To hate DH’s Jools Holland NYE

DH insists on having bloody Jools Holland on every NYE. I never was a fan of him of his shows but we actually met him a few years back and he was rude as fuck which turned me off him completely.

We only have one telly. DH insists we must watch Jools Holland every NYE. I fell asleep last night as the show is so bloody boring! Woke up just in time to watch the fireworks outside and now I’ve realised I missed the London display that would have been on one of the other channels!!

AIBU? (Lighthearted - I’m aware it’s not a massive deal before I get jumped on)

It’s a proper yawn fest. Same old faces, same old boring shite. It used to have lots of new artists, exciting new music. Now it’s just all his old mates

Boofay · 01/01/2022 08:42

And it's filmed in June or July ffs. Why watches a pre-recorded nye show? I've stopped watching it since I found that out.

I was asleep for new year. Best thing imo!

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 01/01/2022 08:43

It's totally boring! NYE telly is always dreadful. BBC1s effort last night was also rubbish IMO.

SpindleSpangle · 01/01/2022 08:44

It’s particularly awful.

We channel hopped and watched the fireworks outside my bedroom window from a local display in the end, then the end of the London stuff. It was all a bit ‘meh’ on the TV generally considering NYE is supposedly such a bit deal.

GladysTheOstrich · 01/01/2022 08:59

Enjoy, OP!

He does at least have an interesting range of guests, unlike BBC who made it all about that one guy. I wouldn't have minded one or two songs by him but he became the focus of NYE. At least JH has different people and you might like some of them!

LibbyVonTrap · 01/01/2022 09:01

😂😂
Glad I’m not the only one who finds it a total bore fest

Sorry cross posted, who does the bbc make it all about?

I agree,

NYE is just not the same these days without Andy Stewart singing 'Donald where's your troosers?'

I don't know if it is this Government or Brexit but one of them must be to blame.

I do wonder where will it all end? Sad

Happy New Year Everyone

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/01/2022 09:04

Does he still spend ages walking around just bellowing 'HOOTENANNY'? I always found that quite embarrassing.

Not June or July but 15 December. Ed Sherran gave that away.

I think it's terrible and yet it's the best thing on for New Years.

UnsuitableHat · 01/01/2022 09:05

Nah I don’t like it. Even the countdown gets on my nerves.

LanaDelBoy · 01/01/2022 09:05

We have a saying in our house.
"Not the Hootenanny, never the Hootenanny!"

MyOtherProfile · 01/01/2022 09:07

@LibbyVonTrap well the half hour or so we watched was all about the guy from Years and Years. Don't know his name. It was basically a Y and y gig with a couple of friends.

FitAt50 · 01/01/2022 09:09

BBC One was also appalling last night and was just Olly Alexander singing in a dress for an hour. Even Kylie Minogue and the Drag Race Queens couldn't make it any better.

SnoopyLights · 01/01/2022 09:09

All the NYE programming was awful last night.

We weren't having a wild night. One just recovering from COVID, one just tested positive, and one trying to avoid it at all costs. It was a fairly quiet night playing a few of the new Christmas board games with a multipack of crisps, and the dog wedged under the sofa because of the fireworks and the COVID sufferer snoring.

So something decent on TV would have been appreciated, especially for the midnight bit. Instead we got that Years and Years bloke, who I just can't watch, Jules Holland and his usual shit (Suggs and Lulu, because nothing says 2022 like a song from 1964) and the local news update (all COVID and violent crime with a tiny countdown clock in the corner) and then some disappointing fireworks to a soundtrack by the London Underground arrivals announcer and an Abba tribute choir.

Punfreeusername · 01/01/2022 09:10

It's cringeworthy, just bloody awful contrived ego stroking garbage.

Well past its sell by date as well. If he wants to show off and have a sing song with his mates, do it in private.

Also, Jim Muir who is always there gurning away, is the least funny comedian there has ever been.

Vegetalienne · 01/01/2022 09:11

Tell your husband you want to watch something else or get a second tv. My friend reckons multiple TVs (and bathrooms) are key to happy relationships. 😬 😂

Looubylou · 01/01/2022 09:11

I'd rather go to bed and I did.I stopped going out at NewYear due to the fireworks, which start early, frightening my, now late, dog. This year I even slept through the estate fireworks.

Tayegete · 01/01/2022 09:12

We always watch as it has the countdown, last night was awful though. Social distancing completely ruined any atmosphere. The interviews with Ed Sheehan and Vic Reeves awkwardly leaning against the piano were cringe.

SushiGo · 01/01/2022 09:13

The last few years BBC1 have picked one band and have them do a gig.

This one from years & years was much better than the last time we watched telly on NYE - which was a Robbie Williams gig on BBC1 a few years back - at least Olly Alexander can sing and it was mostly current music plus a few older tracks. We really enjoyed it.

I am also extremely bored of Jools Holland.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/01/2022 09:17

it depends who is on,
i really enjoyed Future Islands, some years ago,
i was flicking between the channels and gave up last night - but some years it is good

RuthW · 01/01/2022 09:18

I really enjoyed BBC with Years and Years. Much better than previous years.

It was worse. He was shouting "Hootenannyum" because Vic Reeves said something about Ancient Rome and they seemed to find it funny.
