AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

I wouldn't complain no, I would have gotten up earlier to get ready.
It was only 10 minutes so not a big deal.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/01/2022 16:14

Jesus, yes YABU. He was 10 mins early.

These delivery drivers have a hard day of it, no breaks, nowhere to go to the loo. They try and get a few minutes saved here and there. You would be very unfair to complain to his employer about him, it really really isn’t a big deal.

It seems that you wanted to lay in bed until 8.29 which I think is a little unreasonable and shows no flexibility

KiloWhat · 10/01/2022 16:15

He didn't seem rude though? He just buzzed and waited?

mugoftea456 · 10/01/2022 16:15

I think you are being silly and I would not complain about this.

user1473878824 · 10/01/2022 16:15

It’s ten minutes, it’s really not a big deal. I find it weird you weren’t up and dressed ten minutes before a delivery though. You’re saying you had to pull clothes on but you would have had to do that minutes later anyway

gillbillwill · 10/01/2022 16:15

I did want to lay in bed til 8.29, which is why I didn't book 8-9!

I think being slightly miffed at being woken up is understandable however I think complaining is a bit OTT and mean.

They are just trying to do their job and stay on track - my drivers are often 10 minutes early and it doesn't bother me. If I was out they'd just wait.

I couldn't get too worked up about it.

Tricked2003 · 10/01/2022 16:16

Yes, you are being cranky! It was only 10 mins, I'm always ready to accept a delivery 10 mins before. I did moan the day the driver turned up over an hour early with no warning though!!!

KiloWhat · 10/01/2022 16:16

You wanted to get up 1 minute before they arrived? What if their clocks didn't sync with yours?
Aprilx · 10/01/2022 16:16

I don’t want to call somebody an old witch, but yes you are gin cranky and yes it would be unreasonable to call and complain, delivery drivers have a hard enough job. Don’t book deliveries for 8:30am if you are usually still in bed at 8:20am, or at least make a special effort to be up on time, chances are you wouldn’t have been ready whenever.

But he didn't just wait. He buzzed me twice within a minute and then must have buzzed a neighbour to get into the building.

YABU. 10 minutes is nothing.

Foolsrule · 10/01/2022 16:17

You could have been out. He’d have had to wait until 8:30 if that was the case anyway.

heldinadream · 10/01/2022 16:17

For a ten minute early call when you got a mumbled apology? I wouldn't complain, I always allow for some margin of error - after all your driver isn't in control of traffic and can't just sit around if he's early can he? If I was expecting a delivery I'd be dressed a good 20 minutes before it was due, just in case.

Seems a very small thing to get at all het up about.

BertieQueen · 10/01/2022 16:17

10 minutes? Confused
8 minutes by the time he got to the door…

What time did you plan on getting out of bed and dressed 8:29?

Yabu

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 10/01/2022 16:18

You had to get up about 9 minutes earlier than you planned? I don't think i would complain about that, it seems mildly annoying at worst.

DefyingSanity · 10/01/2022 16:18

Geez, I wish my deliveries came 10 minutes early. Instead I'm stuck in the house waiting hours on end for late deliveries leaving me no time in the day to do anything else in case I miss the delivery.

YABU. He hardly turned up an hour early it was a few minutes. You should have been ready slightly before and after that time window.

Cochabamba · 10/01/2022 16:18

Listen to yourself! You have food delivered to your door and it's ten minutes early and you're complaining! Do you know how privileged you are?

RoseGoldEagle · 10/01/2022 16:18

He was 10 minutes early. He’s not a machine, things don’t always work perfectly to time! He could have sat in his van for 10 mins but what a waste of time for him- I’d imagine he’d think most people are up by then. Honestly it just seem doesn’t worth more than a seconds thought to me.

KrisAkabusi · 10/01/2022 16:18

It was only ten minutes. That is not worth complaining about.

Singinghollybob · 10/01/2022 16:18

YWBU to complain

I know. I don’t want to be all “think of all the starving people in the world” but…. Think of all people less fortunate than you, those using food banks, those unable to afford food shopping, those delivery drivers unable to stop for breaks cos they run such tight schedules etc.
GirlInACountrySong · 10/01/2022 16:20

Christ! Is this actually for real??

anotherginandtonicpls · 10/01/2022 16:20

Poor delivery driver! To be considering reporting this is so lame. He was 10 minutes early! Give him a break, sounds like you need to book a later delivery slot if you require more time in bed 🙄

gillbillwill · 10/01/2022 16:20

A unanimous YABU. Thank you mumsnet for the talking down Smile
