At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Kipling treacle tart

These were things that for some reason we only had on our annual uk self catering holiday in Cornwall

Toast Toppers
Pink Panther Bars
Ringo's

Pearlpink · 02/01/2022 20:46

Faggots!

SlashBeef · 02/01/2022 20:47

Pop Tarts but they don't seem as nice now so I don't bother. Maybe they were never nice though.. just sweet.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/01/2022 20:47

I know exactly what you mean! I remember them with beans and chips. It was more like a cheese sandwich spread than actual cheese inside. Delicious! I really miss sausage plait. I know it would be easy enough to make but I want the school one. I also miss school gravy. Evidently it’s still as delicious as my son loves school gravy but resolutely refuses mine.

@DeepaBeesKit I introduced my 3 to Spam - they love it!

CatsArePeople · 02/01/2022 20:50

Particular brands of fish fingers. Sometimes international shops have them.

delilahbucket · 02/01/2022 20:51

Toast toppers and Findus Crispy Pancakes, which are not the same without the salt and sugar content they once had 😂

Kingsruby · 02/01/2022 20:51

Sara Lee double chocolate gateau

Mrsjayy · 02/01/2022 20:52

I loved sausage plait it was my favourite school dinner, we had cheese twists at school in sure it was just dairylea wrapped in puff pastry though !

SertralineThrash · 02/01/2022 20:52

@Pearlpink real faggots from a good butcher are a thing of beauty! We had some venison ones recently, sooooo good Grin

ProudThrilledHappy · 02/01/2022 20:52

Corned beef hash. Like a corned beef cottage pie. Absolute heaven!

And pink custard

KohlaParasaurus · 02/01/2022 20:52

Macaroni cheese pies.

Brigante9 · 02/01/2022 20:52

At primary, we had lumps of iced cake with pink custard. Just the best.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/01/2022 20:53

Heinz sandwich spread. I mean, it looked like vomit but it tasted amazing.

EmmaH2022 · 02/01/2022 20:55

There was something called supermousse when I was little. I think it was stored in the freezer. No one seems to remember it. I think we had it once or twice, I loved it, my dad looked at the E numbers and decided not to buy it again!

whatever1980 · 02/01/2022 20:57

Beanies at school - beans in scotch egg type thing it was the school face

Mrsjayy · 02/01/2022 20:57

Oh supermousse I remember, raspberry ripple was my favourite 😋

Sparklydiplodocus · 02/01/2022 20:57

Findus crispy pancakes. They were absolute crap but the ham and cheese ones were so yummy!

twominutesmore · 02/01/2022 20:58

Thank you for reminding me about faggots.

Also Frey Bentos pies, spam fritters and drunken university Pot Noodles. All bloody awful now but not in my memory.

Pinkstegosaurus · 02/01/2022 20:58

@Brigante9 omg yes! Pink custard and cake I can taste it now! In a similar vein I’d like to add iced tray bake vanilla cake.

Pinkstegosaurus · 02/01/2022 20:59

And Arctic roll

twominutesmore · 02/01/2022 20:59

Also Vespa/vesta (can't remember) ready meals. The curry had what were essentially Quavers sprinkled on top. Loved them.

TrainspottingWelsh · 02/01/2022 21:01

Oddly enough dsd was reminiscing earlier about the fact school lasagne was better than any version she's had since.
Wham bars. Not the modern version, the type that removed wobbly teeth with loads of popping candy.
Roast potatoes and cheese. I'm fairly sure my adult attempts taste better than the primary school version but they don't seem to hit the spot in the same way.
