AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

Yabu, you'd be an arse to complain imo. I know this may an be obvious answer to your problem but could you not of booked a later time?

TabithaTittlemouse · 10/01/2022 16:50

@RunningInTheWind

Ugh. Rudely awoken by the dustmen. Sad

Sleepyquest · 10/01/2022 16:50

So if he had arrived at 8:30, you would have been washed and dressed and ready? YABU and I'm glad I don't have to deliver to you. Don't complain, he probably thought he was doing you a favour.

Iamanicepersonreally · 10/01/2022 16:52

You’re being massively unreasonable . Get a grip

viques · 10/01/2022 16:53

@gillbillwill

I did want to lay in bed til 8.29, which is why I didn't book 8-9!
Well since by your own admission it takes you two minutes to pull your clothes on staying in bed until 8.29 would have been risky if he had turned up at 8.30.

Maybe you should just go to bed fully dressed next time you expect a delivery.

Fatgalslim · 10/01/2022 16:53

Yeah you're being a witch OP, they're damned if they do, damned if they don't. You knew he was coming at 8.30 but you were going to get up at 8.29? Really pathetic actually, that you're contemplating complaining

Stormbraver99 · 10/01/2022 16:53

I set my alarm for at least an hour before the delivery is expected (even on a Sunday) as I need to be up, dressed, make-up etc.
I don't think turning up 10 mins early is a problem.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/01/2022 16:53

Jeez, you're being very precious.

Herestoyoucolinrobinson · 10/01/2022 16:55

@saltandpepper234 me too after there was a thread where someone said there was a note on their ocado account saying they're happy for earlier deliveries. Not sainsburys but it would explain a lot if they did the same. My hour long slot is in practice 5 hours which is fine now but not forever.

A family member was delivering for them for a while last year and the routes he was given left a lot of time between deliveries so I'm hoping it's just that.

viques · 10/01/2022 16:55

@Redglitter

If your slot had been 11am then yeah fair enough but jeez he was a whole 8 mins late. Don't be ridiculous
Early . Grin
Isgooglebroken · 10/01/2022 16:55

@RunningInTheWind

So she was going to haul on the dressing gown of doom at 8:29 and open the door with death breath at 8:30. That poor driver.
That’s what I was thinking! Ewww.
Natty13 · 10/01/2022 16:56

YABVU. It's likely not his fault he was 10 mins early - traffic could have been better than usual that time of day, his previous delivery might not have answered the door or cancelled, anything. Do you think he should have sat outside wasting 10 mins just to be on the dot with your delivery. What if you hadn't opened until 08:35 and taken ages to get the shopping in and traffic then got worse? Should he run the risk of any of that and being late with his next one?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 10/01/2022 16:57

If you're not happy, maybe you could shop in store at a time to suit you?

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2022 16:57

Sorry @friendshipsarehardforme I meant if it's due 9.30 onwards you might not be due home until (just before) then not if its 8.30-9.30 you can get home for 9.30

ExcaliburBaby · 10/01/2022 16:59

Give him a break!

Badabingbadabum · 10/01/2022 16:59

I love these threads.

Op: AIBU?
Everyone: Yes
Op: No, I don't think I am!

Doorbell goes, chuck on a dressing gown. Not glamourous but we've all had to do it.

PraiseTheSunshine · 10/01/2022 17:00

YABU - He was only 10 minutes early which is nothing. Complaining would be really out of order.

kazillionaire · 10/01/2022 17:01

YABVU its 8 minutes early for goodness sake?

Rosscameasdoody · 10/01/2022 17:01

I wouldn’t complain - it was only ten minutes. Different if he’d turned up massively early or late, or had been rude. However, I do agree that maybe a phone call to you would have been in order to check it was convenient. I’ve had quite a few supermarket deliveries during the pandemic and they do usually call if they’re even ten minutes or so early, and to advise if they’re late. Not something worth getting him into trouble over though.

MichelleScarn · 10/01/2022 17:01

This is the definition of being precious and ridiculous! I would say complain to give people a laugh but you may end up with a twat who wants to undertake a disciplinary on the poor driver.

MrsHGWells · 10/01/2022 17:02

Are… you .. for real! . Haul your butt down to a Sainsburys next time at your leisure, save the driver the trip next time ..

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 10/01/2022 17:02

Would you have got up at 8:29 and stayed in your PJs if so how is it any different to what would have happened other than you had to get up 9 minutes early....I am always quite happy when they come a few mins early as means you aren't waiting around the whole hour for them to arrive.

TheWitchersWife · 10/01/2022 17:03

I've had a food delivery from 45 minutes early before. When I mentioned I was surprised they said its in their T&Cs that they can deliver at anytime.
🤷🏻‍♀️ so he might not even have done anything wrong to either his or his employers rules anyway.

AnotherSillawithanS · 10/01/2022 17:05

Please complain op.

Give them all a really big laugh in HQ.

MadeOfStarStuff · 10/01/2022 17:06

YABU

10 minutes is nothing, certainly not worth complaining about! If you want a lie in, book a later slot.
