At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Upper Crust is still in Euston Station I think.

Benjispruce5 · 02/01/2022 22:12

Yea @AtleastitsnotMonday my mum used to buy them for a Sunday dinner pudding.

SwishSwishBisch · 02/01/2022 22:13

Danepak cheese & bacon grills. Horribly processed smoked bacon formed into rectangles with a layer of onion-y cheese on top, covered in breadcrumbs.
Absolutely filthy but omg they were so GOOD.

HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 22:13

The one in Euston Station is the Upper Crust I used to go to!

Fatgalslim · 02/01/2022 22:14

@Fatgalslim

Tastes like shit now though, greasy and nothing like chocolate
That was in response to the ice magic.

I miss FT5K (feed the 5 thousand) sandwich shops, their baguettes were the best ever

TommyShelby · 02/01/2022 22:15

@HelloBunny my dad used to work for Seattle coffee company and the coffee was definitely better! Smell of coffee still reminds me of him and I think always will.

SwishSwishBisch:

Bacon cheesy grills, oh I love those. I used to buy them in Lidl but haven't seen them for a while.

I'm going to look on Tuesday to see if they do actually still have them. Bloody lovely!!Grin

ashorterday · 02/01/2022 22:17

Angel delight. I'd make a bowl full that was meant to feed four and eat the lot.

HPFA · 02/01/2022 22:19

At primary school rhubarb pie was a regular dessert. Half the kids refused to eat it so I always got a massive portion.

Still love rhubarb.

Rosebel · 02/01/2022 22:20

@Kingsruby

Sara Lee double chocolate gateau
This was my favourite "special " pudding growing up. Nothing else had ever come close.
Inastatus · 02/01/2022 22:20

My mum used to buy ‘Rise and Shine’ which was a powdered concentrated orange juice in a packet that you mixed with water. Also Smash potato.

All if these!

Also tinned ham, I think it was Royal Oak in like an oval tin? We used to have that for Sunday lunch

samsmum2 · 02/01/2022 22:22

Mcvities Royal Scot biscuits - delicious! Sadly discontinued.

RosewoodBox · 02/01/2022 22:22

Viennetta, Bernard Matthews cheese hamwiches, Spira bars, chicken and mushroom Pot Noodles and Supermousse (mint with the choc on top!) are my favourite memories from days gone by 😃

@pastypirate

Never had all this at the vegetarian hippy school. Only burgers made out of sosmix which I think is also gone 😢
I came on to say sosmix! I practically lived off the stuff for years, that weird gritty stuff that went bright pink when you added water. Dirt cheap too. There is one place left you can still buy the original stuff on the internet but they charge such a ridiculous price for delivery I didn’t bother.

Does anyone remember peperami cheesy? Like a peperami but made of cheese. Amazing.

stupiduser · 02/01/2022 22:24

@Hillbillyhotel we had sausage plait at school with tomato soup as the gravy, it was amazing and I think I will make it for tea soon!

For a couple of years I went to a vegan Seventh Day Adventist school, I hated the tofu burgers and sausages so I took a packed lunch and bought soup, which was from a packet and not stirred properly.
RestingMurderousFace · 02/01/2022 22:25

Chicken flavoured Supernoodles with sweetcorn and grated cheese on top. It remains my mother's finest creation.

Packet Minestrone soup with two slices of white bread and a scrape of marge, cut into triangles. My granny used to make it for me at lunchtime when I was off school. We used to eat it while watching The Sullivans.

I could weep with the nostalgia of it.

stupiduser · 02/01/2022 22:25

@KohlaParasaurus Iceland sell macaroni cheese pasties. My teen DD tells me they are delicious

Laiste · 02/01/2022 22:25

MapleMay11 · 02/01/2022 22:28

@KurtWilde

Toast toppers Sandwich spread Findus crispy pancakes Potato puffs Piglets Nutty bar Sara Lee double chocolate gateaux Romantica (anyone remember that?)
I loved Romantica! I'd forgotten about piglets - loved those too. Texan bars Rancheros - still available on Amazon, DH recently found me a box
Snugglepumpkin · 02/01/2022 22:28

Polony.

Not whatever it's properly supposed to be that you might get in a fancy shop, but the bright pink stuff in a plastic wrapper you used to be able to buy in the supermarket.
I'm sure whatever it's made out of is horrific but my memory is of eating sunshine.

For reasons I don't understand if school ever did a day trip (which they seemed to do a lot of) in my packed lunch I would find an entire Polony Sausage & I'd eat the lot.

Nobody seems to do them any more.
