I’m going to a family members wedding in May, WIBU to wear this? Is it too white? www.phase-eight.com/product/verena-spot-maxi-dress-220451630.html#q=Polka&is=false&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=220451630&pos=22

I mean lovely!

StoatMilk · 19/01/2022 15:52

@AnnaSW1

Don't wear a white dress to a wedding. It's just bad etiquette.

If it was a knee length dress then I'd say it was fine - especially as you might have a jacket on as well; but maxi and predominantly white then I'd say no.

WindInTheWillows7 · 19/01/2022 15:54

I think it'll be ok if you wear black accessories... but to be super safe I wouldn't

SpottyBumPony · 19/01/2022 16:00

I wouldn't have minded at my wedding

pinkyredrose · 19/01/2022 16:01

People who wear white to weddings are arseholes

I think people complaining about guests wearing white are arseholes. Honestly can't see the problem. You invite people because you like them and want them there presumably, why does it matter what colour they wear

Staffy1 · 19/01/2022 16:03

Just based on the fact it’s £89 for polyester, it would be a no. But also, probably best to go for something not white.

Crystalvas · 19/01/2022 16:05

Too much white on it for a wedding.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 19/01/2022 16:09

It will be fine with a black jacket and it's a lovely dress.

At least three of my friends wore white dresses or trouser suits to my wedding and I never gave it a second thought. I only noticed when I was looking through my wedding album on my 25th anniversary.
Maybe this whole not wearing white to a wedding wasn't a thing in the 90's.

RowanAlong · 19/01/2022 16:15

Long and white? I think it’s a no from me, though it’s a lovely dress. It’s not your day, so play safe

crackersforcrackers · 19/01/2022 16:15

I think it is too long and white, even with jacket/bag/accessories. Lovely dress though, I would buy it anyway and wear it this summer!

Noni123 · 19/01/2022 16:16

Dress is lovely & as others have said teamed with black accessories will make a perfect wedding guest outfit. I don't know what others are talking about it looks nothing like anything that will compete with the brides dress. These days brides are more likely to go for ivory than white & some even pink-so go for it

OhPatti · 19/01/2022 16:26

I like it and I think it's fine for a wedding myself, OP. Personally I think it's barmy to apply the 'no white at a wedding' rule to clothes that categorically do not look bridal in nature. If a guest had worn this to my wedding it wouldn't even have occurred to me to think she was breaking any protocols.

CornishGem1975 · 19/01/2022 16:28

Perfect. I don't think anyone is going to mistake you for the bride.

I asked on here last year about wearing a black dress to a wedding and was told categorically NO YOU MUST NOT EVER. Went to a wedding recently and nearly everyone was wearing a variation of a black dress!

Wear what makes you happy, nobody, not even the bride will care what you turn up in as long as it's not a wedding dress. (Got married myself recently, didn't notice what the guests were wearing!)

Doidontimmm · 19/01/2022 16:30

I’m getting married this year and would have no problem you wearing this, I’d not think anything of it other than that’s gorgeous!!

Bluemamma · 19/01/2022 16:30

Perfect for a wedding. Tempted myself. Just wear some bracelets or earring perthaos a black jacket over it. A leather jacket will look fab!

tartanbaker · 19/01/2022 16:35

For the ‘don’t wear white to a wedding’ thing, someone once gave me a tip…if you screw your eyes up & look at it, is the predominant colour you can see white? If so, it’s too white for a wedding if you’re not the bride…..

Candyfloss99 · 19/01/2022 16:45

If you are wondering if it's inappropriate then don't wear it. You'll feel uncomfortable.

GinPin2 · 19/01/2022 16:46

It is lovely, I would wear it. Maybe with a darker jacket.

mrstea301 · 19/01/2022 16:49

It's too white imo. It's a lovely dress but you can wear literally any other colour in the spectrum!

GreenerGrass103 · 19/01/2022 16:51

Gorgeous dress, I am tempted to buy it myself so thanks for the tip! But I don't think it's suitable for a wedding.

DillDanding · 19/01/2022 16:52

Nothing remotely bridal about it. Wear it, it’s lovely.

Allthecheeseplease · 19/01/2022 17:02

I'm getting married this year and I wouldn't mind at all. Some people are way too precious. No one will mistake you for the bride!

HaveringWavering · 19/01/2022 17:12

No comment on the “white at a wedding” issue but if you have similar colouring to the blonde model don’t get it- it completely washes her out. Looks lovely on the black model though.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/01/2022 17:13

It's too white and would be considered bad form by many
