AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

I can imagine sainsburys customer services rolling their eyes at you.

FriendshipsAreHardForMe · 10/01/2022 16:36

YABU. Pick your battles in life

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 10/01/2022 16:37

You're being absolutely ridiculous - you just can't do a driving job to a precise schedule.

Traffic lights, roadworks, accidents and diversions could have all caused him to be late, but equally, the previous five shoppers could have only ordered small orders, meaning he was running slightly ahead of schedule.

It's 10 minutes, you really need to get a grip. Our Tesco order is regularly 20-30 minutes early - it's no big deal. In fact, I like it as I pay for the cheaper, later slot and often get the earlier one for no extra charge Grin

Roselilly36 · 10/01/2022 16:37

YABU

iklboo · 10/01/2022 16:37

Why I work we are down scored for early deliveries.

For 10 minutes? I'd find another employer. Better early by 10 minutes than later - especially if you've booked a slot at a specific time because you have to go out.

Doyourememberthetime · 10/01/2022 16:37

Our Tesco delivery driver came 40 mins early the other day. I don’t mind, they just want to do as quick as possible. I get up late so I wouldn’t dream of getting it delivered so early in the morning. What time were you planning on getting dressed to take the shopping in if your aren’t awake by then?!!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 10/01/2022 16:39

@thismeansnothing

Damn right complain. You've picked a timeslot for a reason.

Why I work we are down scored for early deliveries.

Then your company is just as ridiculous as the OP.

Imagine complaining because a delivery driver was a whole ten minutes early Hmm

RunningInTheWind · 10/01/2022 16:40

Ugh. Rudely awoken by the dustmen. Sad

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2022 16:40

If he's ring early and left, fine. Complain. I guess you're option is to refuse to open the door until 9.30 and see if they wait around. You might not get in from work till 9.30 so early and not waiting would be a valid complaint.

But no, they knocked early, I answered, is like to complain is just pointless and mean

zingally · 10/01/2022 16:41

It's 10 minutes, absolutely not a big deal. YABU.

chaosrabbitland · 10/01/2022 16:42

i wouldnt even have the energy to complain about this trivial thing ,

SleepingStandingUp · 10/01/2022 16:42

@gillbillwill is you were getting up at 9.29 to open the door at 9.30 were you doing it in your nightie?

AramintaLee · 10/01/2022 16:43

I think you've already accepted that YABU but still being in bed and half dressed when you had a delivery potentially due 10 minutes later is unreasonable. Not sure if you expected to just roll out of bed when he rang your doorbell? Poor guy had probably been up and doing the rounds for an hour or two by that point.

melj1213 · 10/01/2022 16:43

YABU - he arrived 10 minutes early, that's hardly a huge chunk of time - an hour early and you might have a point.

Who is still in bed in their pyjamas at 8.20 when you know you have a delivery due at 8.30? If I was due a delivery at 8.30 then I would be up and dressed by about 8.15 at the latest.

I always aim to be available 15/20 minutes either side of any delivery window, I have never understood the people who book a delivery for 5pm when that's the same time that they get home from work and any kind of delay will mean they are late and potentially miss their delivery.

RunningInTheWind · 10/01/2022 16:44

So she was going to haul on the dressing gown of doom at 8:29 and open the door with death breath at 8:30. That poor driver.

OakRowan · 10/01/2022 16:46

YABVU.

Herestoyoucolinrobinson · 10/01/2022 16:46

Mine is sometimes 3 hours early 😂

If it bothered me I'd just shop elsewhere I think.

5keletor · 10/01/2022 16:47

True, although this made me laugh. 😂

If you have a slot 8.30-9.30 you absolutely can't wait until 9.30 to be indoors. The expectation is you're around for the delivery from 8.30 until 9.30.

If OP hadn't answered he'd have waited until 8.30.

saltandpepper234 · 10/01/2022 16:47

My sainsburys food shop just arrived a whole hour early. I’m worried they have noticed we WFH so someone always tends to be around to open the door but this won’t always be the case depending on meetings, appointments etc so YANBU to be annoyed when they come early.

YABU to have still been in bed 10 minutes before your shop was due to arrive

FromageRay · 10/01/2022 16:47

Would you complain if he had been 8 minutes late? If not, let it go. If you would, crack on. At least it will give their Customer Service team a laugh.

MoonlightFancy · 10/01/2022 16:48

It’s a shame he didn’t arrive at 8:30 onwards and as such disrupted your lie in but I do think you are BU to want to complain and make an issue out of it. Given everything that’s going on, with delivery drivers stretched thin to get stuff done, 10 mins really isn’t a big deal. It’s a first world problem honestly.

Redglitter · 10/01/2022 16:48

If your slot had been 11am then yeah fair enough but jeez he was a whole 8 mins late. Don't be ridiculous

PinchOfVom · 10/01/2022 16:49

Haha this happened to me at the weekend - half an hour early! I was actually speechless with surprise!
