AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

@WombatChocolate

What’s wrong with opening the door in dressing gown?

It’s hardly a silk neglige is it? Why any worse than a track suit or some rough old clothes that lots of people wear all the time?

This. The very idea of having to get up, have breakfast, and get dressed and all made up etc, just to take in a pissing food shop delivery, is beak mumsnet batshittery!
PurpleRainlnTheSky · 10/01/2022 23:11

PEAK not beak!

Enough4me · 10/01/2022 23:20

@WombatChocolate how many more do you think will ignore the final comment on page 2 and use this thread to vent? 🤷‍♀️

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/01/2022 00:16

I think it’s fine for them to turn up early, as long as they then wait and are not grumpy if required to wait. You booked the slot you booked after all.

So I don’t think you can really complain in this instance, as it doesn’t sound like he was difficult about it, and it was only a few minutes.

I agree with this! I’ve open the door in my dressing gown or very scruffy many times!

Including the unfortunate time when I thought I’d ordered a 6.30 pm delivery but in fact it was 6.30 am! I had to apologise very profusely to my neighbours who were woken by that one Blush (I mean they didn’t complain but when I contacted to apologise just in case it was clear they’d been woken)

chocolatemademefat · 11/01/2022 00:32

Do you not wash in the morning - or brush your teeth? I wouldn’t want to greet anyone in the morning if I hadn’t done those things.
And I definitely wouldn’t complain about the driver for being ten minutes early - who does that?

SD1978 · 11/01/2022 00:37

I wouldn't be bothered enough to complain- to not be dressed or out of bed, with only 9 minutes to go until your slot, seems kinda poor planning on your part. Half an hour earlier, I could maybe see your frustration .

Seemslikeagoodidea · 11/01/2022 00:53

I use Sainsburys for online shopping, and find that they often arrive a bit early - sometimes a few minutes, sometimes half an hour. At first it was a bit annoying, but now I just expect it and make sure I'm ready earlier, just in case. I would not complain, I doubt it would make any difference as traffic is so unpredictable that when things are running smoothly drivers will often try to deliver early, so they have spare time in case of delays later.

It sounds like you're not a morning person. Me neither, so I always book an evening delivery slot.

TooManyPJs · 11/01/2022 01:35

YANBU I hate anyone being early. I find it very rude and annoying because I am always running behind so it's usually very inconvenient. Much rather they were late than early. Especially in the morning OP. Like you I wouldn't have been up!

Heyiam · 11/01/2022 02:40

I worked as a groceries online team leader for sainsburys for over 10 years and all I can say is I’m sorry their service wasnt what you expected.
I left the company years ago, and can only presume there is much more demand due to the pressure because of covid and delivery drivers now taking higher salary jobs because of brexit there is a much higher percentage of unfulfilled rolls. I think you are being more than unreasonable for even writing this thread if I’m honest.

Plus JS drivers arent legally covered for taking totes to the door of multiple story flats (bar ground floor, or if unique circumstances have been made aware previously). You should have been ready to meet him/her at the door at 08:30. Not expect the poor employee to deal with your dragon breath at the 10th floor or w.e.

I'm now in the intensely privileged position of earning the legendary MN six figures, but I spent a good chunk of my life working in hospitality and retail.

Delivery drivers do a hard job for not a lot of money to make your life easier. Don't be a dick.

Please tell me you're being sarcastic and not the wanker you appear to be.
LunaMuffinTop · 11/01/2022 03:39

YABU be glad he was 10 minutes early I got an Asda delivery at the weekend and chose 4-5 slot it never arrived until 6 and I got no apology for it being delayed and I never complained either it's not the drivers fault.

Heyiam · 11/01/2022 03:56

*aren’t

Cloudnut · 11/01/2022 06:05

Our delivery came 2 hours early a few weeks ago. Luckily we were in as he unpacked the whole thing to the front door before buzzing to say he was there.

I can't believe you are whinging about a delivery being 10 minutes early. Seriously?
Also it takes seconds to throw on a dressing gown and open the door. Honestly the drivers have seen it all and would rather you just opened the door than wait for you to get dressed, they have such a hard job as it is.

Wowjustwow99 · 11/01/2022 07:36

If this is the only thing you have to worry/complain about in life you are very lucky !

gillbillwill · 11/01/2022 07:37

Wow this thread has grown 😂

Also, just to be a stickler for detail, was only going to do the online form, not call. What do you take me for. GrinHmmBlush

I did come back on page 2 and reply, but by all means keep going!

JustDanceAddict · 11/01/2022 07:39

Usually they call if early, but I don’t book for a really early slot or one I need to rush back for in case I’m not ready/back.

gillbillwill · 11/01/2022 07:45

Particular shoutouts for @Bluebluemoon - I've always wanted a song about me! I did a dance to mad life at school so it holds particular value to me. (I obviously complained that I wasn't chosen for the solo section.)Grin (that is a JOKE in case I offend anyone further).

And to my thread mum @WombatChocolate for your support... do we know each other? Grin
