To hate cats

whatabelter · 07/01/2022 12:00

They keep shitting in my front garden. We have gravel down (not our choice - old owners and can't afford to change)
We live in a classic Victorian Terrance in SW London. There are cats everywhere but we keep getting crap by our bins at the front. I know gravel doesn't help but what can I do? It's driving me nuts. Ughhhhh

OP posts:
teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2022 14:06

To not do it I mean

ShirleyPhallus · 07/01/2022 14:07

I hate cats, they also smell and anyone’s house who has a cat smells like cat wee (of course there will be 100 posts saying “I have a cat and my house doesn’t smell!”)

I think it’s gross how they’re allowed to roam and shit in anyone’s garden.

Pedalpushers · 07/01/2022 14:09

@Winniemarysarah

I agree with you op. I class them as vermin and treat them as such
Well this sounds incredibly sinister.
hamstersarse · 07/01/2022 14:11

I quite like cats but I HATE them killing all the birds I feed.

They literally raid the nests in the spring time and kill all the babies. It's horrific.

My neighbour, when I asked if he could at least put a bell on the cat, said "she doesn't like them"

There are bad cat owners as well as bad dog owners.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 07/01/2022 14:11

YABVU.

But then a Victorian Terrace in SW London with gravel in front sounds awful.

How do you treat them as vermin?
SnowyPetals · 07/01/2022 14:12

@Tal45

Cats are ok as long as they're not shitting in other people's gardens. It wouldn't be allowed with dogs and shouldn't be allowed with cats and people should have to cat proof their gardens if they are going to let them out. They're supposed to hate citrus, could you put some orange peel down? Or lavender, maybe some pots with that in?
These comments about "cat proofing" your garden always make me smile. What exactly do you think would stop a cat from getting out? The max fence height you are allowed in most areas is 6ft and mine can jump that in a heartbeat.
Tobleroney · 07/01/2022 14:37

I hat cats because they kill wildlife for pleasure and are the only animal allowed to get away with what they do - if dogs were running about shitting everywhere and killing small animals, there would be serious consequences. But sweet puss puss can kill and maim and shit at will. Hate the bastards.

WouldIBeATwat · 07/01/2022 14:39

Cat shit is disgusting.

Dealt with it (finally) by sprinkling dried orange peel and a fuck-ton of cayenne pepper around the front garden. Have new neighbours with a cat that wasn’t here. Just waiting for a dry day to get sprinkling.

gsaoej · 07/01/2022 14:41

I paved my front garden because of a decade picking cat shit out of flower beds.

Winniemarysarah · 07/01/2022 14:42

@AryaStarkWolf we’ve got outbuildings containing small livestock and exotic animals. Cats get treated the same as the rats and occasional fox that manage to break in and injure/slaughter any animals. It was less than 3 weeks ago we had a cat get into a shed and rip through a brooder we thought we’d reinforced well with Perspex and kill a whole batch of rare birds. I’d imported the eggs and they had been incubated and were being hand raised by my children. I had insomnia that night so thought I’d get up early for a stroll to check on the animals, wasn’t nice to go out to hear them screaming and find their little bodies strewn around the shed. It was a few years ago now but a local farmer shot 2 loose dogs that had got into one of his fields and killed a sheep. One of the dogs immediately died, not too sure what happened to the other one but I know the owners didn’t have it after that. I’m sure everyone on here will agree that the farmer was in the right with what he did with the loose dogs, no doubt I deserve to be hung, drawn and quartered for thinking nuisance cats should suffer the same fate. I am actually an animal lover, and that includes cats that aren’t left loose to shit on other peoples property and kill their pets.

@Winniemarysarah you still haven't actually said what you do though, do you mean you kill cats?

That's what I think she meant.

flossie47 · 07/01/2022 14:51

The comparisons between dogs and cats are totally pointless and idiotic. I think we can all agree it would be carnage to have dogs roaming freely like cats do, hence the different laws of ownership. Whether you like it or not, cats are free to roam.

Those who deliberately cause injury or death to animals that are simply acting as nature intended and have no concept that they are doing anything wrong....you are pond life as far as I'm concerned.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2022 14:51

I'm interested to see what you would do then. I've tried asking my cat not kill mice but she doesn't understand me

afizzysweet · 07/01/2022 14:55

YANBU, I don't mind cats that keep to themselves but there are several that come in to my garden every day and poo. I have a dog. He has chased them out of the garden before but they still won't stay away. I've thrown water at them, I've tried the other repellents that are dog friendly (most aren't). Nothing works. My husband throws the shit over the fence back to their owners.

You treat someone's loved pet and family member as vermin? You deserve to be treated in the same way.

So you don't like them in and you don't like them out, what's your solution so?

As for the cats are vermin comment Angry

Cats are fabulous creatures and wonderful companions. There are things you can do to deter them from your garden but complaining about their very existence is a bit much. As a PP said, we share this planet with many other animals and that's just how it is.

flossie47 · 07/01/2022 14:58

@Winniemarysarah sounds like a sad end for the birds but the fault lies with you for not protecting them sufficiently. You can't blame a dumb animal who is only acting on instinct, it could have just as easily been a fox. You sound quite pleased with yourself and it's rather sinister.

My house absolutely doesn't smell like cat in the slightest, because I do this incredible thing called cleaning, I'm not sure if you've heard of it? The other fascinating thing about cats, is you can change their litter regularly! Who knew?!

Moronic comment Hmm

ShirleyPhallus · 07/01/2022 15:01

@Sakura7 I don’t mind them in, I just don’t want them in my house. Or in my garden.

I think all cat lovers could move to one area of the country and all the cats roam free. Everyone who doesn’t like cats could move to the cat free bit and enjoy their poo-free gardens.

Maybe we can designate Birmingham the cat capital of the country and see how that goes

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 07/01/2022 15:01

They literally raid the nests in the spring time and kill all the babies. It's horrific.

That's just nature. All predatory animals do this, it's hardly unique to cats!

My garden is 4 acres. How do I cat proof that?

Fox poo is worse.

Least most cats attempt to bury it.

Foxes use their poo to mark territory.
