To hate cats

205 replies

whatabelter · 07/01/2022 12:00

They keep shitting in my front garden. We have gravel down (not our choice - old owners and can't afford to change)
We live in a classic Victorian Terrance in SW London. There are cats everywhere but we keep getting crap by our bins at the front. I know gravel doesn't help but what can I do? It's driving me nuts. Ughhhhh

@Winniemarysarah

Disgraceful.

RedWingBoots · 07/01/2022 15:07

@ShirleyPhallus

I hate cats, they also smell and anyone’s house who has a cat smells like cat wee (of course there will be 100 posts saying “I have a cat and my house doesn’t smell!”)

I think it’s gross how they’re allowed to roam and shit in anyone’s garden.

No they don't.

I know plenty of people with cats and dogs whose houses don't smell.

They do this thing called cleaning them.

I prefer cats to mice and rats.

StoneofDestiny · 07/01/2022 15:08

Anti cat spikes mixed under the gravel.
Of course it's not unreasonable to not want cat or dog shit on your doorstep or in your garden! It's stinks and is gross.

Flabbyflabberson · 07/01/2022 15:09

Well, you're no peach either.

Team Cats! 🐱🐈

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2022 15:14

@ShirleyPhallus are you ok?
I was never a cat person per se until I got my cat as a kitten and she is lovely. If I'm having an anxious moment or DD is upset over something she is straight there. She never leaves us if we're ill and always wants to sit on your lap or be stroked. Cats aren't evil. They can't help their natural instinct. I saw something the other day that said if you don't like cats you've never been around them. Even my dad, a keen gardener and disliker of cats liked my cat.

WoodenLegs · 07/01/2022 15:14

@fairylightsandwaxmelts

They literally raid the nests in the spring time and kill all the babies. It's horrific.

That's just nature. All predatory animals do this, it's hardly unique to cats!

Are you deliberately missing the fact that cats are BRED by humans? They are not natural.

If cats were wild, they would have the right to kill birds (i.e. 'just nature').

Since cat numbers are artificially high they are not 'natural' and therefore their destructive nature is horrific.

Am I ok? Lol. Yes I’m ok, just a dog person not a cat person. Dislike their smell, the fact they poo everywhere, they kill things, and I’m allergic to them

Few offended cat lovers here. Would be boring if we were all the same 🤷‍♀️

flossie47 · 07/01/2022 15:20

It doesn't offend me that people don't like cats. We are all entitled to our likes and dislikes. It offends me when people are deliberately cruel to them though. Because unlike an animal, humans have a moral code of right/wrong that should dictate that it's not ok to cause pain and suffering to a creature when it's done nothing wrong.

There are many things like annoy me in life. I'm not entitled enough to think they should be hurt or cease to exist just because they go against my personal preferences.

Sakura7 · 07/01/2022 15:23

Dogs aren't exactly angels either. My friend's cat was killed by a dog recently. Not to mention the fact that dogs are actually capable of killing people.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/01/2022 15:23

Dogs kill other animals, birds kill other animals, people kill animals .

If you don't want cats shitting on your front probably best not to make it look like a giant litter tray

Fastforwardtospring · 07/01/2022 15:24

We have this too, no sooner do we clean it up another smelly one appears, worst is when next doors cat is shitting and looking up at me through the window, I can’t let my terrier dog loose out the front, cat doesn’t poo in our back garden cause it knows if I see I will let the dog out. Last summer I cut up lemons, this did the trick for a while, so this year along with sticking more plants in the border I’m going to continue with lemons. The cats turds are bigger than my dogs which being a responsible dog owner we pick up and bin, think it’s about time we tar all cat owners with the same brush about never picking up their cat poo.

Worried456776 · 07/01/2022 15:25

I hate cats too vicious horrible things shitting on everyone’s gardens.

DirectionToPerfection · 07/01/2022 15:27

😂

You want cat owners to follow them round all day, calling into all the neighbours' gardens with a tiny shovel?

You really can't see the difference between owning a cat and a dog?

LuckyMeISeeGhosts · 07/01/2022 15:27

I love mine to death 🥰

BlissfullyIgnorant · 07/01/2022 15:33

YANBU
I got ultrasonic squealers that put some cats (and foxes!) off but not all are repelled by the noise. As far as I've read, you need a combination of things; squealers, smelly pellets, smelly plants (I once tried curry plants, which were ok, but one little sod dug them up Angry), spiky things...
I've also been told citrus peel and broken glass but I can't see how that would be productive as the glass is cruel and the peel won't last, plus your garden would look like a tip. I did get some fence spikes but never used them as I thought they were too sharp. In the end, one was so resilient I took to shooting it with a water sprayer. That worked in the end but you have to basically hide in your garden at the right time. Even my dog didn't put it off. I think the squealer/pellet combo is the safest for all

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/01/2022 15:37

Well, I have a fox that comes and shits on my driveway regularly. I shovel it up and give the area a spray, but you know, shit happens.

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/01/2022 15:39

I have never owned, seen or heard of a cat that does that. Magpies on the other hand.

Of course I can, I’m also aware that shops sell litter trays which cats can poop in, responsible cat owners should keep their cats in. If they want outside space, get an enclosed run. Responsible cat owner near me has one and takes it for a walk on a lead.

Motion detectors work for me. They keep the cats out of my garden. They set off a sound if they detect movement (settings for cat)

I disliked them intensely because they used to crap in my beautiful garden and kill the birds which I feed.

@AndAnotherNewOne

Jeyes fluid around where they go.
Jeyes fluid contains a chemical that is highly toxic to cats and that they cannot remove if is gets absorbed through their skin or if they lick it off their fur. Unless treated in time, they’ll die a slow and painful death.

That’s what you’re recommending, is it, @AndAnotherNewOne?

Nesbo · 07/01/2022 15:49

Don’t mind cats but dislike that people are allowed to purchase them (and therefore supposedly be responsible for them) but then allow those cats to become a nuisance to other people.

I hate fox poo too, but no one owns the foxes, no one breeds them, no one is feeding them so no one is responsible for the nuisance they cause.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/01/2022 15:51

You'd hate my cat, he went in next door, shat in his bath then stole his chicken breastfed he'd just made for dinner

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/01/2022 15:51

Breast not breastfed

WalkingOnSonshine · 07/01/2022 15:53

I hate those sonic things, I can hear them & the sound goes through me.

Used tea leaves or coffee grind are effective and cheap.
