At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Those bags of 10 tiny cheese and tomato pizzas from the freezer section of kiwi save.

My mum was so skint when we were young, these were a proper treat for us.

Heinz tinned sausages and spaghetti. I first had it when on a caravan holiday with my Nan and cousins as a very young child - I apparently liked it so much that she started keeping a tin in the cupboard to give me as a snack when I visited after school, even as a teenager. I've actually been craving a tin during this pregnancy but can't quite bring myself to buy it, I think it would bring me to tears (my lovely Nan died just over 2 years ago).

Heinz Bean Pizza (www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailystar.co.uk/real-life/brits-beg-heinzs-baked-beans-23440065.amp) and their bagel bites.

Mississippi Mud Pie that used to be some sort of
‘American dreams’ pudding thing.

Good times.

Cheese and mash potatoe pie served at school.
Was simply delicious 😋

JohnStonesMissus · 02/01/2022 22:31

I've said this before but Birds chocolate crunch pudding, you basically put hot water on to the chocolate powder and then add the crunchy topping, it was bliss, they did a toffee banana flavour too I think..

nosyboot · 02/01/2022 22:31

Couldn't stand Spam but I loved another kind of tinned pork that came in a triangular tin. Pek?

Giveaschitt · 02/01/2022 22:32

Some sort of chocolate granules that Iceland used to sell - you culd mix with milk to make hot chocolate or milkshakes, but we used to have them sprinkled on to ice cream!

Bimblybomeyelash · 02/01/2022 22:32

My eldest has reported that he very much loves the cheese puffs that he has at school. Much googling from me has determined that they are probably puff pastry with a mashed potato and cheese filling.

polkadotpjs · 02/01/2022 22:32

M and s baked potato flavoured crisps

Octopus37 · 02/01/2022 22:33

I remember the Sara Lee Apple Danish and Vanilla Danish bars.

Does anyone remember when Starbucks used to do a Chocolate Cheesecake? It had a chocolate base and chocolate chips mixed in with the chocolate cheesecake part and chocolate fondant on the top. It was around in the early 00s, keep thinking not long ago but must be getting on for 20 years ago.

Also Batchelors Tandoori packet rice, used to eat loads of that as a teenager.

Stuffed pork roll? Tinned pork loin?
Snowisfalling33 · 02/01/2022 22:37

Chocolate pudding with mint custard and Manchester tart, both school dinner staples in the late 70's and early 80's.

Also, slightly later Birds hot crunch pudding. I swear I lived off this as a student!

PAFMO · 02/01/2022 22:37

My Mum worked for Sara Lee so we had a freezer full of the gateaux and apple Danishes.

Was it bacon grill?
Snowisfalling33 · 02/01/2022 22:38

@Smokeahontas

Baked Beans pizza! No one else ever remembers this :(
Oh yes I do! Another student food.
KurtWilde · 02/01/2022 22:38

@Snugglepumpkin I'd forgotten about polony! We used to have polony and brown sauce sandwiches.

HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 22:39

Octopus37, I remember that Starbucks cheesecake! Think they had a blueberry one, too, that was also totally yummy!
Imagine getting nice cake in Starbucks, nowadays...

LAHybridrc · 02/01/2022 22:39

Morrisons still sell polony in a plastic sausage shaped wrapper!

SammyScrounge · 02/01/2022 22:41

Angel Delight

TitsInAbsentia · 02/01/2022 22:41

piglets! I'd forgotten about those...but I hadn't forgotten about the football crazy snacks.
Nutty bar is the one no-one else seems to remember so glad to see it get a mention.
I also remember a lovely ice lolly, shandy flavour, merlin maybe?

But basically a lot of my childhood was purchased from Bejams so...long plastic bags of cheese and tomato pizza and supermousse!

mogkat · 02/01/2022 22:42

I remember those frozen mousses! I used to love the chocolate ones and they had a little cardboard lid on them Grin

I also used to love the original Sunny D - when it first came out and was the most artificial neon orange sugar filled E number treat going.

HelloBunny · 02/01/2022 22:44

M&S used to do these peach & passion fruit (I think) mousse desserts (either fresh or frozen, not sure). They were cylinder-shaped with soft sponge on either end. I loved them...
Looking back, seems like cake has always been my favourite food.

Pirrip1 · 02/01/2022 22:45

Bright orange processed cheese slices - I think they now have to be marketed as “cheese flavoured slices” due to the lack of actual cheese Grin

I would add minced beef Findus Crispy Pancakes but I bought some randomly for nostalgia purposes recently and they were a bit rubbish.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 02/01/2022 22:46

Sara Lee pecan nut pie ….yum

Roses1221 · 02/01/2022 22:46
