Neighbour stole my delivery?

623 replies

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

Do your neighbours take in a lot of parcels for you?? Maybe they’ve had enough?

Luckymummytoone · 01/02/2022 07:01

Gosh!! I’d be so angry! How does she have the nerve!
Bet it will magically appear now you’ve mentioned the police xx

Tilltheend99 · 01/02/2022 07:06

It’s the responsibility of the company you bought the item from to make sure you receive it regardless of if it was delivered. You have picture proof that it wasn’t delivered to you so it would be worth calling the seller and getting them to chase up with the delivery company.

It’s rubbish that your neighbour has blatantly nicked it though

misspercy · 01/02/2022 07:11

@stayathomegardener

Just watch out for new hallway carpets being fitted tomorrow! Tender hooks here too. Smile

I know it's your actual life @Eleanr and fingers crossed for a good outcome but this is heading into Mumsnet Classics territory with the amateur sleuthing and grammatical reprimands combo.

I was about to say, if the neighbour had changed the carpets after the pet food delivery, that would explain why she was so annoyed, because she'd know it was an old photo.

However, I can't be bothered to replace my carpets, so I fail to believe anyone else can. Such a faff.

NinaDefoe · 01/02/2022 07:20

Wow.

thesunwillout · 01/02/2022 07:27

From the experiences of others on the thread it's possible the courier did send an old picture?
Hence her being adamant she hasn't taken it in?

Sometimes couriers leave things in weird places.

Could she really be that daft to try and nick it?

theremustonlybeone · 01/02/2022 07:38

My parcel was delivered to the wrong number on my street. I got a message and photo stating it’s been delivered to me. I called DPD and they tracked where the driver dropped it off and could tell me the number. All sorted and parcel collected . Call the company

HidingFromDD · 01/02/2022 07:44

just a word of caution. last year I had neighbours 4 doors down rush round as I came into the house asking for their parcel, obviously one they'd been waiting for. I didn't have a parcel but had received one 4 days previously from DHL that was exactly the same size, shape and position (left in my front porch) as the picture they had. It may be possible she's telling the truth

Hopefully my neighbours believed me. I get loads of parcels as I have an enclosed brick porch (so can't see into it) and I leave porch door unlocked so all the delivery guys leave stuff there

This happened to a friend of mine. The item magically appeared on her doorstep. Open. With batteries in.Grin
Tdcp · 01/02/2022 07:56

I had this as well though not quite to the same extent, if you call the delivery company they can track to which door number they dropped it off at using their drivers GPS. I hope you get this resolved!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/02/2022 08:03

Hopefully you telling her you contacted the police will do the job.

Different thing, but my father used to run a club at a church hall - he had locked cupboards there in which he kept the kit for the club.
After the club finished up, my father didn't immediately collect the kit, because he was hoping to re-start it - but when a new incumbent stepped into the lead role at the church, they wanted the cupboards cleared (not the church's, by the way).
Church people brought the stuff round to my Dad's house, with rather a large proportion of the more expensive stuff missing. They claimed that was all that was in there. Dad told the police - and a couple of days later the rest was mysteriously "found" and brought round by a pretty bolshy couple who had obviously thought they could get away with keeping it themselves

If only people didn't try to pull these stunts - it's so stupidly criminal, stealing from friends and neighbours, especially with all the photo delivery stuff available now!

Mollysocks · 01/02/2022 08:04

Surely the photo shows the parcel in her doorway and you said it was heavily branded on the box OP, so how can she say it’s a different parcel? She hasn’t a leg to stand on. You definitely need to report this if you haven’t already.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/02/2022 08:12

@legalseagull

Go show her the photo and say "it looks like it was delivered here. Can you please just check" if she still denies knowledge tell her "weird, I'll have to call the police to report it missing"
Yes - I'd do this.
marqueses · 01/02/2022 08:17

@Im2022

Perhaps the parcel is hidden behind a chester draws?

I hope so. I really hope the neighbour doesn’t use a escape goat to get away with it!

They are both going to need a bit of rest bite from the stress of it all
SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/02/2022 08:22

@Ozanj

Amazon / Delivery company will go after her for items over £100 or if not the drivers who get personally impacted may do. I hope she’s prepared for that - neighbour at my old place got blockaded in by 10 dpd drivers for doing something similar until he gave them the iphone / ipad parcel lol.
This restores my faith!

I'd love to see that (never will as that won't happen round here as all my neighbours are helpful and honest, the barstewards!)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/02/2022 08:26

I’m on tender hooks! 🤣

"Tenter" not tender

I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE! Grin Grin Grin

IntermittentParps · 01/02/2022 08:26

She's taking the piss. Did you actually contact the police, OP?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/02/2022 08:32

I just can't believe that some people are such chancers. It's really quite depressing.

Mind you, I reckon there should be a cap on the values of deliveries handed over to NDNs for this very reason. £50 or possibly less? Or you'd have to give them the 'code' (as with Deliveroo/Just East deliveries) to quote before the courier would hand it over?

On the subject of NDNs pinching stuff, whatever happened to the thread (missing laptop) where the NDN had been feeding the cats while the OP was on holiday?

Pegasussnail · 01/02/2022 08:35

I hope you get sorted opSad

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/02/2022 08:38

@luca123

I've had the same thing with my neighbour accusing me of taking a parcel. She came knocking on my door asking for her parcel and I genuinely had no idea what she was talking about. The courier had taken a photo of it on our front step. We weren't even in but he left a note for her that he had delivered it to us but then flung in into a bush in her back garden.
That is truly bizarre!
Duckerbizzle · 01/02/2022 08:40

I hope that the OP can resolve this off her own 'back' and it won't end up being a damp squid....I've taken time out from cleaning my Chester draws to follow this thread! WinkWink

GlamGiraffe · 01/02/2022 08:41

@AgathaMystery

Agh!

The escaped goat is on the most tender of hooks here!

Need an update!! 🍿

😂
TeloMere · 01/02/2022 08:42

It always infuriates me that there's no way of stopping deliveries being left with neighbours.

IntermittentParps · 01/02/2022 08:45

On the subject of NDNs pinching stuff, whatever happened to the thread (missing laptop) where the NDN had been feeding the cats while the OP was on holiday?
I was thinking about that too.
