At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Do they still make Frosties sweeties? They were good.

MostTacticalNameChange · 02/01/2022 21:52

KP Choco Dips and Melody Pops were amazing too - both still around in very select local shops...possibly from original 80s/90s stock deliveries.

pastypirate · 02/01/2022 21:52

Though I miss the cheese crispy pancakes I bloody loved them!

Tangerine32 · 02/01/2022 21:53

When I was a teenager in the 90s I remember pastries with a cheese and tomato filling that you put in the toaster. Maybe called Pizza Pockets or something like that. I still look for them but never seen them since.

pastypirate · 02/01/2022 21:54

Spira chocolate bars.

M and s mountain bars bit like a toblerone

Getyourjinglebellsinarow · 02/01/2022 21:55

Chocolate crunch but without the chocolate. I've tried to make one and it just wasn't right. Also those cornflake cakes that were soggy on the bottom 🤣

Fish in parley sauce, I have no idea why, not a particular fan of fish!

leafe · 02/01/2022 21:56

Cheese and onion fried.

Cook the onions in a frying pan until golden then add cheese, it will melt lovely. Spoon onto soft white bread covered with brown sauce. Really comforting.

Cakes from our local bakers when I was a kid, rum flavoured truffle thing. It was chocolate and rum flavoured, soft and squidgy, covered in chocolate sprinkles. Haven’t seen them in years.

airforsharon · 02/01/2022 21:57

@cobblers123

My dad has mentioned Kunzle cakes recently they were cup cake sort of things with soft coloured butter icing and the cup cake shell was chocolate.

No one I've mentioned them to has known of them but I do have a vague memory my mum bought them and they were made by Lyons.

You absolute diamond! I LOVED these when i was a child but couldn't remember enough about them to describe them well enough to search. I just looked on Google & these are them. My Mum used to buy a box from the Co-op every week and i'd spend ages choosing the one i wanted. I was around 5 at the time.

Rum baba? Is that what it was?
HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 21:58

Upper Crust was the sandwich place. Does that still exist? Is it still good?

I remember when Pret first opened. My favourites were the BLT & the Brie, tomato & basil baguette.

I also remember when Starbucks was Seattle Coffee Co & the muffins (and coffee, the Mocha was divine) were really something special, unlike now.

There was also a chain, I can’t think of it, and I used to go to the one in Ealing for toasted sandwiches. All that lovely melting cheese... And a big pot of tea.

I also had the Afternoon Tea (chips, beans, fried egg, sausages & bacon. With tea & toast) in Debenhams quite a bit when I was a student. I couldn’t cook!

kittensinthekitchen · 02/01/2022 21:59

Oh god, now I want Toast Toppers.

My mum sometimes heats up a can of creamed mushrooms and puts it on toast, a la toast toppers. I'll need to pick up a can.

MissyB1 · 02/01/2022 21:59

@pastypirate
No a rum baba is sponge isn’t it? These were more like a giant chocolate truffle.

DP2019 · 02/01/2022 22:01

@Smokeahontas

Baked Beans pizza! No one else ever remembers this :(

MamaWeasel · 02/01/2022 22:01

Chocolate cracknell from the school dining room. Also pink custard.

Toast toppers
Sandwich spread
Findus crispy pancakes
Potato puffs
Piglets
Nutty bar
Sara Lee double chocolate gateaux
Romantica (anyone remember that?)

melisma · 02/01/2022 22:05

@Smokeahontas I remember them! They were the cuisine of choice at my 16th birthday party to soak up all the contraband Archers and Malibu

Vampirethriller · 02/01/2022 22:07

A toffee pecan Pavlova that Iceland did in the 90s.
Romantica frozen gateau with the little balls.

cobblers123 · 02/01/2022 22:08

Airforsharon:

My mum worked for the Co-op! Grin

Fatgalslim · 02/01/2022 22:09

Tastes like shit now though, greasy and nothing like chocolate

Couchbettato · 02/01/2022 22:10

Those microwave donner kebabs in a pita, that came with that weirdly unspicy chilli sauce, and microwave 1 minute fries in a box.

I haven't had them for like 20 years but I distinctly remember their flavour and I'd love some as a cheeky, dirty, guilt free nostalgic reminder if I knew where to find them these days.

Benjispruce5 · 02/01/2022 22:10

Cornflake tart with custard.

melisma · 02/01/2022 22:11

@pastypirate oh God yes, I loved a Spira bar! We used to try and drink a cup of tea through them like a straw.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 02/01/2022 22:11

Any one remember Danish Apple or Danish custard bars? OMG those with ambrosia custard we’re incredible. Could have been Sarah Lee?
