To hate cats

whatabelter · 07/01/2022 12:00

They keep shitting in my front garden. We have gravel down (not our choice - old owners and can't afford to change)
We live in a classic Victorian Terrance in SW London. There are cats everywhere but we keep getting crap by our bins at the front. I know gravel doesn't help but what can I do? It's driving me nuts. Ughhhhh

Cats are vermin. End of.

HikingforScenery · 07/01/2022 22:22

Yanbu
I’m not a fan either
I see the requirement to toilet train cats in the future. I’ve seen videos of cats using the toilet and flushing. Aaah, one can hope.

JeSuis · 07/01/2022 22:25

I like cats fine, but don't like their poo...obviously. I had a friend who hated cats. I think they sensed it as one once came and relieved itself on her decking whil maintaining fixed, unblinking eye contact with her through her kitchen window. She was going bananas inside, but the cat just stared at her while it did a poo. So maybe they target cat haters! Bewaaaaaare!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 07/01/2022 22:30

@Nesbo

If all we had in this country were wildcats I would grumble to myself and get on with my day.

But when the reason I’m constantly unearthing cat shit in my garden is because I’m surrounded by people who are buying them and bringing them here as their possessions, but then letting them roam around and shit in their neighbours gardens, I do feel that it’s fair to feel pissed off about it.

Basically if you own a cat that wanders around your neighbourhood shitting everywhere, don’t you dare complain about any of your neighbours being antisocial with noise, parking or whatever (or at least don’t complain without being aware of your hypocrisy and the nuisance that you’re causing them).

What? So I can't complain about the drug dealers down the road because my cat might shit in people gardens 🤣 OK then
AhNowTed · 07/01/2022 22:42

Cats are extremely clean. No cat I've ever had will defecate on solid ground. Their instinct is to bury it.

Unfortunately OP you've basically provided a big litter tray.

In fact in my old house, we had a little gravel area for this very purpose.

Ditch the gravel and problem solved.

You could try various treatments like garlic etc, but essentially I'm afraid you've provided the ideal toilet.

Twinklingstarface · 07/01/2022 22:46

May they continue to shit on your doorstep for as long as your attitude towards animals continues

caringcarer · 07/01/2022 22:49

Cats are wonderful. Of you have gravel the cat will think it is a giant litter tray. Yabvvu.

Frollop · 07/01/2022 23:01

Don't F**k with Cats!
There is a Netflix documentary... looks scary.

I think it's probably Fox poo...we get it by the bins.

No hate...just love to all. Poo comes and goes x

Nesbo · 07/01/2022 23:07

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall - are those drug dealers also shitting in your garden? If not I have no sympathy.*

  • if they are I have just a little sympathy. Wink
Warmduscher · 07/01/2022 23:31

@GladAllOver

Cats are vermin. End of.
I realise you probably think that typing “end of” means you’ve stated a universal and incontrovertible truth, the finality of which has ended the conversation.

But I’m sorry to tell you, you’re wrong. Cats aren’t vermin. You may consider them so, but that’s just your viewpoint.

jimjamgirl · 07/01/2022 23:39

Cats are a total PITA. We have a cat that likes to visit our garden and use our caravan cover as a convenient scratching post. Yep, thanks for that - simultaneously leaving holes in the cover and scratching the caravan. I'll video the little bastard one day and present it to the owners, or remove his/her claws, whichever comes first 🤬

CakenTea · 07/01/2022 23:39

I think the trick is to explain very firmly to the cat that they simply can't be pooping around classic Victorian terraced houses. Helps if you are wearing Toast or Boden, for gravitas.

Dreamstate · 07/01/2022 23:42

Uff I csnf stand them in my garden crampon, digging up flowers or mt veg I've planted. I've had the sensors, the plastic spikds it doesn't stop them

What pisses me off is I dont have a pet cos I dont wanna pick up poo etc. Yet I'm forced to it cos of other peoples lazy choices es. They have cats cos its convenient, less maintenance than a dog sont have to take then for walks etc and if they crap anyone else but theirs owners house great right.

I shouldn't have to spend money on cat proofing my garden, I shouldn't have to see money spent on planefs and veg gone to waste because of someone else's choice to have a pet.

Why should I? And cat owners hide behind thay law about them roaming blah blah but I bet they wouldn't be haply if it happened to their gardens.

I wish I could bill my neighbours everytime their cata destroy my plant and veg or make then come pick up their crap. Time the law was changed.

100% I shouldn't have to pick up stinking cat poo from the middle of my lawn before my DC can play out there. Any cat owner who thinks their cat wouldn't do that is deluded. I shouldn't have to come home to the stench and have to spend time finding its source and binning it. I shouldn't have to experience repeatedly digging it up when gardening. Yes they bury it as well as doing it in the middle of the lawn. I shouldn't have to spend money on devices/deterants to stop the above. I love it when I go to someone's house and they have a litter tray for their cat. Having said cats are hateful animals I take it back... Cats and dogs are lovely... Some of their owners are selfish beyond measure.
jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 08/01/2022 00:36

could be a small fox in a hired fancy dress cat costume

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 08/01/2022 00:37

These threads always amuse me. Foxes taking the blame for every single cat poo. Poor sods. It's like the dog getting told off for every fart.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 08/01/2022 00:38

🤣🤣
jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 08/01/2022 00:40

Alternatively, a rather substantial cat in an XL hired fox fancy dress outfit

People seem to hate any animals that thrive in a human environment. Cats, mice, foxes, pigeons, rats... These are just animals that have managed to adapt and thrive. People love pandas because they're rare, but would hate them if they went through their bins and shat on their door step.

Historically we like to have cats around, because they keep the mice and rat populations down where we store food. You'd all be moaning if we were over run with rats and mice.

CaptainCabinets · 08/01/2022 05:21

I don’t let my cats out anymore because I’m terrified someone will do to them what some posters here are suggesting Sad

@whatabelter: it’s probably foxes, but in the event that it is cats, they don’t like citronella or pepper. Foxes aren’t fussy, I’m afraid.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 08/01/2022 06:13

It’s not an attitude towards animals in general. Just ones that shit in my garden, particularly ones domesticated and owned by someone else (someone selfish).

And the denial on here is hilarious. Eg the woman saying a cat “might” shit in someone’s garden. It’s not “might”, of course it will ffs where else will it go?! The moon?

5keletor · 08/01/2022 07:26

YANBU, they're awful creatures. Only solution we've found that always works so far is a dog that hates cats (and will chase any that are silly enough to still come in the garden).
