‘Sorry the colour doesn’t suit my baby’

Sent a friend with a new baby some clothes - one thing was a really pale pink and the other thing was a really pale yellow. It was like a T-shirt and joggers set thing that I got in a small independent shop.

No Thankyou - just a comment that the colours weren’t right. The baby is 3 months old.

Aibu to think I would never have dreamed of making such a comment. I had some really unusual colours but I smiled, said Thankyou & the kids wore them as I was grateful to receive gifts.

I feel really offended- they weren’t cheap either 🤷🏻‍♀️

‘No problem, if you return them I’ll get them refunded’.

RussianSpy101 · 21/01/2022 12:09

She’s not a friend! Sorry she was so rude to you but I think you’ve learnt your lesson now.

BeeBop54 · 21/01/2022 12:09

YANBU.
I feel like I've heard it all now.

Rmka · 21/01/2022 12:09

YANBU. That's so rude of your friend...

Wnkingawalrus · 21/01/2022 12:10

Oh wow, you have a very rude and bonkers friend!

I got a few sets of baby clothes that weren’t to my taste. I wouldn’t have dreamed of saying anything other than thank you. And they still got worn given that a small baby doesn’t really have an opinion on these things.

Laughingstock91 · 21/01/2022 12:10

Does anyone really care that the colour doesn’t suit a 3 month old? Maybe it’s just me!

I wouldn't bother getting them a gift ever again, even if they hated it the polite thing to do would be to say thank you without comment.

Are you likely to buy again? As in are you the aunt or grandma? If that was the case it be a little different as they may not want you wasting your money on things they won't put the child in, but even so there are more tactful ways of saying that!

betwixtlives · 21/01/2022 12:11

What, you literally got a text (or a call?) saying ‘the colours aren’t right’ and nothing else?

Marcipex · 21/01/2022 12:11

What Cheekypeach said.

Joinedforthis22 · 21/01/2022 12:11

Ah sorry realised you've said it's a friend, in that case they can piss off!

AsYouWishButtercup · 21/01/2022 12:12

Don’t all 3mo babies look like jacket potatoes - what does suit them?!

MIL got our newborn a load of luminous pink tracksuits that made me think “bleurgh”. I accepted them with good grace and passed them on to someone who appreciated them when she was too big for them anyway

AndItDoesntSeemToMatter · 21/01/2022 12:12

Nasty bitch. Don't bother your arse again

Laughingstock91 · 21/01/2022 12:13

@betwixtlives yes! ‘We got your parcel today. Sorry the colour doesn’t suit little xxxx. Could we change them please’

I agree. Every colour suits a baby. Babies are cute.
Twinkleylight · 21/01/2022 12:13

Never buy for her again and step right back from this cheeky fucker because she's going to be one of THOSE parents.

KatherineofGaunt · 21/01/2022 12:14

Definitely ask her for them back, then. From the sounds of her, she'll more than likely sell them on and make money out of you!

Wnkingawalrus · 21/01/2022 12:15

Do you think they are being twattish and refusing to dress the baby in anything pink but don’t want to say that?

Legomania · 21/01/2022 12:15

My babies looked hideous in yellow. I would never have said that upon receiving a gift though!

Laughingstock91 · 21/01/2022 12:15

We got given a brown velour furry track suit thing when my DS was born and while not to my taste, he still wore it loads!! Because it was a gift, babies can wear anything and it meant I didn’t have to buy stuff he grew!! People were so generous with their gifts that i would have never said anything other than Thankyou!!!

@Wnkingawalrus yes I think it’s the pink thing!!

Jesus, some people are horrendous. Some of the stuff people bought for DD wasn’t really to my taste but I smiled and thanked them, and they usually got some wear around the house. As for not suiting him/her - they’re three months old. All that matters is that they’re warm enough and comfortable.

BonnesVacances · 21/01/2022 12:19

Reply "yes that's fine, I'll exchange them if you give them back". Then return them to the shop for a refund or donate them and don't mention it again. If they chase up the replacement just be vague and non-commital.

Fairylightsongs · 21/01/2022 12:20

I think it’s a polite way of saying she doesn’t like the colours so wants to change them.

Ellavoday · 21/01/2022 12:20

I think they want the money.

Ask them to send them back to you.

RocketPanda · 21/01/2022 12:21

Ask her to send them back and go and get a refund and spend the money on yourself. Some people are just really ungrateful.
