Our family love it (but biased as South American’s!)

Opinions!?

I know a lot who have said they think the story is quite weak

My child begged to watch this again after school today. She loves it.

Lou2284 · 06/01/2022 00:11

We love it too! My kids have watched it many times, I love the music. I like the story, it's quite simple, yes. However it entertained my kids

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/01/2022 00:16

Next time you watch it put the subtitles on (unless you are already fluent in the language), although most of the Spanish is fairly obvious the lyrics in the Spanish songs are not and they are important to the storyline.

To everyones annoyance I always watch TV with the subtitles on now, I had an ear infection last year and my hearing never really seemed to fully recover but it was useful for this.

I really enjoyed it and can't stop Luisa pressure being stuck in my head. Sometimes replaced by we don't talk about Bruno.

I realise that I'm unrealistic in my expectations of children's films, but I do wish the magic hadn't come back. I felt the same when they changed the film version of Matilda to keep her magic. It would be great for the end to be- the families magic is being a family and working together. Overcoming obstacles with belief, determination and honesty. The community came together to help them. They became not the leaders but an actual integral part of the community. They had magic when it was needed, I'd have been happy to feel that the magic represents the resilience we show in times of trouble/war/ struggle and then for that to leave when they are safe and and together truely.

My 22 and 18 Yr old were shocked to discover Mumsnet's disparaging remarks on Encanto. They are rating it very highly - in their top 5 Disney films 😁

DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes · 06/01/2022 00:25

We all love it too! Big hit with both the 6 and 8yr old but me and DH also liked if a-lot too. The songs are catchy AF. Found myself humming ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ to myself a lot these past couple of weeks!

AiringOfGrievances · 06/01/2022 00:25

We saw it at the cinema before Christmas and have since seen it again on Disney Plus. Both my teenager and my 8 year old love it.

Jacarandamanda · 06/01/2022 00:31

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime I noticed that too

my mum makes my niece watch it in Spanish with English subtitles - she’s not popular for that 😂😂😂😂

Big hit in our house. After we watched it the first time, 19yr old DD downloaded the soundtrack so we've been singing along to it in the kitchen most days.

Dutchesss · 06/01/2022 00:57

We don't talk about Bruno no.

Jacarandamanda · 06/01/2022 00:59

Pépa you have a cloud!

3*/day. I'm quite glad school has started again so that we are down to once a day. I do quite like the movie and sound track!

baroqueandblue · 06/01/2022 01:17

My niece and nephew (9 and 7) saw it at the cinema a few weeks ago, then again on Disney+ over Christmas. They love it and have mentioned it a lot. They plan to watch it again (and again, no doubt)!

PoppityBoo · 06/01/2022 01:24

Eeek, I’m going against the grain here and saying it was a good film but not a patch on Moana for me!

blubberball · 06/01/2022 03:08

It was pretty good. I liked it.

Foldinthecheese · 06/01/2022 03:13

Between Luca and Encanto, the name Bruno gets a lot more use around our house than it ever did before.

Butchyrestingface · 06/01/2022 05:06

I loved it. 😍

roundtable · 06/01/2022 05:40

We loved it too. I don't agree about the storyline being weak. I thought it was quite deep for Disney. Not so many stories for children about intergenerational trauma. Explaining certain bits to my DC led to some quite thought provoking conversations.

TheWitchersWife · 06/01/2022 05:55

Got the soundtrack to sing along to 😳
It's on when I'm cooking, walking somewhere, in the car, in the shower!!!

bullywee · 06/01/2022 05:58

We preferred Coco in our house.

Encanto was ok - catchy songs - but did find story a bit weak.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 06/01/2022 06:01

I really enjoyed it. DH said he thought it was weak and I told him he was wrong! Grin

Iamnotthe1 · 06/01/2022 06:42

The songs were good but the overall story was a bit weak considering what it could have been. In places, it felt a bit forced and I think they could have done more with it. But it wasn't designed to be one of the major Disney films so comparing it to titles like Moana and Frozen isn't particular fair. It holds up against other minor titles like Soul and Onward.

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 06/01/2022 06:47

We started it but got bored after half an hour and didn't put it on again. I suppose we'll have to finish it at some point. We prefer good plot.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 06/01/2022 06:51

I liked it but felt some parts were a bit rushed, like the bit where she makes up with her perfect sister.

Lucycantdance · 06/01/2022 06:53

We loved it! I felt sad for the main character that all the magic came back but she didn’t have a gift still? Even though I’m an adult I found the story a little bit confusing 😂😂😂
