To hate cats

They keep shitting in my front garden. We have gravel down (not our choice - old owners and can't afford to change)
We live in a classic Victorian Terrance in SW London. There are cats everywhere but we keep getting crap by our bins at the front. I know gravel doesn't help but what can I do? It's driving me nuts. Ughhhhh

Yabvu......cats are superior beings and rule over humanity. The shit is annoying though....pethaos its a " gift.,"
Most cats are very clean and will dig a hole to poop in.

malificent7 · 08/01/2022 07:30

Perhaps*

malificent7 · 08/01/2022 07:33

The trouble is, you cannot train a cat . You can lock them in the house and never let them out but that's it. Its unfair on the animal. The owners are not selfish....cats aren't ruled by anyone.

Offmyfence · 08/01/2022 08:15

@GladAllOver

Cats are vermin. End of.
No they're not. End of.

The owners are selfish. They could have chosen any other pet that doesn’t have the “right to roam and shit in other people’s gardens

But no, the shitting killing machines are the ones they go for.

We know it’s not foxes here thanks to the Ring doorbell. And no, cats don’t “bury their shit” or even attempt to.

PinkSyCo · 08/01/2022 09:21

YANBU. If I let my dog out to shit in all my neighbours gardens I’m sure they’d have something to say about it, yet I’m supposed to put up with their cats using my garden as their toilet. Angry

DontKeepTheFaith · 08/01/2022 09:22

The vitriol from some posters about cats is very sad. Cats make lovely companions and are beloved pets for many.

You never seem to get the same hatred for dogs. I know they don’t roam but they can be an absolute pain the arse.

My cat does not poo anywhere but the litter tray, definitely does not smell and does not go beyond our garden. She’s basically too dim to jump which judging by some of these posts I’m very grateful for.

It is annoying when cats poo in your garden but there are things you can do. Those electronic cat deterrents for one.

AuntieMarys · 08/01/2022 09:24

I'm fond of cats. Don't have one but have owned one in the past. I don't like dogs particularly especially yapping little fuckers or status symbol ones.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/01/2022 09:35

There are some rather scary posts on this thread.

I have a tween who can hear the screeching sound they make. There are other children in the houses nearby and I don’t want them affected by one of those.

The ones that squirt water aren’t suitable either, as they would also soak the postie, delivery drivers, visitors etc.

fernyflax · 08/01/2022 09:44

I also have a large patch of gravel in my garden that is the neighbourhood litter box. Much worse in summer. I just hose it down. I'm a cat person though so used to shit.

llansanan · 08/01/2022 10:09

I'll leave you to imagine my thoughts. As a cat lover.

Explain why I, a non cat owner, should spend my money stopping other peopels pets crapping in my garden or destroying plants I paid for?

If a dog came into your garden and did the same would you pick up the crap and spend money stopping it coming in?

Do you think its okay to expect other people to be forced to spend money to enjoy their gardens because of your choice?

Whilst youd cat might not go anywhere the majority do.

My neighbour opposite me has 3 cats! I know I see them jump out on their extension and walk along the fence into my garden and crap on my grass, patio, veg...whilst I'm sitting in my lounge or in kitchen washing up so I know who the cats belong to.

So now I pick up the crap and along it over into their garden and its funny how I then hear then moaning about having to pick up cat poo

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/01/2022 10:20

@Nesbo I've seen them pissing up the house across the road a few times, I don't think they've started using my garden to shit in though Grin

I can't say cats were my favourite animal until a few years ago when I helped my friend hand rear kittens

One of them is still here , we've had him from 10 days old and love him very much .

Even though they weren't my favourite animals I'd never have done anything to harm one. Some people on here sound like they shouldn't be around animals or people

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/01/2022 10:22

@Dreamstate have you ever spoken to your neighbour about this? Cats can't help what they do. If my neighbour raised this with me I would make an effort to keep my cat away and would go and pick up the poo but it's not the bloody cat's fault

Yes several times esp after I planted veg and they dug it up and crapped in it. Lost £10 worth of vegetable plants, and also cost me over £20 in flowers too.

I got its not my problem response!

I've then spent money on plastic spikes along my fence £15 a sonic repeller £25 and it doesn't stop them

I bought covers to put over my veg to stop them getting in but they ripped the cover £12 wasted

I've spent £50 buying slate to cover all my beds to stop them ruining flowers..they just crap onto the slate.

I no longer plant veg or buy flowers now. My garden used to be lovely and colourful with plants and I enjoyed gardening but no longer do because whatever I do just gets trashed by the cats. Wasting my money and time!

Dreamstate · 08/01/2022 10:48

So I've spent over £100 in a year...its unreasonable and unacceptable... would you be happy having to do that just to try enjoy your garden.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/01/2022 11:07

@Dreamstate I'm sorry it sounds horrible but the problem is with the neighbour not the cat. I do feel for you though.

WouldIBeATwat · 08/01/2022 11:13

@Dreamstate

Try the cayenne pepper.

warmeduppizza · 08/01/2022 11:21

Outdoor cat owners are incredibly selfish IMO. Don’t inflict your pet on everyone else.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 08/01/2022 18:48

@warmeduppizza

Agree

@Dreamstate

God, your long post encapsulates everything I feel. Well done - outstandingly accurate! 👌🏻

HunkyPunk · 08/01/2022 18:58

You can’t imagine how much it annoys me to glance out of my window, only to see a dog owner gazing down indulgently at their little darling while it cocks its leg and pisses up against my gatepost. Delightful, and not a thing I can do about it other than glower at the owner and go out afterwards with hot water and disinfectant. Life is full of little trials and tribulations!

Dreamstate · 08/01/2022 19:05

Whats selfish is having 3 flipping cats! I mean at a push id get over one doing a poo but 3! Not to mention one was not well and vomited on the patio and left diarrhea all over the grass.

Smell is so horrendous.

I'll try the cayenne pepper.

I'm kinda glad for winter they haven't been out at all.
