.

She is a smart, clever woman who puts her arguments across articulately and persuasively. Some people don't like that, so resort to sweary name calling on social media, or posting pictures of themselves standing on her doorstep.

We need more people like JK Rowling.

MarshaBradyo · 05/02/2022 13:21

That message on your FB feed is horrendous op

In terms of JKR I’m not sure why she gets so little protection from hate speech online - thinking of footballer while was targeted on Twitter and person was arrested

gardenhelpneeded · 05/02/2022 13:22

Incredible, brave woman. 💕 Fantastic role model. Men don’t like women standing up to them especially ones like her who are too powerful and wealthy to be silenced. It makes them crazy. Those calling her transphobic have most likely not even read her essays or applied any critical thinking whatsoever.

I notice that you don't (ever) offer any evidence of her alleged 'transphobia'.

It's a good job that you don't speak for all women. Or even most women. Or - for that matter - most men.

Proof please

Tempted to report - is that slander or libel ?

gardenhelpneeded · 05/02/2022 13:26

Well of course not all transwomen are sex abusers (no one especially not JK has said that) but they are biologically men. And some men are sex abusers. That’s why single sex provision exists. We don’t know which ones are a danger so they should all be kept out. This about womens’ rights.

SilverontheTree · 05/02/2022 13:27

She’s amazing.
I stand with JKR.

Are we still waiting for any evidence of this?

Perhaps Corr is confusing JKR with all the people who post pornography onto JKR's twitter account because they hate her for standing up for women.

VelvetChairGirl · 05/02/2022 13:31

all women are vilified if they are not hand maidens welcome to the age of misogyny

SamphiretheStickerist · 05/02/2022 13:32

Good You will be able to provide us with specific quotes that actually are, in any way whatsoever, transphobic.

I look forward to seeing what it is that is being objected to as nobody, to date, has yet come back with any such evidence

We'll be waiting a while... they're trying to find some. It's an easy word for them to throw around but when it comes to proving it, that's not as easy.

JKR is a wonderful brave woman who should be applauded. It horrifies me the abuse she gets. She is not transphobic. She stands up for womens and girls rights and is a staunch supporter of single sex spaces.she does not want women to be erased.

Why the world is listening to a small group of men who want to tell women what to do is beyond me. We need many other women like JKR.
