To think that JK Rowling is being vilified for standing for women and children?

Getting sick of seeing her being torn down constantly on social media.
Her essays are thoughtful and careful and she's primarily concerned with safeguarding.

AIBU to say it's a witch hunt?

@Viviennemary

She is too big for her boots. Can't stand her. Like the books though.
Jealousy is not healthy.
Whatinthelord · 05/02/2022 21:39

I like JKR and what she writes.
I do feel that there has been a witch hunt. I also think it’s quite scary that people can be so vilified for expressing an alternative view.

VivX · 05/02/2022 21:50

Definitely a witch hunt.

RishiRich · 05/02/2022 21:51

YANBU. It's sickening that what she's written and said is even vaguely controversial.

She can surely do an Engorgio charm on her boots then so they are the right size for her?

She has pretty big boots to fill after all. Especially as she's doing the work that our politicians should be doing to safeguard children.

@GiveMyHeadPeaceffs

I may be in the minority here...I love JKR but I'm not arsed about Harry Potter Grin

Ssssh ... I agree!!

Schmoozer · 05/02/2022 22:03

@Ionlydomassiveones spot on !!!
Totally agree
I stand with JKR
I hope she realises that by far the majority of women, DO

DrSbaitso · 05/02/2022 22:08

Drop a line to her office to balance the abuse from the useful idiots. They do pass the messages on, at least in a general sense of how many she's getting.

Would imagine most of the WORLD agrees with her. Problem is that the small but vocal minority is busy getting women sacked from their jobs and having women terrorised by the police for saying so.

It frightens me that we’re expected to share space with men.

I can't take credit for that line though, it was from Blackadder

Me too! Read the first HP book, it was okay, but I can't be bothered to read the rest, just not that amazing. Also have only seen bits of the films. But wholeheartedly agree with what JKR says on this issue.

DrSbaitso · 05/02/2022 22:54

Don't judge Harry Potter on the films, they're total wank.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 05/02/2022 22:55

I very much admire JKR.

I agree OP. Is anybody taking bets on how long this thread will stay here before being moved to the naughty corner?

I'm very surprised it's still here tbh. One got shifted yesterday much more quickly. Maybe nobody noticed yet?

endofagain · 05/02/2022 23:10

Just read on another thread that Exulansic's You tube account has been shut down. It seems that things have taken a turn.

stuckinagut · 05/02/2022 23:25

It's so blindingly obvious that 'self-identify' is going to cause so many problems, it really shouldn't need someone like a popular writer to say it, we should ALL be saying it, even trans people if they want to protect themselves and their credibility. In the same way that I am willing to go through a proper assessment process for something I value, even if it costs me time, money, hard work, it's the credibility of that objective meeting of criteria that is the prize - noone respects anything that was just 'I want, therefore I have'. Would you fly in a plane where the pilot just 'self-identified' as qualified?

What I also find ludicrous is individuals that have transitioned then writing personal experiences of their new gender on behalf of the whole group, as if they are the first member!! As if all the people that were brought up in their natal gender, received all the social conditioning in line with their natal gender and have about 20 years lived experience needed a manual of enlightenment or something!!

mummykel16 · 05/02/2022 23:47

Jeez

BogRollBOGOF · 05/02/2022 23:52

JK Rowling speaks for this woman and eloquently too.

elgreco · 06/02/2022 00:05

Never read any Hary Potter books. Much admire JKR.

trunktoes · 06/02/2022 09:53

@PinkyU I don't completely disagree but on the basis of your arguement all men should have access to womens spaces. If we decide that there are safeguarding reasons why they do not why should one subset of males be allowed in? Either you agree with safeguarding (no males) or not (all males). Just because someone says they are a woman doesn't mean that safeguarding is no longer needed.
