To hate DH’s Jools Holland NYE

LibbyVonTrap · 01/01/2022 08:30

DH insists on having bloody Jools Holland on every NYE. I never was a fan of him of his shows but we actually met him a few years back and he was rude as fuck which turned me off him completely.

We only have one telly. DH insists we must watch Jools Holland every NYE. I fell asleep last night as the show is so bloody boring! Woke up just in time to watch the fireworks outside and now I’ve realised I missed the London display that would have been on one of the other channels!!

AIBU? (Lighthearted - I’m aware it’s not a massive deal before I get jumped on)

He gives me the creeps.
Bring back Andy Stewart.

'Not sure why you’re pretending they’re little stumps.'

Yes sorry you're right I am exaggerating they aren't stumps just full of gaps. A brace would help. Seems odd to have such an ott look with dyed hair etc yet not even try the most basics of orthodontistry .

Vegetalienne · 01/01/2022 18:24

I’m not an Olly fan, I don’t like his music or voice but there’s no need to comment on his looks negatively.

I thought he was great in Its A Sin, just a shame he buys into the TWAW ideology according to interviews I’ve read.

logsonlogsoff · 01/01/2022 18:25

DP was the same till a mate who works in telly said it’s filmed in July…

Why should he have a brace? His teeth are perfectly healthy.

Are you really that vain? I hope you yourself look perfect, or are you deflecting your own insecurities about your own looks onto another.

Wtf are you on about? He’s got straight, clean, healthy, natural teeth. You’ve obviously been around too much fakery.
DH used to want to watch Jools at NYE and I was indifferent to it. This year we channel flicked - and kept going. Olly Alexander is a good singer, but I find that Pudding Bowl Haircut of his too distracting.

Back in the 80's, there was a sketch show in Scotland called Scotch & Wry, by a comedian called Rikki Fulton. He did a Hogmanay special every year, and I still miss them. I'd much rather have comedy than music.
I grew up watching scotch and wry. Can still remember some of the sketches now. Loved it.

Reverend I M Jolly - absolutely brilliant Grin

I loved BBC! Olly Alexander was great, do wonder what the older licence paying viewers made of all the LGTB slant though. I loved it I have to say!
I’m an older licence paying viewer (57, so nly ancient but even so…). I loved him. Remember the 80s when all the activism depicted in Its a Sin happened, is 30-40 years ago. Young people didn’t invent LGBT+…
SueSaid · 01/01/2022 18:36

I'm not 'vain' but I've had a brace as have our dc. It is very common nowadays and even normal y'know. Nothing to do with being vain.

As I said he has dyed hair, very flamboyant outfits he clearly pays a great deal of attention on his appearance. Just seems odd not to have his teeth sorted imo, that is all.

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/01/2022 18:41

I can't be doing with him, I had a massive rant to OH the other night about how he makes my teeth itch, he's an adequate muscian and a slimey rude creep!

He goes around shoving folk out the way, sitting on folk, to cosy up to someone he's trying to make out is his bestie when these days, most of them absolutely are not, bellowing HOOTENANNY randomly and blethering on.

Even with the genuine celebs he is actually friends with, his simpering adoring pawing of them for the camera is cringetastic and vomit-inducing. It's all 'look at meeeeeee HOOTENANNY... im friends with famous people... HOOTENANNY... aren't I fabulous...'

Ugh. Fuck off Jools.

I'm the same age! It's funny, my comment about older people, I was sort of thinking my parents age, in their 80's, mine would have been appalled! It's A Sin was absolutely brilliant yes.

Because there isn’t anything to sort, you clearly are extremely vain if you think perfectly healthy, straight teeth are a problem.

I was replying to the comment below.

Aderyn21

The BBC seem to have forgotten that it's the mums and dads paying the tv licence and we'd quite like some decent telly that isn't aimed at teenagers.

No you weren’t. @Aderyn21’S comment is after yours quoted. I checked.

Possibly fair…my parents wouldn’t have understood what was going on maybe. The extreme elderly licence payers are hardly a majority though…
AnyFucker · 01/01/2022 19:16

little stumps aren't a good look are they

Jesus. There is nothing wrong with his teeth. I prefer to see natural than fake.

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 19:43

Leave Olly's teeth alone!!

SueSaid · 01/01/2022 19:49

'prefer to see natural than fake.'

What, like his natural hair?

Look it's fine, each to their own, I'd no idea folk would be so very outraged by my daring to suggest he needs to see an orthodontist.

somewhereoverthechipshop · 01/01/2022 19:56

@JaniieJones

'Olly Alexander is a good singer, but I find that Pudding Bowl Haircut of his too distracting.'

He is average and not good enough to have carried the whole show, though the Pet Shop Boys improved things massively. His little peggy teeth though, why doesn't one of his friends tell him he desperately needs veneers?!

What a horrible vacuous comment, says more about you than it does about him.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/01/2022 19:56

i like olly alexander but got home in time for the bells so missed him Sad

iklboo · 01/01/2022 20:34

He doesn't need to see an orthodontist. You just think he should to align with your idea of what's 'acceptable'.

SirChenjins · 01/01/2022 20:40

Acceptable as in ‘fake looking’. Good for Olly for not succumbing to such nonsense.

Valeriekat · 02/01/2022 09:22

...yes he needs aligners!

SirChenjins · 02/01/2022 09:33

No, he really doesn’t.

inappropriateraspberry · 02/01/2022 10:01

I'm always surprised that ITV dint do more for NYE. You'd think Ant and Dec would be itching for a slice of it!
