To hate cats

whatabelter · 07/01/2022 12:00

They keep shitting in my front garden. We have gravel down (not our choice - old owners and can't afford to change)
We live in a classic Victorian Terrance in SW London. There are cats everywhere but we keep getting crap by our bins at the front. I know gravel doesn't help but what can I do? It's driving me nuts. Ughhhhh

Oh look .., the weekly thread about cat poo.

hamstersarse · 07/01/2022 16:05

Well I did learn something today - according to the RSPB there is no proof that cats are seriously harming bird populations.

I still hate the slaughter of my birds though

RsSPB can't risk plummeting membership numbers and bad press. Of course they're not going to come out and say cats impact birds

I hate fox poo too, but no one owns the foxes, no one breeds them, no one is feeding them so no one is responsible for the nuisance they cause

One pf my neigbours used to feed the foxes , nothing would get her to stop.
They shit everywhere , it stinks .
When I had guinea-pigs they lived in a Pighouse that Fort Knox could've taken tips from.

I know have cats ( the guineas have gone through old age)
Our cats run into the house to use the tray then go out so I am pretty convinced any poph is not theirs outside .(Except once in a tall plantar , Male Cat hovered over it to dump Hmm )

Dogs aren't exactly angels either. My friend's cat was killed by a dog recently.

It's sad that your friends cat was killed but this is kind of just nature being nature. Cats kill birds and small rodents. Dogs chase small furries including cats. If you let your cat out loose then you can't complain if it gets chased by a dog in it's own garden for example. Cats can be kept inside and gardens secured.

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/01/2022 16:19

@AndAnotherNewOne

Jeyes fluid around where they go.
And that will also harm or even kill, plants, insects, birds, and other mammals. Well done you.
Geppili · 07/01/2022 16:36

Replace small gravel with river stones.

FrankGrillosWrist · 07/01/2022 16:41

I really do hate cats.

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/01/2022 17:03

Don’t mind cats but dislike that people are allowed to purchase them (and therefore supposedly be responsible for them) but then allow those cats to become a nuisance to other people

This. It's so unfair.

Petrarkanian · 07/01/2022 17:12

I'm amazed someone is suggesting poisoning cats and another is saying to kill them.

What the hell is going in in their heads?

AndAnotherNewOne · 07/01/2022 17:18

Except there aren't many of those on the gravel, which is where the cat shit is. Did you not read the OP?

GoLittleRockstar · 07/01/2022 17:20

It’s funny that you think the period, style or location of your home is relevant.

They are cats not Hyacinth Bucket.

And YABU.

BertieQueen · 07/01/2022 17:23

Can not stand cats and one of the reasons is cat poo.

We have thankfully just moved house before Xmas, the house before had a garden that was in the middle of all the gardens so the cats used it constantly to get to other gardens. I counted 10 cats going in and out my garden in 1 day. They went to the toilet, dug at the soil and left dead pigeons in my garden regularly. It drove me insane I did everything I could to stop them but nothing worked. We couldn’t use our own garden because of them.

I’m over the moon that I don’t have to deal with them anymore. Our new garden seems to be cat free.

Has always amazed me that cat owners think it’s acceptable for their cats to do this, and they are usually the ones who moan at dog poo not being picked up by the odd bad dog owner Hmm

The point is that posters who complain about evil cats killing the local wildlife have no issue with dogs.

I hate cats shitting in my garden too. Unfortunately it's my cat, mostly. Little sod.

WotsitsMadeIn1927 · 07/01/2022 17:54

I have two cats I love dearly. I also understand they can be little shits. Cats hate lavender, maybe spraying that on your gravel? They also don’t like citrus. My dad used to have lavender plants in his garden for this reason… he used to find a sweet tabby asleep in it though!

MotherNaturesSon · 07/01/2022 17:59

I'd take that over an irritating barking dog any day

eagerlywaitingfor · 07/01/2022 18:04

@WoodenLegs Of course cats are natural.

We have native wild cats in the UK. Felis silvestris.

WoodenLegs · 07/01/2022 18:20

Yes of course! Those are wild cats.

If cats hadn't been domesticated and we had only wildcats in this country it would be very different.

Domestication may not have changed the animal (although it may have, I don't know) but it has changed the volume and location of them.

WoodenLegs · 07/01/2022 18:22

@Sakura7 I think people have issue with domesticated animals running rampant and killing wild animals. Dogs or cats. Or domesticated terrapins for that matter. The point is that dogs rarely do.

Butchyrestingface · 07/01/2022 18:28

I'm highly allergic to cats so was never socialised around them. Hence I am faintly terrified of them - scratchy, unpredictable beasties.

And then, of course, my dogs, my parrots and my goldfish hated them - and whatever they hate, I hate.

SteggySawUs · 07/01/2022 18:36

YANBU!
Most effective things after years of trial and error (and expense) are criss crossing rose cuttings across the flowerbeds, and planting marigolds.
Hateful animals.

YABU

Cats don't understand property. As far as they're concerned it's just a bit of earth.

Do you also get upset if a bird has the audacity to crap on your car or window?
