Our family love it (but biased as South American’s!)

Opinions!?

I know a lot who have said they think the story is quite weak

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 09/01/2022 10:29

I didn’t really enjoy the actual storyline - but the visuals and songs are spectacular.

Thorilicious · 09/01/2022 10:32

I saw it yesterday, and loved it. Lin-Manuel is a genius!
Apparently, Bruno was supposed to be called Oscar, but they changed it so they could sing Bruno-no-no....

Italianna · 09/01/2022 10:34

@TheHamburgler

Got around to watching it last night.

The animation is phenomenal.

The soundtrack isn’t quite to my taste but I can see why others would love it. The chorus to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is as catchy as anything they’ve put out in decades.

As another poster said, it was interesting that they eschewed going out on an adventure in favour of staying in the home, and the general themes were good and fairly unique in a children’s movie.

I do agree that the plot itself was a little limp though. There was a lot of exposition at the start, and I understand the story they were trying to tell, but it felt very underdeveloped.

Would absolutely recommend, but falls short of instant-classic for me.

Your point about it being an adventure in their house @TheHamburgler, rather than far flung adventures, made me wonder if it could be because of us all being required to stay closer to home these last few years, so it shows how we don't need to travel to experience great things?
BurntToastAgain · 09/01/2022 11:24

@RainbowBriteUk

I am so desperate to see Encanto! I don't have children and can't borrow any. Would I be desperately weird to watch it alone at the cinema on a quiet weekday?
It’s on Disney+. You could just watch it at home. 🤣
MaryAndHerNet · 09/01/2022 11:36

@RainbowBriteUk
Go watch it, no one cares if you're on your own. Or get a free Disney+ trial.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/01/2022 11:46

@rainbowBriteUk go watch it, or as a PP said get a Disney+ subscription there is tonnes of adult programming on there from National Geographi, Starr etc I think it's the best value streaming service

Phos · 09/01/2022 12:30

I don’t see the hype around it. It was an average kids film.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/01/2022 15:58

Looking at twitter it looks like there was originally another ending where Mirabel gets her own door and all of the family add things from there own gifts to it.

It also looks like there are going to be a spin series / shorts exploring the other characters gifts which might be why the film felt a bit unfinished. It is unfinished and TBC on Disney+. Which would make sense with the Marvel series es that are linked to the MCU, Wanda vision, loki, Hawkeye etc.

ilovebagpuss · 09/01/2022 16:01

@MaryAndHerNet thanks I was exaggerating slightly but I see you very much enjoyed it. My DD’s love it I just felt it needed a bit more of a story. I think I need to accept it for what it is more of a sweet folk story about family ties.

Helocariad · 09/01/2022 16:30

The intergenerational trauma is a real thing for many immigrant families, it's really quite beautiful to see it on film for kids.

This

Helocariad · 09/01/2022 16:33

....though the theme of family dysfunction has a wider relevance beyond immigrant families too obv.

All the bedroom doors were in their not yet assigned state at the end.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but for the Encanto lovers on here, have you seen this? 😀

Helocariad · 23/01/2022 20:26

Yes, brilliant 👏 👌 😊

mamma2013 · 23/01/2022 20:44

I enjoyed it. My daughter told me that the glasses were to show she is more 'flawed'and not as 'perfect' as the rest of her family.

Princesspickle777 · 23/01/2022 20:48

I liked it but didn’t find it amazing. DD (4) lost interest within about 45 minutes so I watched it on my own while she played 😅. I found it quite rushed in parts and I was getting lost figuring out what was going on (but that’s probably just me). The ended I felt was a bit ‘meh’. Could definitely have been better.

ecoanxiety · 23/01/2022 20:50

@kittenkipper

I really enjoyed it and can't stop Luisa pressure being stuck in my head. Sometimes replaced by we don't talk about Bruno.

I realise that I'm unrealistic in my expectations of children's films, but I do wish the magic hadn't come back. I felt the same when they changed the film version of Matilda to keep her magic. It would be great for the end to be- the families magic is being a family and working together. Overcoming obstacles with belief, determination and honesty. The community came together to help them. They became not the leaders but an actual integral part of the community. They had magic when it was needed, I'd have been happy to feel that the magic represents the resilience we show in times of trouble/war/ struggle and then for that to leave when they are safe and and together truely.

I agree. I believe the natural ending was when mirabel had her hand on the doorknob. I would have shut it off to black there.
Treaclepie19 · 23/01/2022 21:09

It's my favourite Disney film. I haven't been able to really get into a Disney film like this since I was a child.
Even now crying at the bit with young Abuela and Abeulo.

Sparticle · 25/01/2022 17:04

Do you think there will be a 'making of' like there was for Frozen 2? I found that really fascinating (and for me it explained why the plot is similarly dodgy, but that's another thread!) and it would be brilliant to see L-MM's song writing in progress.

StellaGibs · 25/01/2022 17:06

7 foot frame, RATS along his backkk

Nosetickle · 25/01/2022 17:32

I think we might be largely responsible for getting we don’t talk about Bruno to number one 😆 it’s been on repeatedly in our house/car ever since we watched it. Such a great song we never get bored with listening to it!

Rewis · 25/01/2022 17:34

I really enjoyed it and have been listening to the soundtrack!

Helocariad · 25/01/2022 18:44

god yes, that gets me every.single.time.

Frankola · 25/01/2022 19:43

We love it. We're also big fans of Moana. Our Alexa runs through those soundtracks every day 🤣

homeappliances · 27/01/2022 11:01

We LOVE Encanto! Pleased to find this thread and enjoyed reading other's thoughts. The songs are amazing, the story line is fab, the characters and colours are so vibrant - Enanto is definitely in our Top 3 of Disney movies! Today is the fourth time I've watched it, and i like noticing something new each time. I like to think Mirabel gets a new room at the end.
