AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

gillbillwill · 10/01/2022 16:11

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

I did want to lay in bed til 8.29, which is why I didn't book 8-9!

Just book the 10-11 slot, surely?

Snaketime · 10/01/2022 17:22

YABU driving isn't an exact science it was 10 minutes.

MajorCarolDanvers · 10/01/2022 17:23

If I had a delivery booked for 830 I would not still be undressed and in bed at 820. Especially if drivers are often early.

I think your reaction is totally OTT

mumshouse · 10/01/2022 17:24

Yes do complain. My son used to work for Sainsburys and complaints like yours would see you blacklisted and therefore refused future deliveries

If true, that really would be unreasonable. There must be a lot of people with learning difficulties or neurological conditions who question why a delivery came early the first time it happened. I can't imagine Sainsbury's would be that unpleasant.

OldWivesTale · 10/01/2022 17:24

My ds (18) is stacking shelves in Morrissons; he tells me stories about rude, grumpy women. I didn't quite believe it, but now I do.

PriamFarrl · 10/01/2022 17:25

It’s ten minutes.

Like a PP I try to be about at least 15 minutes before my delivery. During the start of lock down they were up to an hour early, but that’s didn’t bother me, I was grateful to have a delivery.

If I was having an 8:30 delivery I would be up, washed and dressed by 8:15.

anditgoesonandon · 10/01/2022 17:26

YAB-massively-U do you know how many drops these drivers are expected to do? The reason he was early is likely because he started early in his own time to try and get all the drops in.

If the first thought you have is to complain and get someone in trouble when all they did was arrive 10 minutes early, then you need some experience in a public facing role.

Clapping for the essential workers didn't last long did it?

mumshouse · 10/01/2022 17:26

I did want to lay in bed til 8.29, which is why I didn't book 8-9!

That sounds stressful to me. You wanted to race the clock or something? If he'd turned up at 8:30 on the dot you'd still have been a bit flustered. As well as unshowered and uncoffeed. Sort your organizational skills out, you'll be more relaxed.

Gonnagetgoing · 10/01/2022 17:27

Generally with online shopping (I have 2 supermarket shops with different slots throughout the month) - I find that with both they're on time and rarely earlier than when the slot starts.

I wouldn't be that annoyed with a driver turning up early as I'm up by then. You should really book the later slot (10-11) if you really don't want to be woken up/aren't dressed earlier).

4pmwinetimebebeh · 10/01/2022 17:27

YABU and quite frankly ridiculous. Who plans anything and gets up with one minute to spare. Insanity.

SpritzingAperol · 10/01/2022 17:28

nah OP you're overthinking. You lost 9 minutes sleep. Seriously get over it. There is so much else out there to get annoyed about.

Nanasueathome · 10/01/2022 17:29

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

If you're not happy, maybe you could shop in store at a time to suit you?
I was just coming on to say this OP, perhaps online shopping is not for you
Staffy1 · 10/01/2022 17:29

It’s not so much the being early as not warning you. Most of the time they phone ahead and ask, which is fine.

ifoundthebread · 10/01/2022 17:31

@thismeansnothing

Damn right complain. You've picked a timeslot for a reason.

Why I work we are down scored for early deliveries.

My company also marks down for early deliveries. Which would be okay if the system didn't tell the drivers they need to leave the store 27 minutes before the first delivery a 4 minute drive away 🤦🏼‍♀️
Hopeisnotastrategy · 10/01/2022 17:32

@gillbillwill

YABVU.
AutumnAlmanack · 10/01/2022 17:32

How could you be both 'still in bed' and 'half dressed at this point'? Doesn't make sense.

You would actually get straight out of bed at precisely 8.30 - not washed or dressed - to receive a supermarket delivery? How peculiar. I would make sure I was washed, dressed, ready and waiting for the delivery by 8.15 at the latest.

comingintomyown · 10/01/2022 17:33

@Cochabamba

Listen to yourself! You have food delivered to your door and it's ten minutes early and you're complaining! Do you know how privileged you are?
Agree absolutely ridiculous you would even think of it never mind start a thread. Grow up.
RedCandyApple · 10/01/2022 17:34

I’m awaiting a Sainsbury’s deliver atm actually and tbh I always make sure I’m downstairs and ready before the actual time as they usually come early/late. Ive never had a phone call to say they are coming early, they just turn up

BellaChagall · 10/01/2022 17:34

I can't believe you'd be so bothered about this and, even more surprising, so bothered that you'd think of complaining.

SpritzingAperol · 10/01/2022 17:35

Also on reflection what clockwork, to the minute, time table world do you live in that you're even thinking about complaining about 10 mins in this scenario.
The delivery person is driving through traffic and unloading groceries. Not keeping to a NASA space shuttle count down. You are being very very insular.

DreamingofTimbuktu · 10/01/2022 17:35

To answer your question, yes you’re being a cranky old witch

Cryalot2 · 10/01/2022 17:37

Your delivery is 10 minutes early ! I only wish that that was all we had to get annoyed about.
Possibly the driver thought they were being helpful having your delivery early, but clearly not.

Complain if you feel you must, but certainly I wouldn't.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/01/2022 17:39

he should have apologised

Chouetted · 10/01/2022 17:39

I get it. Mine turned up half an hour early.

I was in the bath, so I answered wrapped in a towel, not thinking it was the delivery.

They used to call ahead and give you a headsup. At least I was only in the bath and we can laugh about it. It would have been much more awkward if I'd been in a meeting.
