At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Mini kievs!!

Stigsmother · 02/01/2022 21:30

I remember Baked Bean pizzas, loved them.
There were other BB products as well, but the pizzas were the best

userxx · 02/01/2022 21:32

@EmmaH2022

There was something called supermousse when I was little. I think it was stored in the freezer. No one seems to remember it. I think we had it once or twice, I loved it, my dad looked at the E numbers and decided not to buy it again!

Supermousse!!! Just had a flashback.

Mudflaps · 02/01/2022 21:32

Boil in the bag curry and rice, my friend still slags me for insisting on having one while she was timing my labour pains as we waited for the ambulance, I was convinced I'd be days in labour and starving, turned out to be 2 hours 20 minutes from first pain to delivery, only just made it to the hospital, never liked those curry's afterwards though, I expect they're long gone off the market, that was 30 years ago.

gavisconismyfriend · 02/01/2022 21:32

@LadyMaid Greggs still do macaroni pies in Scotland!

Floppy234 · 02/01/2022 21:32

Oh I remember supermousse!!

Pocket pizza rolls! Like round bread rolls filled with tomatoey cheese/ pepperoni. Think they re released but not the same.

Heinz bean pizzas!!!! Omg they did a sausage one which was amazing!!!!

Secret chocolate bars
Pyramid chocolates
Mingles
Spirals
Astros

Marks and Spencer's did these amazing crisps they were in shape of chicken drumsticks and chips or burger and chips.

Holothane · 02/01/2022 21:33

Spindelina · 02/01/2022 21:35

@Matbest

Mini kievs!!
Any highly processed chicken Kiev, where you're not entirely sure when (if ever) it saw a chicken.

I'm picky about welfare standards these days, but M&S do a vegan version (full size or mini) which bears almost as much resemblance to chicken as the original.

Really? In which location?

I have only ever had them in Scotland mind. Been living in England since my 20s.

I went into one after several years, whilst visiting Scotland, and was told they no longer do them.
This was in Edinburgh.

Looubylou · 02/01/2022 21:38

Texan bars. I'm in my 50's and I had lots of different mousses. I remember lemon and lime, and a chocolate topped mint one. Cola flavoured jelly cubes.

Roasteros · 02/01/2022 21:38

"When you get to the end of your Supermousse, Bird's Eye Supermousse, when you get to the end of your Supermousse, pop goes your heart."

I can still hear the jingle.

@Smokeahontas

Baked Beans pizza! No one else ever remembers this :(
Yes! I remember!!
mumofEandE · 02/01/2022 21:42

@Tillymintpolo

Ice magic, you poured it on ice cream and it went hard.
I've seen this in supermarkets on sale still - when I was little I was fascinated by it!
BreakfastOfWaffles · 02/01/2022 21:46

@rc22

Angel Delight Wham bars Highland toffee - can you still buy that north of the border? Has it just disappeared here in England? Ice magic - chocolate sauce that you put on your ice cream that then set
I came on to say all of those things! I remember being beside myself when they brought out the orange flavour Ice Magic.

Sundella drinks in glass bottles you'd have to return - Carribean Crush was my favourite but google holds no evidence!

Yes to school food - those saying sausage plait have unlocked a memory I'd forgotten. Pink custard too and bakewell slice (which i think was toast with jam and icing sugar!).

My school also used to do this amazing mint and chocolate biscuit slice. Saw something very similar in a bakery recently but it was vile - so strong and rich.

My tastebuds were formed with bland, cheap, tasteless things in the rural north in the 80s (not saying that was all that was around, but it was all we were given) so it's a lifelong mission to embrace seasoning and flavour.

OhWhyNot · 02/01/2022 21:48

Ginger cake with the sweet/sour lemon custard

Findus crispy pancakes the cheese ones

Little mousse pots that

Very special occasions baked Alaska (only had it once h by the the experience stayed with me)

Gingerkittykat · 02/01/2022 21:49

Macaroni pies are still a staple in most bakers in Scotland, I don't go to Greggs so I don't know if they sell them in Scotland.

Yes, you can get Highland Toffee and Irn Bru bars from specialist sweet shops.

I miss toast toppers too.

I used to love mini kievs and bought a packet from Asda recently and they are as good as I remembered them to be.

HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 21:49

Supermousse. We used to get it every week.
Sara Lee Chocolate Gateau, used to get them when I was in college.
Anything Philleas Fogg, salty delicious-ness!
Piece Of Cake, a cake shop that used to be in train stations. Does it still exist anywhere?
There was also a sandwich one, I can’t remember the name... Used to do a gorgeous ham & cheese baguette.
Sainsbury’s used to do a pack of cakes (the sort of little slice to have with a cup of tea) with four different flavours. Two carrot cake, two lemon, two chocolate & I think maybe a bakewell type of one... Loved them!
Safeway jam tarts, when I didn’t have the money for proper cakes.
Cadbury Roses when they came in bags, at the petrol station. Back when both the chocolate & flavours were delicious!
Bags of Cadbury Mini Creme Eggs. The ones from 20 years ago.

I could go on & on...

I can actually remember vividly & actually taste most of my favourite foods, over the years. Even specific meals in certain restaurants, from different stages of my life, young & old. I often ate out by myself, as well. Food is something I’ve never scrimped on, and when I wasn’t flush I could find the best things on any menu for less than a tenner. So many foodie memories...

Flowerpower23 · 02/01/2022 21:49

If anyone has the recipe for the school style iced traybake with hundreds and thousands and the chocolate school tray bake with chocolate icing, please send me them! I’ve been dreaming about them since I left school!

FastnetLundyRockall · 02/01/2022 21:49

Dripping on toast was the best. Haven't had it in decades.

Nowayoutonlydown · 02/01/2022 21:50

Fried spam and home chips. We used to call it special bacon.

I bought asdas knock off version and it's been sat in the cupboard for weeks. Might have some if I can get this heartburn to fuck off

GeorgieO · 02/01/2022 21:50

Findus (sp?) crispy pancakes. Fried. Especially the minced beef version. Newer bolognaise versions never cut it. So so wrong on so many levels!

HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 21:50

I also remember the first time I went to Marks & Spencer (I think it was in Brighton). I’d love to revisit some of my favourites from there... I can still taste them!

pastypirate · 02/01/2022 21:52

Never had all this at the vegetarian hippy school. Only burgers made out of sosmix which I think is also gone 😢
