I’m going to a family members wedding in May, WIBU to wear this? Is it too white? www.phase-eight.com/product/verena-spot-maxi-dress-220451630.html#q=Polka&is=false&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=220451630&pos=22

I think it depends on the bride and family really. I wouldn't mind a guest wearing that to my wedding but some brides or more traditional family members might find it rude.

shivbo2014 · 19/01/2022 18:06

If you're asking you won't be 100% comfortable wearing it. I think it's probably OK to wear but I wouldn't.

1FootInTheRave · 19/01/2022 18:25

Absolutely not appropriate imo.

Hesma · 19/01/2022 18:32

I think it’s fine and would accessorise with black or fuscia. It’s a lovely dress

Crazycrazylady · 19/01/2022 19:06

I think the fact that's it's white and long , I'd leave it off for a wedding.

@Justheretoaskaquestion91

This thread explains why some people think it’s fine to eat with their mouths open - basically some people don’t know basic etiquette! That’s it!
no, some people have different social set up etc.

Bloody rude.
Who made you queen of the rules?

Who made you queen of the rules?

The point of etiquette is that it’s rules for society re exactly these sorts of things. I don’t need to be the queen of rules - any decent etiquette book will tell you not to wear white to a wedding. Or eat with your mouth open. Etc etc etc

Bluemamma · 19/01/2022 19:23

@steppemum why do you say that? I honestly don’t see what is wrong with this dress.. I have been to many weddings (plus my own) and honestly I see zero issues with it. Ok it is white but with black polka dots all over it!! Has anyone ever seen a bride wearing polka dots? This dress will look fab with a black lether jacket. It’s 100% wedding appropriate. OP maybe ask the bride if she’s going to be ok with it? On my own wedding a friend asked me in advance if her outfit will be ok with me (white pants and a blue too) it was ok with me of course!

From Debrett’s, aka the absolute oracle of the etiquette market:

Is it now acceptable for guests to wear white?

In short, no. Despite a rise in guests considering cream jumpsuits and definitely-not-bridal white shift dresses acceptable attire, Debrett's say that wearing white to someone else’s wedding is still a no-go. “It is best to avoid white or cream and black,” the Handbook states. “Overly bright colours and patterns should be avoided as they may dominate photographs, and care should be taken not to overshadow the bride. It is not necessary for all the components of an outfit to match.”

Lovely dress but too white for a wedding

Bluemamma · 19/01/2022 19:27

Sorry meant to direct my post at @Justheretoaskaquestion91

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 19/01/2022 19:31

@Bluemamma

It’s a fabulous dress. It would look excellent with a leather jacket, just not to a wedding. Because its overwhelming colour is white. Not sure about a leather jacket to a wedding either tbh!

Iamclearlyamug · 19/01/2022 19:34

Wow it’s beautiful, might order one for myself 😍

NeverChange · 19/01/2022 19:40

If I were the bride, I wouldn't care if someone wore it at my wedding.

If I were a guest, I wouldn't wear white, ivory, etc for 2 reasons, 1. In case I upset the bride, 2. In case anyone else this I was rude

oviraptor21 · 19/01/2022 20:14

It's beautiful. I'd wear it.
